I never understood the appeal of gladiatorial combat, having people fight and torture themselves and others for the amusement of the masses. It didn't make sense or seem appealing to me. Then I watched filian, and it all made sense, thanks filian!

A lot of people are sadist naturally. People would hate to go into the arena themselves but absolutely love to watch the people fighting for their lives due to the sadistic enjoyment of it.
To be fair the people that really made it into a big spectacle and event would often times through persecuted minorities into the arena to be torn apart by things like lions in order to get the crowd in the right mood so yeah they didn't have the same morals to say the least
