Too many great artists across all the mediums you have to start crossing out if its also about the personal life for you...I chose to focus on the art only. On the topic of Drake vs Kendrick, I think Drake wounded himself more than Kendrick did by his bitter sounding hurt outro on The Heart part 6. Someone doing well in a beef doesn't sound like that...
Great recap 👍. Yeah, I’m done with Kendrick, Drake, and Cole…for now. I’ve been listening to Karma a lot recently, Avant killed the hook, but Lloyd Banks’ mumbling was not it 😂. Also, any anime that got your interest?
I cannot describe my hatred for "spoken word rap" it's the worst thing to ever touch this genre. People think "speaking" is music☠ sorry but I ain't bumping a rapper just talking on a song - there are a few exceptions, but generally the beat has to be extremely good to compensate for spoken word rap and many times it can't. Spoken word rap is basically to me - a rapper just talking normally on the beat with no sense of flow/rhythm and practically no conviction in their words. This is practically a lot of Kendrick's music, and surprisingly, a lot of Drake's music as well. I hadn't realizied until recently, but songs like "Chicago Freestyle" and the third verse on Family Matters are basically hard to turn up to. For me I look at rap as black and white. You either make music people can turn up to, or you make music that catch people in their motions. If you do neither, the music ends up either mediocre or trash. Kendrick is trying to do both. He made Humble and Not Like Us for the "turn up to" crowd - yet those songs are wack to me because they're over the top and funky. Then he makes songs like SAMIDOT and FEEL for the "catch people in the motions" crowd. But again, these unfortunately put me to sleep rather than make me feel emotional. I look at both Drake and Kendrick - Drake doesn't make good music hip-hop wise that "hits you in the motions" he has to switch to R&B to make anything half-decent. However, Drake has done a better job overall at making enjoyable bumpable music for clubs compared to Kendrick, although, Drake is now played out. While the first part of Family Matters is one of Drake's best songs imo in terms of flow and punch, it's not like this is anything new for Drake. He's sounded the same for like a decade now, and people are bored of Drake. They'll listen and forget. He'll have a song trend on TikTok for a while, and then people will go back to listening to overrated One Dance, and God's Plan, Passionfruit etc. Kendrick is not played out like Drake is because Kendrick doesn't make music as often so Kendrick is like a breath of fresh air to mainstream hip-hop for casuals. Different voice and different personality to kind of be Drake's antithesis. Of course if Kendrick starts to make music consistently he'd get exposed, but I doubt this will happen.
Speaking of Redman, did you hear about him and Method Man performing at Summer Jam and how dead the crowd was when they came out? Can’t really say I’m all that surprised seeing that it was likely a crowd full of young casuals, but it caused some discourse. Mostly from their fans or people discrediting their discographies.
That crowd was definitely not for them. Lol at putting Meth and Red on a lineup with Sexyy Red and Doja Cat as headliners The older crowd they performed for at the Roots Picnic was much better
@@itsX2024 I can imagine Plus this year's Summer Jam was held at UBS arena which is an indoor colosseum vs the Roots Picnic literally being held outdoors Generally huge indoor colosseum's cater to sports and wrestling events (plus pop artists) In contrast to an outdoor park which is literally the type of terrain that hip-hop was birthed on (park jams lol)
Houdini is just a little dragged out, and the hook is poor. It's better than some of recent hip-hop coming out, but it's still pretty mediocre imo. Not complete trash though.
Very random thought but I can’t stand this dude Ian who blowing up rn. This is coming from a white dude lol, but stg anytime a white guy blows up and is doing some trendy bullshit it’s a big deal cause the culture thinks it’s funny. That’s why I love Mac Miller so much. Brother was actually caring about what he was putting out. End of the day if you’re white in hip hop, you’re using a black art form to leverage yourself and I understand that, but if you’re at the least TRYING to be for the culture that’s different. Edit: ians music is also garbage 😂 would be different if he was actually good, his image being corny is just too much for me.
Humiliation culture is big right now. I see even black content creators outside of Hip-Hop reinforcing negative stereotypes about black culture for cheap laughs and going viral - entertainment for the white kids in the suburbs. A lot of rappers nowadays are doing exactly the same for money and clout. Mac Miller was a genuine Hip-Hop fan and student of the culture from what I can tell.
I can’t lie that Eminem song was actually fun not my cup of tea but I actually enjoy it for what it was. Definitely better than a lot of solo songs he did in a decade 😂
Can't even front, that "Not Like Us" is one of the most iconic diss records of all time. He had the music world in a frenzy for an entire month straight, in fact it just now finally got displaced from the #2 spot on the Billboard 100. He finally dropped that anthem that the culture's been waiting for and it showed in its immediate impact, especially out West.
