    I was talking to my dad about how this offense and the way it's managed looked like Sirianni all over it. The lack of fundamentals last year starts at the head coach. My dad called it a gambling team, I called it a high risk high reward team. Thats why there was no identity last year and also why jalen plays hero ball. Its the mentality of the entire team. I have high expectations of both Coordinators to beat the basics into them again.

    Your explanations are so clean, smart and deep. It really gives me another point of view over the whole noise coming from the crowd.
    I don't know how far away this thinking and reasoning is from the professional one, but since it is rarely shown to the public i really appreciate it.
    Example: the issue with not adapting to the Falcons pass protection. How does this work during the game? how are this patterns not observed and adapted to? is there factor that we are not seeing? Are there not enough people in the booth going through this in depth after every play and giving Fangio the info in almost real time?

    We all may have been overreacting to tge last drive, defensively. Yes, generating sacks was an issue and likely the most glaring. Yes, the rush defense was also horrendous for stretches at a time. Let's tip pur caps to Bijan Robinson and that excellent offensive line. There's plenty of work to do, but it wasn't all bad. This defense is still gelling coaching-wise and personnel-wise. Let's be patient, despite the fact that there may be more questions than answers, at this point. Signs still point to this defense getting better as time goes. Each position group had flashes.

    Nick, what are your thoughts on the amount of run concepts were running and lack of under center? I understand shotgun makes jalens run threat viable, but you can also get the RB downhill and do some misdirection through the operation of the handoff from under center. We feel a little predictable like last year where last year we ran that shotgun PA TE leak into the flat off the rub concept from the same formation several times and now weve run the RB PA flat pass twice from the same undercenter formation.
    I guess simplified, are we running enough run concepts to be unpredictable and are we using enough formations in general to the advantage of our offense?

    I've been a huge Jordan Davis fan since we drafted him, but we've had another off-season of "his conditioning has been great!" and "He'll be on the field a lot more than last year!" But it's been more of the same; looks good on the 20 snaps he gets (Sorry, I don't have the actual snap count, might be hyperbolizing a bit) but it's not enough to make a big impact on the game.
    I'll come out as one of the black sheep that likes the call on the 3rd down swing pass to Saquon at the end of the game. That's a catch he makes 8/10 times, and if he were covered, Jalen just gets smothered and we move on with the field goal. I'm extremely disappointed it didn't work out (especially considering how much Saquon has contributed to this offense) but it happened.
    As much as I'd love to see Saquon take over as the focal point of this offense, it would be irresponsible to load him up on 350 carries before January. If we keep finding ourselves playing close games on a week to week basis (and can't get Kenny in there to spell Saquon), our offense could find itself on life-support like the Giants did when they made the playoffs in 22'.
    Thomas Booker III played some good football on Monday. Just want to make sure that doesn't get overlooked.
    I totally agree we need to give this thing a chance to work (with Sirianni) but we have 2 coordinators with a lot of head coaching chops in the organization that could likely navigate a playoff run if need be. If there were ever a year we wanted to fire him early this is the year (looking at the hiring pool of Ben Johnson, Bobby Slowick, and surely a couple other really good ones I'm forgetting; better to get our name into the running early)
    These videos always do a great job at 'bringing down the temperature in the room' and I think Eagles fans could use some more of that in their lives'.

    I agree with you 99% of the time BUT the 3rd down throw that Barkley dropped WASNT the primary play from Sirianni/Moore. It was to draw the defense offsides…..and they got it. The Oline was expected offsides, not a neutral zone infraction and never reacted. Hurts was FORCED into the pass play. It was a good call by Sirianni but bad execution by the Eagles.

