- When I met this capybara there was an instant bond. We were so happy to see each other. Listen to the noises he made when I have him attention. It was a wonderful feeling of oneness and kindness.

Fun Fact about Capybaras: They are so relaxed that they literally do not care what you do around them or to them as long as you don't hurt them. You can often find them hanging out with predators like crocodiles or with small animals sitting on their backs and riding them. They also have a symbiotic relationship with birds as the capybaras will roll around in dirt and get insects all over them and the birds will land on them, eat the insects, and clean the capybara. Super cool rodents.
So basically Capybaras survives by befriending predators and chill with them?

While those giant bois are hella friendly, i don't think that they could provide us anything useful. We domesticated dogs and cats because those animals helped us to hunt other animals, protect cattle, kill unwanted critters, and so on. But I would totally love to have one of these capybaras as a pet

here in Argentina there are families with Capyabaras as domestic animals

Capybaras are so kind and gentle that they often act as nanny's to the other animals when they are taken in by an animal sanctuary. They give off an exceptionally Zen vibe. Not bad for a giant hamster. I love them!

Not to mention they can popcorn from excitement or happiness, like guinea pigs can - when a capybara popcorns though, it usually happens at a much slower pace ('cause of their bigger size)

Capybaras are basically giant Guinea pigs (they're in the same family as Guinea pigs called Caviidae). But unlike Guinea pigs, these guys love to swim! That's why their feet are partially webbed at 1:29, so they can paddle! So it's more like a giant Guinea pig with a touch of duck

@Ayanokouji Kiyotaka no, please don't. And please look very deeply in Guinea pig care. The can't go in hamster wheels or balls (even hammies shouldn't go in those balls) or be walked on a harness. They don't need multiple layers, just one very large layer and lots of hide houses and you NEED to get more then 1 or they with become extremely lonely and depressed. I have 2 beautiful piggies and I did like 6 months of research before I got them😂. I would reccomend looking at the channel little adventures because they give wonderful info on piggies and treat them extremely well.
@Ayanokouji Kiyotaka sorry to butt in but please listen to what the other person is saying. Putting a piggy in ANY hamster wheel or toy is very dangerous for them. They can easily break/bruise their backs.

Capybaras are intensely social, herd animals. They are very complex and sophisticated emotionally. They are also highly intelligent, at least as intelligent as the most intelligent dogs. ... Not many people have the time and commitment needed to have a pet capybara

It's a common trait of herbivores to lack intelligence, you don't need to try very hard to outsmart a plant. ( Unless your a insect in some cases...)
It also probably does not on many carnivore diets, but that is just massive speculation by someone who knows nothing about these guys.

I went to a zoo in Japan that had them. I was feeding the baby and the mom licked my other hand when I wasn’t looking. It was a little gross and scary because they have huge mouths, but they’re so friendly and not carnivorous. My friend said I was lucky to have that happen. 😂. Since it’s a nice memory, I agree with her.

I feel like the bigger an animal the more humble it becomes or something bc like smaller dogs tend to be a lot more aggressive than bigger dogs of what I assume to be because of their small stature and how they have to make up for it. yes, it looks so much like a giant guinea pig and it pretty much is one, too :)
the main differences:
capybaras are cuddly, guinea pigs hate to be touched.
capybaras bite and their teeth are nightmare inducing - the wounds are pretty bad. Guinea pigs on the other hand have very strong restraints to biting.
So you have one animal that does not mind being touched, but may take your finger off and one animal that hates to be touched by might resign to its fate.
