I have never had a podcast make me tear up so much. I was 16 when this show came out, an I loved it dearly. The cast was so amazing, and I would really love it being released for streaming... or even as a box set. The networks want to capitalize on Nostalgia, they should listen to the fans!

Completely agree. It brings us joy to serve our fellow 90s Nick fans in the the most heartfelt ways possible through our content.
It is in my humblest opinion that if Nickelodeon truly wanted to honor its legacy, it would release more of its left behind shows (i.e. Roundhouse, Welcome Freshmen, etc.) on streaming platforms (or even just DVD/Blu-Ray), rather than focusing 99% of its attention of SpongeBob and its various current spin-offs.
Perhaps if enough of us fans can band together, David can Beat Goliath one day. *crosses fingers*

I was 12 when Roundhouse first aired, and I was exactly one of the kids that Julene talked about. I didn't feel loved or even noticed by my family, I didn't have many/any friends, I didn't fit in with anyone, and I didn't want to be alive. Roundhouse, for 30 minutes a week, made me feel like I was seen, was valid, had friends, and like everything somehow might be okay. Thank you all for everything. I'm still here today at least partly because of you all.

I always said this show was never appreciated enough, not just by Nickelodeon/Viacom, but people who remember 90s Nick. This was Nick's first ORIGINAL sketch comedy, YCDTOT was not originally made by Nick. It pretty much laid the ground work for All That and how Nick does comedy shows. This show wasn't even mentioned in the recent "Orange Years" Documentary and that is criminal. Honestly, I hope someone makes a Documentary about this show, because I think it deserves to be looked at more.

I can't believe I missed this. I search Roundhouse so often on TH-cam. I just want to say that this show is so underrated. The caliber of talent they were able to procure is unmatched. Comedy, song, dance...just everything flawless. Remembering Dominic still makes my heart ache to this day. I didn't know him, of course, but I just loved him. There was something about him that made you feel, even just as a viewer, somehow close to him. I've never seen a better dancer. I loved the show and I'm still waiting for it to come out on DVD LOL

Shawn Daywalt felt like my older sister...
I was 8/9 when I started watching the first season...and my dad had cancer and I spent a lot of time in hospital. But Saturday was MY day...and she made me feel like I could still be cool while being a "mom"-type of person at a young age. I've been trying to find her for almost 30 years to thank her.🥺💗 This show made me so happy. I remember being SO excited and I never forgot that theme song. These people were my family. I haven't found that, in a show, ever again. It was magic to my lil soul.💌 Thank you. All of you. 🥺💕🤟🏻

Shawn Daywalt is rather hard to track down, but we are very grateful all of our guests have congregated to celebrate Roundhouse once more 😌
If you haven’t seen Ep. 43 of our podcast (“Roundhouse: Feminism”), I highly recommend it for fans to watch as a follow-up to this reunion, since many other cast members (some not present here), join us to reminisce some more there 😊

I can't believe how many song lyrics I still remember! I was a bit obsessed with this show, and would not only record every episode on tape, but then would use my boom box to record the songs, and then "perform" them in my swing set 🤣
I miss those days!! I would also make props out of cardboard, especially the TVs. The Cardboardvox!!! And I memorized the dance routine at the end of the show for seasons 1 and 2. This show is magical.

Devastated that I found this so long after it happened. This show was everything to me when it aired, and I still watch the old episodes I recorded on VHS as a kid sometimes. I used to dream I could grow up to be on it (no concept of time and that it would never have been on as long as that would have taken!) so finding this makes me so happy. I was doing a Roundhouse search and I came across this podcast episode so forgive me for this late comment.
I think Roundhouse isn’t as fondly remembered by those born in the late 80s (like myself) and early 90s is that many of the themes/references went over our heads. I went back and watched a few episodes and the themes of the environment, fears, independence, as well as the references of NKOTB, beauty pageants, MC Hammer probably went over my 5-7 year old head. I get them now but back then, I liked the show because it was fast paced and they were having fun, so I was having fun watching it. The show was geared more towards tweens and teens.
Having said that, Roundhouse is definitely an underrated Nick show that doesn’t get enough credit for paving the way for All That, Wild and Crazy Kids, and other Nick shows that are remembered fondly.

