To add more to that uncle's words. All the people who live in and around Darjeeling and Sikkim are Nepalese and our mother tongue is Nepali. Our fore fathers were from Nepal and we have been living in the hills since centuries. Its just that Sikkim got its separate state but the people from Darjeeling, Kalimpong and other parts are still merged with West Bengal. So we are demanding our separate state "Gorkhaland" (Land of the Gorkhas) for more than 100 years and the fight is still going. And yes though we reside in west bengal but we have a huge difference in culture and tradition as compared to bengalis. Simply put, we are Indian - Nepalese demanding our identity.
