Run Away! After re-doing 2 of these old girls, there is MAJOR money to be spent on the inside of the engines if they have not been cared for. I don't see this one ever being of significant value.
I agree the money pit can get deep really fast. Check out the other videos on this bike. I think we came up with an affordable solution. th-cam.com/play/PL-scC4K--fyPmIXNHW0M_WWO6UV3MqYNI.html
I am looking forward to it. I did a bunch of them last year on Instagram. It just wasn’t the best platform to watch/listen. Cant rewind or fast forward. Let me know if you want to do one. Thanks for watching.
My money is on a stuck carb float that hydrolocked that left cylinder with alcohol-goosed fuel. When fuel with high alcohol percentages evaporates, it leaves that 'It Came From Outer Space!" green slimey stuff. Don't ask how I know. ;-)
I’d say it depends on how much money he has to throw at it and commitment. Just the fact he has the frame, motor, and other parts is a good start. These rare bikes are special and take time unlike, say a cb350. But when it’s done the payoff is great. I’m kinda in the same boat with my 68 DT1, slightly intimidated to get into it
Gotta say, I've never seen stuff like that come out of an engine. I haven't the faintest idea what it is. Your guess of varnished fuel is as good as any, it's just that there's so much of it. I've never seen it do that. Did you take a whiff of it, if so, what did it smell like? Don't think it's RTV, though. It's all over the place in there and there doesn't appear to be any in the other cylinder. I see you've got the first episode of Talking Motorcycles up, so I'm watching that next. Can't wait to see the next episode of The Black Bomber, too.
I do half marval oil with half acetone. Let it sit for 2 weeks. Then i heat the cylinder with Map gas. When you see the vapor coming out the spark plug holes your ready to put a socket on the rotor nut amd hit it hard with a rubber mallet. Keep the torch away from the flammable acetone. I used this method on my 1974 Cb 350F that was locked up solid for 44 years it runs like a new bike.
If a bike is essentially complete, it is designed to withstand water ingress so I would wash first before you start taking a carb off or whatever. Also it means you will be working on a clean machine.
Honestly, it looks like a complete engine teardown and rebuild. New internals and bearing replacement at a minimum. I think your friend may have to think seriously before launching into a rebuild of this one.
I had a XS650, put 48+K miles on it. Needed the valves replaced, the tops had pitted . The charging system had failed. Gave the title to a guy who gave me a lift home, I'd forgotten to charge the battery at work that day. Few good memories. I think of it as a reliable BSA/Triumph, not comfortable. Mine had the step seat so, to my eye it was unattractive.@@motorcyclerewind
Wow could be a nice bike but going to take some money and if you can get a good one for 9k that’s a lot of work getting all the stuff and maybe only make a roller in the end unless you keep it ❤
I agree. If it were mine. I would make it a survivor. Do the engine, aftermarket seat and exhaust. Ride it as is, treat it like a rolling restoration. May take a few years to be finished but ride it the whole time. Thanks for watching.
I just the freed up a locked CB500T this past week (basically same as the 450) engine a buddy saved from being scrapped. It was apparently sitting in a backyard with no exhaust pipes. Lots of PB Blaster sprayed down the spark plug holes and into the cylinders worked for this one and always has in the past. Lots of water got into the left cylinder and rusted the piston in place
I gave just finished restoring a 1970 CB450 that hadn’t run in 43 years. I did all the work. Mine runs very well. You will NOT make money on your Bomber. I did my ‘70 because it was free and the engine was sound. Do the job because you want to, but you will lose your shirt financially on it.
find a second bike . save that one for parts, one thing i learned there's always a few parts you cant find. like the right control with the brake perch attached for a 1970 honda cb350 super sport or a repop rear fender.
I would put it aside and wait for the opportunity to find another one. I think it’s the cheapest way. Im doing it with my cb750 78 that needs everything. But it takes time…good luck!
That's a parts bike. Buying rebuild parts for the engine are like buying gold. (If you can source them). The juice is just not worth the squeeze for that old Honda. If you are just looking for a project to create "Content" then maybe cost isn't a factor. Cost would be a major factor for someone trying to put that bike back on the road.
We are in the same page. Normally, I take crappy motorcycles and make them run and ride as affordable as possible. The bike is worth saving. All depends on what his plans are for it. Thanks for watching.
Hot Diesel Fuel down the Spark Plug holes..then warm the Engine Block with a hot air Gun until the Diesel Starts to Vapourise...then Gentle pressure ONLY on the end of the Crank with a Small Spanner or Socket. no Hammers..
I would not do a restoration. Make a good running bike out of it . Keep the patina. Take off cylinder and rebore , check top end, clean carbs, new tires and tubes. Neck bearings etc . The cosmetic stuff is what brings the expense up.
best have rusty evapore liquid and diesel first, then oil. and if have hard rusted need use elektric evaporate elektrolyse rust off have best methor if can make, simple need only 12 volt power supply or full car battery and some hour time. then can use chemicals.
Personally I’d say fix/restore it, too many old motorcycles are broken into parts & every time one becomes a part bike then thats one more classic motorcycle removed from history.
@@motorcyclerewind not waste lot money buy spare parts second bike too, this condition bike not can cost newer more than 100$ old new spare parts cost lot more if search and buy new condition parts.
I bought my 66 cb450 new from long beach honda in long beach california. drove it 49k miles. loved it.
That’s awesome. They’re such great bikes. Thanks for watching.
Brilliant bike 💯
It sure is. Thanks for watching
thumbs up
👍
One of the best looking engines to ever come out of Japan.
I think so too. I have always liked these. Thanks for watching.
but best engine have honda CB 500-750 four or new honda models honda rebell 500 engine 300 and 500 have same engine. triumph or any other not has made better engine ewer,
My favorite bike ❤ I wouldn't powerwash it though because of the risc of damiging paint and other stuff. By hand is more safe and just as rewarding.
Such a great bike. Thanks for watching.