Oh that's alright. People are always finding us and commenting on some of our earlier episodes. No worries at all. Happy that you found us and that you enjoyed the episode.
I agree with you about the target age range. The show absolutely doesn't get the amount of love it deserves! Truly a rebel within the Nickelodeon library.

A true testament to their talent. Compare that to many TH-camrs of today using at least five jump-cuts for a sentence to sound perfect and it’ll hit you how the change of production quality and standards over the past three decades has warped. The Roundhouse gang are peak performers, through and through.

This show, Roundhouse, was an original show of Nick's SNICK, along with Are you Afraid of the Dark?; Clarissa Explains it All; and The Ren & Stimpy Show. I watched Roundhouse all seasons 1-4 on "Snick" when I was a kid in the 90's. Talk about good memories: You Can't Do That on TV, Mr. Wizard's World, Special Delivery, Out of Control, Kids' Court, Eureeka's Castle, Face, The Littl' Bits, NIck Jr. Storytime (Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics), Wild & Crazy Kids, Family Double Dare, Fifteen, Welcome Freshmen, Clarissa Explains It All, Get the Picture, Doug, What Would You Do?, Nick Arcade, the still-long running Nick News, Nickelodeon Wild Side Show, Roundhouse, Salute Your Shorts, GUTS, Beyond Belief!!, Weinerville, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Rocko, Pete & Pete, the remake of The Tomorrow People, Hey Dude, Alex Mack, My Brother and Me, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, Sharon, Lois & Bram's Elephant Show, Allegra's Window, Gullah Gullah Island, The World of David the Gnome, U to U, Bing!: The Sound of Something New, Global GUTS, and Ren and Stimpy, reruns of the B&W Dennis the Menace TV show, Lassie, Flipper, Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, Looney Tunes on Nickelodeon, Yogi Bear, Bullwinkle, Underdog, Muppet Babies, The Muppet Show, The Alvin Show, Beetlejuice, Gumby Adventures, The Adventures of Tintin, the 80's/90's Alvin and the Chipmunks, the 90s version of Land of the Lost, and Tiny Toon Adventures, and a cartoon packaging show called Cartoon Kablooey, which was originalish, and showed a couple of syndie package of the 1060's Paramount and Columbia-produced UPA theatrical cartoon shorts. Pre-Alex Mack, Pre-Space Cases, Pre-Shelby Woo, Pre-Kenan and Kel, Pre-KaBlam!, Pre-Hey Arnold!, Pre-The Angry Beavers, Pre-Cousin Skeeter, Pre-Wild Thornberrys, Pre-Rocket Power, Pre-Eddie McDowd, Pre-Fairly Oddparents, Pre-Brothers Garcia, Pre-Taina, Pre-Nick Cannon Show, Pre-Romeo!, and Pre-Spongebob.
To those that don't know, cast member Dominick Lucero died in July 1994 of Lymphatic cancer. Looking at his small body of work he left behind, we were robbed of yet another talented performer too soon. Many of the cast members were in a movie called "Newsies" which is a good representation of these peoples talent as dancers and all around performers. Crystal Lewis went on to demonstrate her very powerful voice on religious television as a singer. As far as I know David Crane who played "the father" also directed many episodes and continued in this direction. The show was on the original SNICK lineup on Nickelodeon from August 15, 1992 to 1994 and continued airing in reruns on the network through the end of 1995.
Roundhouse was basically a Nickelodeon version of In Living Color for teens. It aimed to be SNL but never made it. However, it was much better than its replacement, the lame All That.

