  • Decades of exposure to sci-fi literature, movies and games have shaped our vision of VR, establishing certain expectations. In this session, we talk about chasing these fantasies and sculpting them into real products that children, grandparents, teachers, and gamers alike can comfortably enjoy. First, we introduce a framework that’s enabled us to turn out 60+ VR prototypes with weekly sprints. Next, we discuss a new design process for exploring, polishing, and launching consumer VR products while avoiding the pitfalls of a traditional 2D workflow. Finally, we conclude with tips for building your own VR design team.

They are missing the 1 biggest lesson missed by everyone working in VR today, READ VR papers that were published since the 90s. Everything these guys are "discovering" now have been discovered for more than 20 years.

That is true. But there seems to be a need to invite all new. I dont know why, but for me this is going a huge step too far than taking small steps to reach the mainstream. Motion-Controller, 360° Environment, Spatial Mapping, etc... Who is going to use this when even Palmer Luckey says that the future of VR is in mobile?! But I guess this has to be done since the audience is not as much invited in VR as some people like us are.. :)

Common sense is not common in VR. Everyone just wants to jump in with muddy thinking!

I tried, but I can't watch this more than 8 minutes.
Does anyone in this "VR 2.0 bus" realizes that people have been working on VR for the last 20 years and that the HMD is only the part that prevented you to consider real time 3D beyond video games ?

Hi Rich, thank you for your comment. We very much realize, respect, and are very grateful for all of those who have been working in the industry for so long. It is truly humbling. As VR gains in momentum, there are going to be many new developers and designers engaging with the platform. We just want to be as helpful and encouraging as we can be, so that we can encourage (and hopefully help) as many enthusiastic VR experience creators as possible. :)

If you're a designer with even basic understanding of 2D --> 3D conventions, this talk won't add anything to your repertoire.
