I love your content! I am IT Systems Admin and Trainer in the US, I currently work in Education IT, and I have experience training IT systems to foreign language employees (India and Mexico). I am 49 and want to teach abroad. I dont have a bachelors and I am 49 years old. If I got a TEFL, would I have alot of problems getting a average teaching job in asia other than Cambodia? I was told my age is an issue. BTW, NYHxC forever!!!
He can definitely get you work in Cambodia without a degree it might be a little bit harder but he can do it you’ll make a little bit more money in Vietnam than you would Cambodia

I did the ESL thing in VN for 5 years straight. Never bothered to get a certificate. 💀 I ended up doing some pretty decent gigs but the absolute chaos of VN life got the best of me, so I bounced back to Europe.
Great conversation, Appreciated. Those teaching stories from uncle Hollywood and you are so much fun. If I would ever choose to start teaching in Vietnam I’d definitely contact you. If I know anyone i will inform them about your business. You have a good heart.
I just moved to Saigon/HCMC, and I’m having a bit of a rough time looking for a teaching job with no experience, I lived in Seattle my entire life but on the outside I am Asian, I’ve heard people they prefer people that look more American than Asian idk I am correct or not I am just simply tryna land something so I can start having a steady income. Much thanks! Love your channel bud
Thanks. If you decide to work with us, I can be 💯 helpful in helping you get a job. Viet Nam is pretty racially focused, but not every employer is. Feel free to reach me on the fb fan page or any of the contact information in the description. Be happy to help. It's what we do. The mindset in Asia is very, very different from the West, but 💯 you can work with it.
Definitely, and they are in school all day, so having some fun with the foreigner isn't a bad thing. The teachers who are too strict misunderstand the point of the job.
ESL companies that farm teachers out to public schools in Saigon are poorly run. Never endured a greater number of useless meetings and mandatory busywork than during the 3-month stint I taught in HCMC. The tone and tenor of my life improved dramatically when I quit and was just able to enjoy what Saigon had to offer. I can only surmise that the goal of Vietnam is to bring us folk over, then work us to death. They had me working 52 hours per week for $2367 per month. They counteract bad labor practices by hiring teachers primarily from Afriica, Russia and the Balkans - regions more grateful for the work than Americans. My replacement tried to quit too but the hiring entity ran after his ass, begged him not to quit - had he done so the hiring entity would have had mud on their face - they didn't want that - two teachers in succession quitting. Saigon is a good joint for eating and partying, a bad one for work.
I had a very different experience. Most of them I told them what I would do and set the terms. I am white, American, and good, so I knew what they were getting for me at these schools. They definitely tried to get me to do things I just never did. Eventually, I found some that were pretty solid to work for. Definitely did take a while. The beginning was sort of learning the ropes.
@@rebornabroad In 2024 remote work has been normalized - anyone can earn $15K to $5K per month and live wherever. Keep the movable work out of the U.S. and live in Vietnam. Or earn $7K per month working on a cruise ship for 6 months and party in S.E. Asia the other six.

Depends on who you work for and how you look. Some places won't like it. If you are white, in shape, and younger, it will be ok. Some employers won't care. We do hourly consulting and also full packages for our employment network. Let me know if I can be of service.

It's common sense you don't want to be too strict as a english teacher sometimes you want to let the kids to relax
