We were in La Rochelle last month. Most enjoyable seaside town. Never knew it was so large. A friends daughter works on Ile de Re during summer season and throughly enjoyed the island as well.
Congrats on finding more on your Grandfather's history pre-Chilli. Very happy for you and the kindness shown to you at the archives. And by the way, there are some good places to eat away from the touristy areas. But we had locals who knew where to go...and don't ask the name. LOL