    So are we to expect this defense to continue to play with a passive posture? Whatever system you run as you stated must have an attack mode in which they alter there own tendencies. The eagles dont do this with the front seven or the backend. Its an organizational thing as the front office never want to play risk reward going against analytical tendencies. No press man. Few blitzes vs an immobile QB because the front office believed they gave up too many points wk one. This is why they have been better in red zone because your options become defined unless you're Slay who plays off no matter what. I would prefer a purge of all these old guys. Maddox and Slay but honestly that doesn't matter when you're an organization that refuses to play its strengths on both sides of the ball. You invest in powerful men to be passive. PFM, why are you saying the Eagles are going to run their "even front with their four down linemen." They're running it with only TWO down linemen, with their edge rushers standing up in a wide-9 technique, on early downs no less! Literally, any team can gash you on the ground against that front. There is literally no one in the B or C gaps. That is way too much natural space to run the ball. What do you suppose the thinking is behind continuing to run this porous front on early rundowns despite teams running at will against it. On the rare occasions Fangio decided to run a base 52 type look, not surprisingly, we shut down the run (Booker's reps were primarily in a base 52 ). But typically, Fangio will sit all game in a wide-9 nickel on 1st and 2nd down, like he's completely surprised and caught off guard by a team desiring to run the football. Perhaps the issue isn't a question of odd or even fronts, but a question of base or nickel. And I cannot, for the life of me, grasp why a team would choose to run wide-9 nickel on early downs against run-heavy teams! BTW, the explosive run play the Packers broke in Week 1 was an outlier play, a jet sweep. Jets sweeps are hardly a team's bread and butter.

    • @PhillyFilmRoom
      @PhillyFilmRoom  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'll have a video out soon about the run defense but in short, that's not accurate. His base nickel front is an Over front which is the most popular front in the league, plenty of teams stop the run in that front. The Dolphins were 4th in rushing yards/att allowed last year running the same fronts. The Bears were 1st in 2018 when he was running that front. They switched to under fronts later in the game, to combat their constant Weak OZ runs, but then they couldn't crack replace correctly and kept giving up runs to the front side.
      The Eagles gave up two 30+ yard runs in their Odd front to the Packers. Just moving to an Odd front doesn't fix their issues.
      Fangio hasn't been running their base front because teams keep gashing them in 11 personnel. 42 of the 49 runs they have faced have been in 11 personnel. Fangio has matched 11 with base personnel in the past, but that puts you in severe conflict in the passing game.
      Most analysts you see posting online don't actually understand run fits, so when they see us getting beat in our 4 down fronts they don't know how to trouble shoot the issues so they say you have to change the front. Well, that might be our answer with our current personnel, we'll see. But it's Week 3, we haven't given them a chance to correct issues and if you say you can only run a certain type of front then that can make you more exploitable.

    • @1goldenratiopolitics
      @1goldenratiopolitics หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PhillyFilmRoom You may be right. But, again, it may not even be a question of even or odd, but, instead, a question of base or nickel. No matter how you slice it, base is much more stout against the run. I take your point that base puts you in severe conflict against the pass. But you'll probably have more opportunities to put teams behind schedule if they're forced to throw the ball every down as opposed to running it at will.

    • @1goldenratiopolitics
      @1goldenratiopolitics หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PhillyFilmRoom PFM, do you now see the benefit of a base 52 defense? Even when they were in a four-man front, they still got out of that atrocious wide-9. It's that simple! They're a completely different run defense in a 52! And against possibly the strongest rushing attack in the league! They also were able to sustain the Saints' passing attack despite being in base, as I suspected.

    We can't stop the run and our pass rush is non-existant so the writing is on the wall. This team has enough talent in general though that it should still allow them to secure a road wildcard playoff spot folllowed by a quick dismissal. The bottom line like I've been saying from the beginning is Jordan Davis just doesn't have the heart and will to win. He knows God blessed him with an athletic body and so he figured he could punch a clock and do the 9-5 thing for a few years with an NFL team and make some bank but it's obvious football is not his passion. If anybody is old enough to have watched Jerome Brown play, they know that he had an indomitable spirit. If Jerome Brown had the kind of body Jordan does, they would've had to park 12 ambulances at the stadium each sunday to cart all the crumpled running backs and quarterbacks to the hospital. Jordan just doesn't want it bad enough and he is stealing from the fans, his teammates and from Mr. Lurie and the whole Eagles organization.