I would really love to come for a visit, drink a cold one(pop for me) and just talk 🏍 motorcycles, that would be awesome. 😊😊😊
Come on!!! Email me motorcyclerewind@gmail.com and let’s plan it.
Clean first, agree! Better for inspection and who wants to handle dirty parts.
Agreed. Thanks for watching.
The CB450 K0 (April 1965 - October 1968) was called the Whale in Japan and the Camel overseas due to the shape of its fuel tank.🐳🐪
Love this factoid. Thanks for watching
If it wasn't hydrolocked, which it really was. Well, then after that bath, it would be ! lol🤣🤣🤣🤣
The sludge/mud in the cylinder was crazy. Thanks for watching.
That faster than a650 triumph, a lot of history
Such a great motorcycle. Thanks for watching
I road one in 1975 it was just as fast as a Honda 750, they detuned in latter years.
Looking forward to the next episode on this bike.
I like ATF and acetone to unstick things.
I think I will fill it with ATF and Acetone when I drain the diesel. Thanks for watching.
Great idea about Talking Motorcycles, looking forward to all the episodes!

I was thinking it laid on that side and filled the cylinder. Then turned into space boogers. Thanks for watching.

Agreed. I think we should look for a later CB/CL450 engine and swap it. Take some time to rebuild this one. But be able to ride it in the meantime
pull it bore it to the max and presto a cb500 nearly! keep em coming great work.
That's a great idea. Thanks for watching.

Definitely think it’s varnished fuel. It may have laid on its side for a while.
I had one in the late 70s, that Bike climbs hills like crazy good. you cannot believe the tourk
Cant wait to ride it!
Special indeed . I know you will look after this one.
It is a really cool bike. Thanks for watching.
I do half marval oil with half acetone. Let it sit for 2 weeks. Great Tip! Thanks for sharing. I will add some acetone and Marvels to the diesel in the case right now. Patience is key!
Honda didn't use torsion bar valve springs again. Any idea why? I hate seeing these old bikes ruined.
If a bike is essentially complete, it is designed to withstand water ingress so I would wash first before you start taking a carb off or whatever. Also it means you will be working on a clean machine.
Agreed. Pus who wants a bunch of dirty motorcycles in their garage. Thanks for watching.
It a classic I would rebuild it.!
Thats the plan. Thanks for watching
Honestly, it looks like a complete engine teardown and rebuild. New internals and bearing replacement at a minimum. I think your friend may have to think seriously before launching into a rebuild of this one.
It could need lots of parts. Thanks for watching
Well, I think it's like a house. If the substance is good, then it's worth restoring.
The best I've used is 1/2 acetone and 1/2 atf.- never has failed me.
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching.
Can't wait to see the next episode, this is a special bike
Such a cool bike. Thanks for watching.
You are getting quite a few very good bikes. The XS 650, the Laverda (American Eagle), the CB 450, the 850 T. Each one is a champion!
I am pretty fortunate with the bikes I get. Some are mine and some aren't. Lucky to have good friends with great motorcycles.

