What a fabulous demonstration of a magnificent organ, Paul. The voicing is not at all what you might expect to find in a 1960s instrument in Germany (or England) and I love the 'symphonic' characteristics of this awesome Walcker instrument. Congratulations on such excellent videography (audio quality and video editing) which, in addition to your very fine playing, made for a fascinating upload. Bravo!

There was an LP on the Pelca label offering a narrated demonstration of this organ, called "Klinget Wohl, ihr Pfeifen all'!" It was a formative influence in my youth. So the sounds of this organ were very much an inspiration to me.

Keine Frage: Die Vorstellung war großartig. Vielen Dank, Paul!
Aber ich kann nicht verstehen, was man an diesen neobarocken Schundinstrumenten mit quintlastigen Intonationen ohne Grundton, schreienden Mixturen und hohlen Klängen findet. Die Gemeinde ist führungslos, die Orgel schreit meistens nur und alles, was das Herz für Gott berühren könnte, wurde vehement abgelehnt. Bei diesen orgelbewegten Großorgeln kann man zumindest noch das 8'-Register wechseln. Bei kleineren Instrumenten aus dieser Zeit klingt dann oft alles gleich, weil man kaum Variationsmöglichkeiten hat. Noch dazu hat ja dieser „Neobarock“ nichts mit Barock zu tun. Schaue man mal die süddeutschen Barockinstrumente an: Viele 8'-Stimmen und nicht nur Schrei und schrill. Dieser Baustil ist reine, überkommene Ideologie.
@@anonymmuss7090 Ja, da hast du recht! Aaaaaber es ist, wie du schon sagt, ein Dokument dieser Zeit und der damaligen Bewegung - und manch moderne Literatur klingt auf diesen Orgeln richtig gut. Ob sie jetzt den „wahren Sinn einer Gemeindeorgel“ erfüllt ist wirklich fraglich, aber das war damals glaube ich auch nicht Hauptkriterium. 😀
@@PaulFey Lieber Paul, da hast du recht: Ea sind Dokumente der Zeit und nicht alles ist „unbrauchbar“, aber es gibt eben viele Beispiele, wo Orgeln aus dieser Zeit ihre Aufgabe nicht mehr erfüllen können. Interessanterweise habe ich vor kurzem ein Gutachten aus dieser Zeit gelesen, in der eine einmanualige romantische Steinmeyer-Orgel als „aus der Verfallszeit des Orgelbaus“ beschrieben wurde und diese aufgrund der fehlenden Aliquotregister ihre Aufgabe der Gemeindebegleitung nicht erfüllen könne 😂
@@anonymmuss7090 I can't understand everything that you have said, but I agree with you. Everything above 4' on this organ is really shrill and piercing, especially the mixtures. You are right that this is an idealized view of Baroque organs, not an actual representation of how they really were. Neo-baroque organs are still pretty common in the US. The organ I play on Sundays is a hybrid of digital stops and pipes, but the pipework is neo-baroque, and it has the same problem that the Walcker has. They cut down the Great IV-V Mixture to just IV ranks to cut down on some of the brightness, but it's still quite bright.
Absolutely superb. I can see by the looks on your face that you totally get emotionally into the piece. I have noticed this watching all the true greats that they throw themselves completely into the piece. I hope you know what I mean. If you watch for example, Pavarotti and the other greats, its the emotional placement that helps make a truly unique performance. Keep up the great work. Thanks.

That is one of the biggest Oboes I have ever heard! It actually works because it's the only 8' reed on the Schwellwerk. And you're right, the tremulant makes it sound more like an Oboe and less like a Trumpet.

That Oboe is louder and more full than the trumpet on the instrument I play. That said, this instrument is in a much larger space that needs that power.

Here's hoping you can record some appropriate pieces for this organ. This exposition was enjoyable. Demos rarely show how the ensemble holds together, tutti. So many organs sound less than wonderful, all in.
I was of a mind that some of the trumpet reeds could well do the classic music of Spain.

From all the youtube presentations of organs, I'm guessing it's not common in European churches to be heated, but doesn't the cold affect operation of the organs?
Haha, well that different from church to church. St Thomas in Leipzig is always heated for example - this church was not. The organ can deal with a cold, the problem which sparks the detuning is the temperature differences (when heating for example) which aren’t that good for the instruments 😀

Du hast die Orgel genau so vorgestellt, dass jeder zukünftige Organist vorab verstehen kann, wie die Orgel aufgebaut ist und klingt. Das ist eine tolle Arbeit!
Sag mal, das "Master-Crescendo", meinst du damit die Walze? Oder hast du die Walze nicht ausprobiert?

Herzlichen Dank! Ich habe meist ein Olympus-Aufnahmegerät im Kirchenraum liegen und mixe diesen Raumklang dann mit dem Kameraton 😀
Die Zungen toll dachte im ersten Moment das das Fagott und die Trompete horizontal im Inneren der orgel verbaut wurde ( oder das der winddruck hoch ist) weil sie hw Zungen sehr stark rüber kommen oder sind die vorne im Hauptwerk eingebaut?
Ich denke, dass sie relativ weit vorn im Hauptwerk stehen! Ich finde die Zungen auch sehr gelungen!!
OK, ich habe die Grimasse beim Scharfzimbel-Klang bemerkt! (Ich auch...) 😊

Ich habe _eine_ Orgel mit mechanischer Traktur zu Berkeley (CA: die einzige von einem heisigen Orgelbauer) gespielt, aber sie klang als ob Saint-Saëns die Gestaltung davon geschrieben hat: ein jedes Stück drauf klang fast wie _Fossiles._
