Northern Grandma(since long past) and still my dear old mum had/have this favoured descriptor for my footwear, given I am a devotee of the covered ankle. Makes me want a Clodbuster from Hamleys.
I read Horla one night when I was very young, whilst camping, and feeling feverish.. It stayed with me for a very, very long time.. These are Gems. Perfectly read too..
I guess, if that's what general anxiety disorder is. Anxiety itself is normal and mundane, there's always been a word for it. Seems like I shouldn't have to explain this.
"The parents have been to see me...they wept"! **insert maniacal evil laugh** My gosh the voice acting is amazing and the character is just beautifully diabolical in all the wrong-right ways. The parents weeping and strawberry comment literally made me scoff out loud at this psycho! Impeccable writing! Well done HB & Ian! 😌👏
Bless you Horrorbabble, such a treat, the little pleasures of life always included(at least for me), great literature and music...needless to say listening to tales retold by you are both, thank you!!!🙏👏📖🎷😎
"Omg that ghost was so scary that I now have to marry a stranger I barely respect just so I never have to be alone again!" "What did the very scary ghost do to you?" "He took a nap in my chair." "..."
Horror does not need be full of unnecessary blood/gore to give you a chill, it fills you with something closer to disgust. There is nothing poetic about it, writers could learn alot from these older, well written stories. So much trash out there these days..
I agree and that's why I love this channel so much. There's something about the somewhat archaic language and powers of description that can make a single awful implication more frightening than a buzzing chainsaw and limbs flopping onto the the floor - no disrespect intended to Leatherface of course. Still the old horror babble is more frightening. It flat-out killed Warren.
Bite size works so well. Thank you. Short, sharp and on the mark. I seek your site for entertainment, information and your calming voice. “Nothing more soothing than a good horror from Bite size”. Always feel as if I just received a gift of escape. 🌟🤗
You mix Diary of a Madman with the Horla, you can resurrect Vincent Price. Beware: If you perform this ritual, you have to watch the movie. Otherwise, a curse may fall upon you.
Yet again fantastic collection Ian, how about a Lord Dunsaney tale maybe Two bottles of relish, that’s if it’s in the public domain, anyway as always first class!!!
For a moment I kept sight of the glow of his lantern, and heard the rustle of the wire as he laid it down after him; but the glow soon disappeared abruptly, as if a turn in the stone staircase had been encountered, and the sound died away almost as quickly. I was alone, yet bound to the unknown depths by those magic strands whose insulated surface lay green beneath the struggling beams of that waning crescent moon. Keep up the good work fella and stay safe.
dude i am in loveeee with this guy assuming an intruder is his friend. "I could not see the top of my friends head" i wanna call all unknown horrors friend
dude i just read a disry horror and the guy was constantly clarifying that he was not scared unless something scary happened and did not assume anything wacky.... think he was also like day 27: IM FREE day 28: curse this horrible place
would be cool if they were same author i dont think so tho but i love that thats a particular writing style sorry i just woke up im reminding myself for later
Did anyone else feel bad when the guy from the first story killed the poor bird? Like its one thing to kill a man the done you or another wrong but a poor bird that just sings its little heart out and keeps you company...that just is not cool. But still a story can cause such a empathetic part and make you feel sorry for the bird.
Remembering hearing 'The Hand' on the CBS Radio Mystery Theater one fateful ( then sleepless ) night. I've loved De Maupassant ever since. Every bit as talented, melancholy as Poe... #weird70sKid
Most people would say hello and introduce themselves. Not jump up and piss their pants when a woman walks in the room behind them.Could’ve been anyone for all he knows. The story doesn’t make sense at times
A wonderful collection! All were fabulous, but The Terror was my favourite. You have an uncanny ability to sound very natural- like you are simply speaking and not at all as though you are reading- it makes for a marvellously immerse experience! Thanks again for all the work you two put into this!
Hmmm.....sorry to disagree. . His voice is monotonous and flat most of the time . Occasionally he throws in a rather unconvincing attempt at sounding " dramatic " . It's bearable in short bursts but an hour of it is impossible to endure. I can only assume you have never heard similar readings by someone with even minimal theatrical experience ?
@@2msvalkyrie529 Don’t apologize for disagreeing. It’s personal preferences or tastes. I have heard many readings and I happen to enjoy HB’s very much. If you don’t, that’s fine. The wonderful thing about the internet is that it is *full* of options, so I am sure you will find something you enjoy and maybe put a smile on your face. I hope you find it.
Clodhoppers 47:21 my god I haven't heard boots called that in decades. Yes, I'm quite old.
Excellent compendium, Ian.

Alright, that first story in particular was really, really disturbing...
Wonderfully read, as always.
.
Agreed. So disturbing that I have to remember to never listen to that one again.
Your transition on voices is superb. Out of all the horror stories I listen to, the old ones written are the best.
""The old ones written""spare us.
So the story "The Terror" is someone describing anxiety before it became truly discovered.
I guess, if that's what general anxiety disorder is. Anxiety itself is normal and mundane, there's always been a word for it. Seems like I shouldn't have to explain this.
@@CJM-rg5rt you're right. No one asked you to explain anything.
Masterfully done Ian. You truly give the words life, and give the soul a reprive from everyday troubles!!!

All his stories are disturbing 😳 😐. Great addition to channel 👏. Thanks.
Terrific work, as usual! 🐙🔥🙌
I'm excited for this, must stay awake! It's still a compliment if I can't.
You are absolutely right, the short stories of De Maupassant are very good. I reckon them among the best ever written. They are timeless....!
These are great! The Madman’s Diary😹. “Here is something u can’t understand- how I could just kill a man!”- B Real
Kudos for quoting the original.
Cypress Hill!! Back in the daaaayyy
One of my all time favorite writers. I see you included "The Devil"....such a strange, unsettling and darkly humorous story 😳
Good stories and narration. Good ole' Guy wrote some good stories.
That first story...quite chilling. Very fitting for this channel!
Thanks!

Yes, many writers today think gore and violence is an adequate substitute for writing ability.

Wow, Ian. Awesome

And also to add that if anyone remember the scene in Roger Rabbit where the judge kills that poor shoe. That still gets me everytime. Hmm

The first story... your voice acting is superb 👌... Also made me squirm a tad like the first time I heard you swear lol 😆 ❤

Guy de Maupassant was an excellent story teller. Some of his tales are Shakespearian , universal, and terrible.