I've got a container with petrol/diesel mix withdrawn from a customer's tank that I use for freeing up stuff that I can just let sit for days
I am going to have to make my own secret juice.

That was the biggest piston booger that I have ever seen
Watching it back it was on my sleeve for a while before I saw it.🤣 Thanks for watching.
save it :) ... it great content ;)
That's the plan! Thanks for watching.
Two words............."MONEY PIT"
The parts for this guy can be expensive.
I'm afraid this particular bike would be just too much to save, you'd never recoup the amount put into it, shame as they're an iconic machine.
Clean first, no doubt in my mind. I always have a semi-paranoid concern of dirt getting inside an engine or contaminating a bearing or grease.
I could not agree more. Thanks for watching.
If it has a good title I’d keep going with it. Do the later motors look the same?
Nope. The K0 is the best looking version by far.
That gooey thing is the Blob. Be careful, it will come to life and stalk you. The Blob, in a TH-cam channel near you!😱😱
You saw the Blob crawling up my arm. This cylinder is full of crap. 💩
if want repair just thats bike, no matter how much parts cost, then you have new condition good bike many year, but if repair and sell no can doing.
Agreed. Thanks for watching.

That’s awesome. I love the styling of the early 70’s CB450’s. I have a CL450 that is in the queue.
I think I would pull the top off and see what's inside the cylinder.
Don't believe I can pule top off without removing the engine. Thanks for watching.
find a second bike . save that one for parts, one thing i learned there's always a few parts you cant find. like the right control with the brake perch attached for a 1970 honda cb350 super sport or a repop rear fender.
You are right, each bike has an "unobtainium" part. Thanks for watching
if want do perfect work need first pressure wash all bike and then open carb and clean all, then check ignition .
That’s a great plan. I normally do ignition then carbs. Thanks for watching.
Parts bike for sure.
I would put it aside and wait for the opportunity to find another one. I think it’s the cheapest way. Im doing it with my cb750 78 that needs everything. But it takes time…good luck!
May be the best idea financially. Especially with a bike that is worth some money. Thanks for watching.
The owner has to realize that things are starting at $5000, maybe even more. Once you guys have cleared that the answer will be obvious.
The prices are pretty crazy for these. They’re not making any more of them.
That's a parts bike. Buying rebuild parts for the engine are like buying gold. (If you can source them). The juice is just not worth the squeeze for that old Honda. I’ve tried Marvel Mystery Oil - expensive stuff but seems to work.
I like Marvels. It works and smells good too. Thanks for watching.

Thats what I would do. Make it a rolling restoration. Thanks fro watching.
I use a gun cleaning solution made up of atf, acetone & kerosene.
I may add some ate and acetone to the diesel that's already in the case. Thanks for watching.
Bo seat - water in thru the intake
Definitely Thanks for watching!
Acetone and automatic transmission fluid mix to free it up.
Gonna give it a try.
Best penetrating oil ever is 50% Acetone 50% diesel although 50% Acetone 50% ATF runs it close
I may add some acetone to the diesel I already put in the case. It can’t hurt.
best have rusty evapore liquid and diesel first, then oil. and if have hard rusted need use elektric evaporate elektrolyse rust off have best methor if can make, simple need only 12 volt power supply or full car battery and some hour time. then can use chemicals.
Drain the oil put the plug back fill up with evaporust to the top 24 hours later drain again marvel oil inside I bet the engine will move
I think that is a great idea. Maybe we will get lucky🍀Evaporust worked wonders in the GPz. Thanks for watching.
Personally I’d say fix/restore it, too many old motorcycles are broken into parts & every time one becomes a part bike then thats one more classic motorcycle removed from history.
That’s might default setting. I want to save them all. Thanks for watching.
I use the best penetrating oil = gasoline
Gonna have to give some a try. It cant hurt!
I'd start with used motor oil.
Finally a use for the old oil laying around waiting be recycled. Thanks for watching.
My opinion?! Make it a parts bike.
Thanks
Dumpster!
Is there oneness your house I could throw it into!🤣 Thanks for watching.
It is a parts bike in my opinion unless you have stupid money to fix it
My thoughts as well. It’s a hard pill to swallow. Thanks for watching.
