Oh thank you so much! I am watching the weather cool down again with lots of anticipation because I can't wait to wear it this autumn :) Thank you for watching and have a wonderful day 🥰
Hi there, watching from New Zealand . I learned to spin on an Ashford wheel 2 years ago and let me tell you, the fun never stops . The only thing at the start is you must put the hours in to make progress. I joined a local group and watched heaps of You Tube, but it’s still time with your hands and the wool that make the difference. Go for it, you’ll never look back.
That is so lovely and encouraging! You are absolutely right and to be honest I am enjoying the process even if the “yarn” I’m making is a bit rubbish 😂 Thank you so much for watching 🥰
So cool you are test knitting for Maxim Cyr. I can’t wait to see the finished cardigan. I had the pleasure of meeting him at Knit City in Toronto a couple of weeks ago, and I’m planning on knitting his new Nevermore Sweater 😊love your podcast, I always learn so much
You lucky thing going to Knit City Montreal! The Nevermore is so nice! I am going to knit the Nightfall for my partner at some point, maybe for Christmas this year. Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Hi, a lovely podcast as always. I also started spinning on a Kiwi 2 and loved it. My dream spinning wheel is a Majacraft, they are beautiful. I've just finished knitting a Coorie In Poncho for myself and I'm now knitting a Quaintly vest for one of my granddaughters. Watching from NZ
Thanks a lot for your lovely podcast. ❤ I watched it while working on my actual sweater-spin. 😊 I learned spinning on a Bliss from Woolmakers. Now I use most of the time the Ashford Espinner. In my opinion spinning is like knitting: practice is the key. I also started with "schwangeren Regenwürmern". 😂 Now I like my yarns and enjoy knitting with them so much, that I don't buy yarn any more. 😊 Keep on going and happy spinning.👍
I am persevering with the spinning but looking forward to a bit of time off soon so I can really focus on it. Schwangeren Regenwürmern 😂 Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Love the test knit sweater. It's absolutely stunning. I can well imagine it's not the perfect travel project. I've made that mistake many a time😂😂😂. I'm currently away from home on a work trip and managed to just bring one neglected project, which I'm pleased about, cos it needs the attention. Xx
Indeed! That is such a good idea to take a neglected WIP as a travel project; you have no choice but to work on it! Enjoy your trip and thanks for watching again 🥰
You are so kind! I did spend Monday afternoon ripping out and fixing the cardigan and I actually took the opportunity to rip back to the the yoke before splitting to add in a couple more underarm stitches after my partner said he would like it a little roomier :) Every cloud has a silver lining! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
For a second, I thought that was Stephen West in the first shot of the yarn store. I’ve been to Stephen & Penelope it was lovely. Amsterdam was a great stop after our time in Shetland for Wool Week and I went with a friend who lived there so she knew exactly where to take me. My favorite book as a child was Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I grew up in New England (Rhode Island) so it was a popular book there. I’ve been in California since 1988 and have lived mostly in Northern CA near San Francisco but have moved to the San Diego area. Lovely peonies behind you! I’m currently swatching for a Gansey for my husband, decided on the New Haven.
Haha :) I have been there many times and have sadly never run into Mr West :) Shetland Wool Week is the dream! It must have been so much fun! I love Little Women as well but it wasn't until I was studying Literature at university that I realised the significance of Concord and the links to Emerson, Thoreau and the Transcendentalists. It is such an important little book :) Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Another wonderful journey ❤ I am so happy to experience spinning with you. I worked with spinning when my daughters were young but that was LONG ago. Lovely podcast
Hello neighbour :) It is wonderful to discover just how many people spin! I just want to get good enough to justify buying pretty hand-dyed fibre :) Thank you so much for watching 🥰
What beautiful test knits, love the gentle colour changing in the art nouveau, I’ve only made one of her sweaters & loved every minute of it! Thank you for such a lovely podcast 😍
i just found your podcast - your knitting is gorgeous!!! that color work sweater is incredible. i’m from connecticut, usa - currently knitting on my agnete cardigan by petite knit with some hand spun corriedale that i spun on my wheel from the 1800s! i learned to spin on an ashford traveler around 4 years ago and have been obsessed ever since haha - it’s definitely an interesting learning process but you will get to the point eventually where you won’t have to think about what you’re doing. just keep at it! spinning is so meditative, for sure one of my favorite things to do. so glad to have found your channel, looking forward to following along with your podcast
Hi, Kathryn! I just found you tonight and really enjoyed your podcast! I live in San Francisco, just south of your sister. Trust me, when that fog rolls in, it gets to be freezing!! We also have chilly nights in the winter. This winter, we had more rain than Seattle. You can be sure that if you knit for your Cali family, the pieces will get worn. Really enjoyed hearing about your travels, yarn haul, spinning and WIPs. That Art Nouveau looks amazing! I just finished a test knit for James N Watts and am now finishing a Mutch Shawl by Isabell Kraemer (in Nutiden) and a Tegna by Caitlin Hunter (a tee knit in a linen/cotton chainette yarn I dyed myself). I could have used that Nutiden shawl tonight, it was freezing, 57 degrees! Anyway, I look forward to watching all your episodes and thanks for putting out such fun content!