That song is so fucking corny 😂 it's only getting pushed because of Drake hate. I listen to Kendrick and I like a lot of his tracks, but those are literally the worst bars I've ever heard from him. And the colonizer angle is braindead pandering.
And this right here is one of the factors contributing to the lameness in hip-hop. Fans so quick to call something "classic" or "iconic" out of desperation. Smh.
I’m very been waiting forever for you to break your silence on these topics. Thank you so much for your input.

Cap. Drake won. You sausage police lover.
Lies
Gunna is way better than Kendrick Lamar. I'm surprised you haven't heard Prada Dem by Gunna yet.
New Gunna album put me to sleep tbh. I haven't vibed with Gunna since Turbo stopped producing for him.
Wouldn't Lil Kim and Foxy Brown be applicable to how sarah baartman was sexualized too?
Great recap 👍. Yeah, I’m done with Kendrick, Drake, and Cole…for now. I’ve been listening to Karma a lot recently, Avant killed the hook, but Lloyd Banks’ mumbling was not it 😂. Also, any anime that got your interest?
Haven't watched the video but I know you'll shit on Houdini, cos that song was garbage but was botted up into a "hit"
That Diplomats beat is tough 🔥
One of their best!
Unrelated to the video, but I was wondering if you ever listened to any Joyner Lucas projects? How do you rate him?
He's a social media rapper.
Always great to see a video from ya 🙏🙏🙏
I appreciate that! Thanks!
Lol at putting Meth and Red on a lineup with Sexyy Red and Doja Cat as headliners
The older crowd they performed for at the Roots Picnic was much better
@@itsX2024 I can imagine
Plus this year's Summer Jam was held at UBS arena which is an indoor colosseum vs the Roots Picnic literally being held outdoors
Generally huge indoor colosseum's cater to sports and wrestling events (plus pop artists)
In contrast to an outdoor park which is literally the type of terrain that hip-hop was birthed on (park jams lol)
Def mostly casuals, still disappointing to see such a poor reception to two legends, they got hot shit for days.
Houdini was ok, it was a nostalgia record for his OG fans, I get it. I have feeling the album is gonna be much different, tho.
Houdini is just a little dragged out, and the hook is poor. It's better than some of recent hip-hop coming out, but it's still pretty mediocre imo. Not complete trash though.
Totally random, are you looking forward to the Common & Pete Rock project ?
Hey tochi do you have any thoughts on the rapper Rasco i started listening to him recently and he's got some joints
8:26 Yo tochi, all though I think Drake is sus. This take is so valid! ☠️
Tochi what do you think of rhymes like dimes and doomsday by mf doom?
Lmfao I’m tapped in wit Azealia on Twitter too
Without me is trash
You didn’t talk about They not like us? Hot record or not?
Haven't heard it since it came out.
Definitely not a hot record. Just something made to pop off in the moment.
@@krate6579 I disagree. I’ve been hearing it everywhere since it dropped and it went number one.
Not really
@@balle733 It's already falling off the charts. It was hot for a month that's it. It will drop off like HISS.
@@krate6579 hiss wasn’t an anthem. This is a west coast DJ mustard type anthem breaking streaming records. And it’s playing in the clubs too.
If Megan makes music for white people then what does drake, nicki, sexy redd do?
22:52-24:45
@@tiger_lord305 exactly
I can’t lie that Eminem song was actually fun not my cup of tea but I actually enjoy it for what it was. Definitely better than a lot of solo songs he did in a decade 😂
12:39 😹😹😹
Finna smoke and listen to this 😂😂
Can't even front, that "Not Like Us" is one of the most iconic diss records of all time. He had the music world in a frenzy for an entire month straight, in fact it just now finally got displaced from the #2 spot on the Billboard 100. He finally dropped that anthem that the culture's been waiting for and it showed in its immediate impact, especially out West.
lol at 'iconic'.
That song is so fucking corny 😂 it's only getting pushed because of Drake hate.
I listen to Kendrick and I like a lot of his tracks, but those are literally the worst bars I've ever heard from him. And the colonizer angle is braindead pandering.
"Iconic" off of one month of radio play 😭😭
Freefalling off the charts. Not real hip-hop music.
And this right here is one of the factors contributing to the lameness in hip-hop. Fans so quick to call something "classic" or "iconic" out of desperation. Smh.
Btw man I gotta send you on IG some different shit for you to listen to and see what you think
