  • The far south coast of New South Wales was hard hit by last season’s bushfires, with over a thousand homes destroyed and native wildlife and forests devastated.
But over recent years, the region has also been home to a resurgence of the traditional practice of cultural burning, to heal the land and promote biodiversity.
For the first time since the bushfires, Indigenous crews across the region are conducting burns to protect valuable pockets of land and collaborating with private landholders to extend the potential of traditional fire management.
Produced in consultation with South Coast Aboriginal Elders, with footage supplied by James Patrick Photography. Thumbnail image by Gilliane Tedder.