Hi in SF! I loved visiting your city so much a few years ago and hope to go again very soon :) I will take your comment as permission to go crazy with the knitwear and they will all get at least accessories this Christmas 😂 I am curious what you were testing for James N Watts so I will have to look at his socials! I love working with Nutiden too and am thinking of casting on the Like a Cloud Cardigan from Joji Locatelli at some point :) The Tegna tee is so pretty! I just added it to my favourites :) Thank you so much for watching 🥰
I’m from upstate New York, south of the Adirondacks and north of the Catskills in a little old Dutch Hudson River valley town. Sounds cuter than it is. 😄 I’m working on using my sweater quantity stash to make some simple top down pullovers and cardigans. Just finished the Finial Cardigan by Estelle (added sleeves) cardigan with 1 strand of Tulip fingering held with a strand of Snow mohair from Barnyard Knits. Also crocheting granny squares to make a retro pullover. 🤷🏻♀️ And knitting a very basic dark blue pullover. Enjoying your videos! My favorite books as a child were The Littles, I think. Thanks for sharing your story.
Oh wow! Where you live does sound adorable 🥰 I just looked up the Finial Cardigan and it is now in my Ravelry favourites, and it is a free pattern! Thank you for the tip! The Littles books aren't something that I have come across before but I am sure I would be in the minority in your part of the world :) Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Hello from USA/ New Hampshire. I learned on a Louet many many years ago. I don't spin really any longer. Id rather knit . Love the gorgeous Test knit! Thank you for taking us with you.
Hello from Aotearoa New Zealand 👋 I'm sitting in some winter sunshine knitting some socks while I watch. Yarn shops can be very dangerous places! I try not to visit too often 🤣 I haven't got into colour work yet, but that art nouveau one looks beautiful!
Hello in NZ :) If you are up for trying a little colourwork, I recommend a cowl, maybe one from Pacific Knit Co as she does some really fun designs! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Enjoyed your podcast! writing from North Carolina. Currently knitting test knit for Teti Lusak Drevo pullover. Wondered if you knew of the Moomin Knit Socks book releasing June 18th?
You'll get the hang of spinning, it's building muscle memory built through repetition and time at the wheel, and most people do not come out of the gate doing it well. The best advice I received was to get something such as Corriedale, Falkland, or Cheviot (medium wools in a top preparation) and spin a pound of it. Art yarn is highly technical and as someone who is quite consistent it humbled me greatly when I took a workshop, even more so than when I learned to spin. Tour de Fleece is starting at the end of the month, that's a great time to build consistency at the wheel. I learned on a Babe (I'm shocked I continued), but my Lendrum was the wheel I learned consistency with. I currently have a Lendrum, an Ashford Elizabeth, Ashford Traditional, an Ashford E3, a Matchless, and a vintage Norwegian wheel named the Norwegian Princess. I'm gifting a vintage Ashford Traditional to my sister to learn on, and that's an excellent wheel for beginners, very little bells and whistles. The Ashford Kiwi you're learning on is also really nice wheel to learn on, as there's not much to it.
That is such a good idea to participate in Tour de Fleece, and thank you so much for the fibre and wheel tips; I genuinely appreciate it. I am determined to get the hang of it and it is so much fun to try even it if it is a bit frustrating at the moment! Thank you so much for watching 🥰
I totally understand! One or two of the characters are definitely a little scary like the Groke and the Hobgoblin! I loved spooky stories when I was a kid though, still do :) Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Ray from needles at the ready is completing the same test knit and made the same mistake in the pattern , but his was at the top of the sleeves . He left his as a unique statement 😂
That's a really good idea! The original yarn the designer used is a linen/merino so a merino/alpaca would work really well :) Thank you so much for watching 🥰
Your Art Nouveau sweater looks amazing! I am Dutch, so I will help you a little bit 😀. Wol = wool, met verve is with passion, exaltation, zest. You say Sheepjes, but there is that C in it. CH make a sound that isn't used in most languages, it is a bit like a roaring dog. Just try it, ggrr from the back of your throat 🤣. Looking forward to all the projects you will knit with the beautiful yarns you have bought. Anja (eenleukleven)
That is so helpful! Thank you! That 'ch' sound seems similar to the 'ch' in Welsh so I can totally do that :) And thank you for explaining the meaning of Wol met verve too! Thank you so much for watching 🥰

Yes, the algorithms are a mystery to me too, so thank you for finding me! The unspun I am wearing in the episode is plates from Woollentwine but yes, it's kind of similar although the plutolopi is much more rustic. My favourite unspun is Nutiden and I will definitely talk more about it on future episodes. Have fun knitting for your beautiful new granddaughter 🥰

I love your intro film where there is a couch in the store for the man to sit on while his wife shops (assumption that may or may not be correct). 😊
It is such a nice idea isn't it! I think the store owners host knit-nights there too and it looks so cosy. Thank you so much for watching 🥰
