The one running on the mainline currently is number 37425 named "Concrete Bob" on one side and "Sir Robert McAlpine" on the other!

@@RailwayProductions-nd3tx you got there before me! I was about to say the very same thing. Also incase anyone is interested, Concrete Bob can be seen on railhead treatment duties every evening and early morning travelling between stowmarket through bury st Edmunds and right round to Norwich, in regional railways livery. There’s two RHTT based from stowmarket for a few more weeks, both are TnT with DRS 37’s.

God damn, this is like, the perfect loco in terms of all its features. When you were moving it about straight out of the box, it honestly looked like it was being pushed forwards and back, freewheeling, like a high-quality wagon - it almost felt like you had done some special effects magic to make it look that good (Though obviously that's not the case). 'Tis a shame Bachmann steam locomotives suck most of the time in comparison, as this was genuinely awesome to see in action.
(Also, just as a diesel suggestion, it'd be cool to see the Bachmann Class 121 Bubble Car reviewed, to see how it compares to both the Hornby and Dapol ones.)

Ok mukka, the 'steering wheel' in the cab is the locomotive handbrake... the light coloured 'wires' on the bogies are actually air pipes which can be seen connecting the brake cylinders to the gubbins inside the bogie... the orange object on the cab front is part of the electric train heating cables sockets which 374XX locos were fitted with... the white squares with red lines on the base of the cab sides are the fire extinguisher activation handles... and the gauge on the side of the fuel tank is... you guessed it... the fuel gauge! Hope that helps. Great review by the way. Regards from Oz. Gary

37s would thunder through Cheltenham station double headed on heavy coal wagons, from South Wales in the early eighties. What a lovely deep engine throttle, that you could feel going through you if you stood on the vibrating passenger bridge above them as they whizzed under

Nice loco the 37s and have spent many a hour as a driver's assistant on it , I don't have a Bachmann one but have a lima BR blue one , must get one of these some time when I have the money .and that gadge on the tank is the diesel fuel one, some of the class were fitted with extra long range tanks and replaced the old steam boiler one ,and they took a lot of fuel as I was the poor sod that had the job of refuelling lol.

The 'steering wheel' is actually for the long-removed water scoop. As with many of the first generation diesels, they required boilers to provide steam heating to carriages, and could refill on the move. Don't look for the scoop on the model of course - it's long since gone! As to what the wheel's doing on a modern-image locomotive, I know not. Is it an error - a leave over from an early BR Green version??? PS It's difficult to see, but in your final overhead shot, the fan does appear to be turning...

Iv had a Bachmann 37 since 2007. It’s identical in mechanism, but with out the lights as it’s in the BR Green and is one with our head code boxes, but mine is a and brilliant runner now. Brilliant model.
Bachmann annoy me with there price’s these days. Because mine was £79 in 2006 from Bure Valley Railway. If you want another brilliant Bachmann model try there 9F.
Bachmann in the early 2000s where way ahead of Hornby on quality, which was great because it’s made Hornby up there game. Sadly it just feels Bachmann have stuck to the same system, and just upped there prices.
Also if you fancy a giggle, 37s are called ‘growlers’. If you google Growler Group, you will get a class 37 owners club.

Top notch and hey run spotlessly like this Class 37; for similar prices. Hope the future Bachmann steamers are up to this quality. But sadly even the recent HS Atlantic only has a 3 pole motor ! Wow what an amazing model. She may not be number 1 overall but she certainly is top of the line for the OO range itself! As for Bachmann Diesels that might be of interest? Well there's the LMS Prototypes 10001 or 10000. Though judging by this 37; I'd be deeply shocked if their mechanisms let you down. On another note as your Diesel collection grows I'm hoping to see Bachmann Diesels vs Hornby Diesels some day. Both happen to excel in this field; so should be a blast :D

Sam, One thing I have noticed about the factory weathering done on British locomotives is that they do not mask the glazing before application. This is very unrealistic in my opinion, and just plain lazy. I'm not sure how important clear windows are in England, but in the US it was essential to keep windows as clean as possible, especially on locomotives, huge safety issue. Even coach widows were/are cleaned regularly. I can't stand fogged-up windows. Love your reviews.

I know that the quality of the model wasn't up to what the review sample suggested that it would be, but I think that it could be a good idea to do a re-review, especially at that price. Hey Sam! You asked about good Bachmann diesels? Well there are Bachmann diesels in America, but here Bachmann is regarded mainly as a beginner's range, and some may say they are cheap and nasty. The lack full detail and the fronts of these locos make me cringe, but they still look interesting. Just wondered if you've ever considered a Bachmann USA diesel? Keep up the good vids Sam!

Hey Sam! A great model from Bachmann! It certainly blows the socks off the old Hornby model.... My dad has an old 90’s Hornby 37 in Large Logo Railfreight Grey Red Stripe livery.... Exceedingly basic compared to this new one from Bachmann! And the performance is great, reminds me of the performance we get in Japanese models!
So now we have a question for Bachmann: Why can’t they do this with their steam locos??!!
Is it my imagination, or is the interloper a Union Pacific U30C?

When I first saw this video, I thought, "Okay one lemon Bachmann locomotive review coming up." But midway through your introduction, it hit me that you did indeed dodged some bullets on some diesel reviews from Bachmann. Compared to the God awful steam locomotives your reviewed. This is definitely the best oo gauge locos you reviewed so far. I was kind of disappointed it didn't crack number one. But it cracked your top three which is fine and dandy with me. Obviously the Union Pacific ALCO C-628 is the odd one out.

I do love the 37. I was lucky enough to travel on a rugby special in Wales which was a 37plus mk2s. On the return journey there was a mk1 in the set so guess which I sat in. great stuff.
I've been planning to get a 37 and weighing up Bachmann and ViTrains so this video has been extremely useful. As a Southern modeller I can justify it as I saw one at Eastbourne when I lived there so there we go.
The bachhy class 45 is amazing, I have two, 45048 which was the Modelzone Exclusive as well as 45125 when they sold them off cheap, so I picked mine up for £50 new. I had to get the one that was in the display case as that was the last one. I thought they might have gotten the sound from a 1950s Peterbilt. It wasn't until I saw videos of Class 37s in operation that I learnt that those sounds weren't exaggerated.

    • @BattleshipOrion

That UP locomotive is an Alco c24(?), GE engines look way different, even the U-boats. GE has the radiator "wing" at the very back, unlike the Alco which never had such an identifying part. GE & EMD both have those "wings", the best way to tell a EMD from a GE is the position of that "Wing". EMD's "Wing" is more forward than GE's "Wing".
