Or you can use and addon for Firefox called enhanced-h264ify where you can block h264 and unblock vp9 and AV1. That's what I did in my case instead on installing stuff from Cisco. For older hardware that only has hardware acceleration for h264 then your solution remains the ideal one.

I can certainly see the irony in that. You could use the Flatpak version of Chromium as temporary circumvention, I've just tested that on a fresh install and that has the codecs built in. Alternatively, check the article as mentioned in the description.

Had just upgraded to a 6800, when this happened. Still using Windows as a daily driver, had Fedora dual boot for about 6 months now.
