Hey, greetings from the UK. I liked your appreciation of this great band. This track is the final song of 'On Land and in the Sea' for many Cardiacs fans ('Pondies') their greatest album and certainly the culmination of Cardiacs' 6 piece 'classic' line-up. You are spot on in finding The Residents an influence, Cardiacs were influenced by RIO bands like Art Bears, as well as punk, post-punk and prog (Gentle Giants, early Genesis, even Queen). You said the song was like a musical: Cardiacs had a very theatrical stage show and made a few films : the early Seaside Treats, the excellent concert film Mares Nest and the late rehearsal-video-as-performance-art 'Fairytales from the Rotten Shed', which is an unmissable delight. Maybe have a listen from their double album 'Sing to God' next: 'Dog Like Sparky' or 'Fiery Gun Hand', to hear another stage in their development. The good news is that their final album, 'LSD', another double, should be out next year, 16 years after Cardiacs' leader Tim Smith had a catastrophic heart attack which disabled him and 5 years after his sad death. Enjoy your journeys in the pond!
You just answered most of my doubts and questions about this great band. Of course I want to continue listening to much more of Cardiacs. It seems that sooner or later I'll become just another "Pondie". Thank you very much for your comment and for stopping by my channel.
These mad beautiful bastards were the first band i evee paid to see at 16 and ruined slot of other bands because they are still one of the best i ever saw highly recommend checking out the live film all that glitters is a mares nest from around this time and is one of 3 favourite live films along with stop making sense by talking heads and big time by Tom Waits
Bravo sir, I think you may just be tempted to explore Cardiacs a little bit more but I warn you, once you fully go down this rabbit hole . . . there is no turning back! For a wider insight into their genius I would suggest listening to either 'As Cold As Can Be In An English Sea', 'RES', 'Loosefish Scapegrace' or maybe 'Dirty Boy' . . . for a nice 30 year sample spanning a minute example of their output . . . Enjoy your journey
Hola! Thanks for giving this song a listen. From a combination of your expressions, and the fact that I can manage just enough Spanish (listening - speaking, I know how to say Hola!) to get myself into trouble, I take it you enjoyed it. I hope so. That's the main aim. I can't remember if I recommended the cover by Italian musician, Paulo Sala, in which he plays all the instruments (and improvises some) before. Just in case I didn't, here's a link to it. I think you'll enjoy the show. th-cam.com/video/DtB4tEAesgA/w-d-xo.html (He also covers Tarred and Feathered, and has done a simulated orchestral arrangement of a song you might one day encounter, Dirty Boy, among many other things.)

And now I wish I knew some Spanish.
