    Love love love it!!
I'm a stay at home mom and my husband is an IT specialist. We are currently on the same mission. Our mortgage is for 15 years and we have doubled our monthly payments cutting our time in half. We also used our income tax to assist us in the process. So next year, we will have no mortgage at all!
We also purchased 2 acres and we are on our way to owning it in 10 years time OR less!! When you buckle down, write the vision and make it plain, it will work! Living proof right here!

I've made the mistake of always buying a new car. Now that my car is paid off. I take 1/3 of my old payment for my future used car fund. The other 2/3 I throw at the mortgage.

I've been binge watching your videos today. As a military wife, who has stayed home most of our marriage, this one really hit home and I had to comment. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! It's sad when I realize how many financial mistakes I've made over the years. I would say him too, but I gotta just take responsibility for me..lol. I shared one of your videos on my personal facebook page to spread the $130 cutting 13 years mortgage knowledge to my family and friends. Longest comment ever, but really truly....Thanks again!

One thing I find super motivating is to keep an amortization schedule. You would need to use a spreadsheet or software. The interest you pay each month is your annual rate divided by 12. Multiply that monthly rate times your current principal balance (call the bank for it); this will be the interest you pay for that month. There is likely an escrow account as well (call bank). The total payment you send in, minus escrow, minus interest, will be your principal reduction. You can subtract it from the total debt to see your progress. I'm using Excel, but I should imagine there are apps.
Not only is the principal reduction motivating, but so is the relative balance of interest/principal. You can see for yourself how extra money early on means *more* principal for you and *less* interest for the bank- not just for that month but for each and every month for the life of the loan. Just a couple of hundred of early bucks can mean a whole payment less, and big interest savings.
There is more detail if anyone wants it. The trick is to have a moving record- so you can plug in an extra principal payment easily and see immediately how you saved for your future, and how your loan got shorter.

You two are amazing and I love how you are both on the same team!
I have an owner hold mortgage. ... the owner holds the note, not a bank. How would I do this system with him?

Cheri Russo Thank you for your kind words! Do you plan to get a secured loan from the bank eventually...to buy the house? If so, we would put the money aside in a separate account so that once we get a bank loan for the house we can put more money down.

After watching your videos about mortgage payments back in July 2015. I immediately called my bank to see if they offered the payment bi weekly option and they did ( for free). So in August I began implementing your idea and I (we meaning my husband and I ) love it. I don't have to think about paying it and it forces me to be more accountable about our money. You guys are a blessing!!! Thank you so much and keep the videos coming!!!! Love you both!!!

You two and many others have inspired me to get this done. I’ve already told the wife that we’re gonna do this, it I need her help. I’ve seen so many stories of people paying off 250k-300k mortgages in 10 years or less. We have 136k on our house and 101k on my first house (we’re renting to her family). What do you think about refinancing it to one mortgage to pay off the other? I’m gonna talk to someone this week or next about it, but I figured getting one knocked out and have 1 payment would be a good route to go.

These are great tips, but for those folks that get paid biweekly monthly, as opposed to every other week, splitting the mortgage can create a crisis 2 months out of the year. Meaning, mortgage company will take out 3 (half) payments on those 2 months out of the year that have 5 weeks. If you get paid the 15th and end of month, you won't get that extra check that the others get. I hope that makes sense.

Tj Young Thanks so much for sharing! There are a lot of things we wish we would have known earlier as well. However, the important thing is... what we do with what we know now.

If you have an escrow included into your mortgage and your putting extra onto the principal. ........how do you factor the escrow into paying your mortgage off early as well?
