Could you guys do a short video on root graphing bald cypress ? I can find other videos about it but not sure if it’s the same on bald cypress. Thanks !
Hi Lee - that's a great topic and we are always looking for ideas for things people want to see. We will absolutely put that on our list of things to cover. It will have to wait a bit because the window for us to work on roots has passed. But, keep an eye on our feed and it will come up as soon as we can. Thanks for the suggestion.
I like that idea. We are always looking for video topics. We will try to cover root grafting over the winter and thread grafting branches later in the season.
Have you ever worked with Bald Cypress saplings? I live in PA no yamadori BC here. I bought 5 saplings from a bonsai place in NJ . Keeping in pots purchased in till spring to repot in a forest. Any advice you could give will be appreciated
Penny - We do actually grow bald cypress from sapling stage in our grow fields here at the nursery. In the case of working with young bald cypress, I either grow them out until they develop character and trunk girth or they are good for root grafting and thread grafting. I have pretty high expectations of my bald cypress here in Louisiana and the tree has to have some kind of character and size before I begin training. Honestly if I only had access to saplings like in your case, I would plant them in the ground and let them grow for a number of years. A forest with smaller slender trees would have to be in a very great number to look impressive with bald cypress. 31 - 53 is a good start for sapling stage for a dense forest.
@@pennyszpindor3123 Well at that price it makes sense to keep your purchase limited. We can ship trees to NJ. Shipping cost can be expensive, but we could set you up with a starter BC for a much better value proposition.
Any news on this tree, can't wait to see the progress of it.
When will you do an update on your bald cypress?