This was AMAZING to see, thank you so much!!! I was 11 when Roundhouse started and I was absolutely obsessed with it. I still look it up every so often and it amazes me that 30 years later I still use some random quotes from it, still remember most of the song lyrics, and still can quote most of the dialog from every episode. I had most of the shows taped and watched them to no end. I was convinced I was gonna marry Ivan Dudynsky when I grew up (and later David Nicoll) 😂. There's a street near my old house called Clarner St, and to this day I want to send a picture of it to David Sidoni and tell him that Dumb Kid maybe wasn't so dumb after all (he played "clarner" in scrabble in an episode and says "clarner: one who clarns" as his definition 😂). I have so many incredible memories of this show and I am so glad to have found this and to know there are still people out there who grew up with it and admired it as much as I did and still enjoy it as much as I still do.

I loved Roundhouse so much... still do. I bought bootleg dvds from a random site a long time ago just so I could rip it and watch it anytime ... this show meant so much to me as a kid. What a talented bunch of people! Rita is such a great mom of the show... she really encourages everyone's talent and contribution. Everyone seems like you thought they would be except for maybe David Nicoll (which is a great surprise he's like a rapper, parkourist, singer with a Southern twang lol) and Shawn Munoz seems like a great guy. He and Julene bring so much peace and sweetness to the convo.
Speaking of Julene, did anyone else miss this? Her son's father is Dominic or is she saying it's someone named Dominic Lucero (and not Roundhouse's Dominic). 🤔

I think it's safe to say Roundhouse was my favorite show on the SNICK line up . Which 1st aired on 8/15/92 Nickelodeon. Thanks to the VCR, i have every episode recorded on VHS tapes. I still watch them even tho there 30 years old , they still play & are in good condition, color, clear picture & audio. I even still have the Roundhouse poster that came in a box of Honeycomb cereal & still have the box it came in (1994) is the date on that. Yes, there was no other show like it, and i doubt there ever will be one quite like Roundhouse! I would put them on my You Tube channel, but there was another YT channel that also had every episodes of Roundhouse on it & was taken down due to copyrights. So there wasn't much of a point to do that if it would just be taken down by YT. Loved all the great memories this podcast has brought back, Thanks 4 uploading this guys!❤

That is so cool that you still have them all on VHS. I'd love to get better quality videos than what I currently have. But alas, TH-cam and the copyright holders must be tyrants. That's also awesome that you have the Honeycombs poster! There truly was never a show like Roundhouse before or since. I'm happy you enjoyed the episode. You should check out our other Roundhouse episode covering the feminism episode with the cast from the show. Thank you so much for sharing.

B_Viacom of Viacom International took down that YT channel with all the Roundhouse episodes on it, as well as The Secret World of Alex Mack ...all were taken down by Viacom. I was OBSESSED with both "Roundhouse" and the New Mickey Mouse Club over on the Disney Channel.

I have a theory that maybe this didn’t hit and stay as long because the audience it was really for was on the cusp of the generational shift. Not as much cemented for what that generational pop culture models were yet. It seems the older teens had it more locked down with MTV in its model which hadn’t yet started talking earnestly about feelings except as represented by artistic gloss and “entertainment news”, and the little kids had older models that were just starting to shift to expressing emotional intelligence in a new way. This show had the hyperactivity and questioning the model from our family that as a tween at the time hit me so so hard and said just what I needed to hear. However the format wasn’t as familiar for the rest of the viewing audience and it wasn’t aping some time tested model and the topics were too mature for the young kids. Watching it now reminds me of Rent, and that didn’t officially premiere until 1996.
As a cusp kid I think these little bubbles of things that felt genuinely created for us and not just another thing for us to consume felt extra special and rare.
Thank you for making it, and thanks for this episode to explore!!

    • @SplatAttackPodcast

Nickelodeon/Paramount+/Viacom doesn't have it in their library, and despite our numerous attempts as a podcast to urge them to add it to their lineup of streaming content, their companies' representatives give us an "It's a rights issue" vague answer that really does nothing to address the problem.
Fans will need to create a harmonious uproar to put pressure on them if we expect our desires to be fulfilled. Until then, it's up to the fans to circulate VHS tapes and keep the show alive.
