Hey guys just wanna say I just recieved my new arrma typhon from you guys and it's awesome. You guys are great with fast and free shipping and I've never had one bad experience with you guys. Keep up the great work and you definitely have my future business. Just wanted to say thanks.
I just got one of the 3S shorties yesterday, I do hope they are a bit less volatile than the last generation of LIHV's (I had 3 of 6 go bad even after caring for them fully by the book)
@@AMain_Hobbies I did and they replaced 2 but one was too old. sorry I wasnt trying to make that a complaint. For what its worth I dont know of a better battery and other brands sometimes fail too. This new battery was balanced perfectly when I got it and after its first use.
I just picked up a 2S 4100mah LIHV graphine plus battery and also a prodigy 680 charger. Im getting back into the hobby for the first time since the late 90's. What rate should I charge these at, and where might I find more info on the charger than the sparse instruction manual offers?
A 4.1Amp charge rate is your 1C charge rate for that particular battery. mah capacity / 1000 = 1C. ProTek states your battery can be charged at a maximum 10C charge rate, 41 Amps, but this will speed up the battery deterioration. I recommend charging at 1C for normal use, and when you are in a rush and time is limited, a 2C charge rate (about 8 Amps) will speed up the process. For that charger, we unfortunately do not have any other instructions or video, but we can help you with whatever you need to know! Shoot me an email: brettb@amain.com and we can answer all you questions. Thanks. -Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies Thanks for the info, that will get me started. A lot has changed in the hobby since I was last into it. 2000mah Sanyo NiCad cells were all the rage back then.
@@elcaminosunlimited The 680 should have most parameters for storage (STOR) pre-set and optimal. I believe all you need to input is mAh capacity, and and the charger should use a 1C rate to charge or discharge; which ever is needed. The individual cell end voltage (End Volt.) should be pre-set to 3.85V for LiPo; if not you will want to set that. Does that make sense? You will definitely need the balance lead plugged in as usual for LiPo. -Brett
Hi I have a question about LIHV to charge them at lipo mode can I use the same mah setting because the gens ace battery I have is a LIHV 5100mah and I want to charge it at lipo mode can I use the same mah rating without hurting because I didn't see anything about charging it at a lower mah for lipo charging
It should be ok to leave the charger set to 5100mAh when charging in normal LIPo mode. If gens ace provided a lipo mah rating and a lihv rating, you should update the mAh setting in the charger according to your charge method. If gens provided only one mAh rating for the battery, use that with whatever charge mode you use. Hope that helps. This can get a little confusing. -Brett
Batteries with bullet connectors need a bullet style charge lead, like this one for 5mm bullet batteries: www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-2s-charge-balance-adapter-tstyle-ultra-plug-to-5mm-bullet-connector-ptk-5324/p244695 You'll want to plug the 5mm bullets into the battery with correct polarity, as well as the 2mm balance bullet. Then connect the t-style adapter, included with the 625, into the charger. Also, connect the balance board included with the 625 into the charger. With those connected to the charger first, connect the t-style from the battery into the t-style on the charger, and connect the balance plug on the battery into the 2S port on the balance board. Before you buy a charge lead, ensure your battery uses 5mm bullets and not 4mm, because both styles exist. Here is a similar charge lead with 4mm bullets if that is what you need: www.amainhobbies.com/racers-edge-2s-charge-balance-adapter-tstyle-to-4mm-bullets-rce1626/p713502 -Brett
I was going to say the same, they had their chance to do this along with the update. I'm done with deans (T plug) please bring on the XT60 or XT90 for larger batteries.
AMain Hobbies I have a Traxxas Slash and Rally with the XL-5. I have. 2S Venom battery that came with adapters for different ESC plugs. I was just curious if these batteries offered the same thing as the Venom batteries.
That's a good question. On batteries with barrels, you use a special adapter that plugs into the positive, negative and the 2mm hole in the center for balancing. The adapter is usually included with the battery and uses a t-style connector and standard 2S balance connector. This is what it looks like: www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-2s-charge-balance-adapter-tstyle-ultra-plug-to-5mm-bullet-connector-ptk-5324/p244695 -Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies Hey Brett, I'm returning to the hobby after a 15 year absence. I've gotta say all the new tech is overwhelming. I'm going to get back with a Tekno eb410 but dont even know which type/size/capacity etc batteries I need, or how to pair them with an appropriate charger. Please help!!! Thanks for the content, keep up the great work. Sub'd!
No, but there's no need. The charge lead on the battery charger will feature the balance plug wired in. When charging a battery, you plug in the + & - bullet plugs and also the balance plug ( 3 plugs total). This keeps the battery without wires, connectors or any extra weight, which you want from a competition-grade battery. For basher purposes, you may want to look at other batteries that come with installed wire/connectors. -Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies hey Brett, I had a great idea for a new AMain video. A lot of people ask me RC questions and I just send them to your channel normally, lol. But I had an idea where in one of your videos you could go through the classes of RC cars and then talk about the best starter option and or the best extreme option for each of those classes. Classes being rock crawlers drag cars two wheel drive batchers four wheel drive batters drift cars you name it can also go by scale or lipo battery usage like 2s, 3s, 4s, 6s, and 8s. The reason for the video being most people want to get started in a certain class of RC driving or racing but they don't know what models to start with. Love you guy's videos keep up the great work!
Hey Bill. It stands for High Voltage LiPo, and it is similar to a regular LiPo battery, but a LiHV will allow you to charge it to 4.35V per cell, where a standard LiPo is 4.20V a cell. In the end, a LiHV is more efficient and more powerful. -Brett
does anyone make videos on charging HV lipos jesus is it illegal or something? supposedly for 2s balancer plug its a 4pin for a Thunder power charger ? then there are no specific charge cables on amain for 2s hv lipos .
You shouldn't need any special equipment for LiHV batteries, only that your charger is LiHV compatible. The LiHV should plug into the charge the same fashion as a non-LiHV battery. -Brett
