nobody made DSLR video footage look as good as you back in the 2000s. this is insane. so old but the GH1 holds up well. I had that cam for over 10 years and it's still great.
That was brilliant and beautiful. I'd never heard of the red one but from i can gather its a professional grade camera. It doesnt however disgrace the other two. In fact the panny looks a bit of a bargain. Anyway great video, very professional.
On the Canon and Lumix you need to use the same lens so we can fairly judge each cameras details. We geeks want to know ;-D Beautiful footage, the RedOne is amazing yet the Canon and Lumix do not look out of place at all!
@NixxerJixxerWixxer As a producer - You always use the right tools for the right job. SLRs have their uses and I've completed many projects using them but id take an epic, NEX FS 100 or an F3 over one any day. We only use SLRs on constrained budgets - and you can achieve MUCH more on the Pro cameras when using them to their fullest extent. A good DP and crew make a difference but if you use the wrong tools they can only do so much.
I'm with you on this one... To make Still Photography of Food Pictures or Product I use my Nikon D60 and for video the Panasonic HS 300 camcorder... customers don't want to go in a Hi-Budget... So they get what they pay for
Very good picture quality! I like Panasonic But very fast transitions between shots... the difference between picture quality becomes invisible. So it is good)
I know this is really ancient video, but I would just like to say you made all three cameras look excellent, and I really enjoyed this piece of cinematography. Crazy to think you can buy a GH1 for sub £70 in 2019.
@GeorgeMaier Actually it is part of it. The main thing that differentiates the Red from the others featured here is the ability to shoot RAW, over and under crank as well as a greater latitude. If you don't know what that means in a production environment in terms of flexibility and achieving a look - look it up. RAW = much more control in post.
@Artcam87 Red One has the rolling shutter problem too. It's not quite as bad as 5D's, but it's not far off and it can limit you on shots. Plugin out for After Effects and Nuke which corrects it. Every pro camera has its own strengths and limitations. You have to learn how to work around them. You do notice it when grading with 8-bit color on the 5D, so it's probably a better idea to get the picture close to how you want in the camera prior to compression. 5D can look stunning on the big screen.
The Panasonic holds its own pretty well, but when you say ultra prime lens, are you talking about a Zeiss one? Cos that's not much less than the RED ONE camera...
The Panasonic is obviously not on the same level as the others, but it holds it's own for these purposes. That is until you realize that it's $1100 and includes a kit lens. So as far as value it's a star. 5D shows up the Red imo considering it's half the price.
I dont think the video is intended to compare any resolution or compression, but the look of it, when u know what you are doing you can use any type of equipment and make look good. " it is not the Arrow, but the indian"
I see a lot of people making excuses for the red. its big and expensive enough to stand up for it self. all i can say is I won't be buying one any time soon but my gh1 is in the post
Why would you discuss which camera is the best if the winner is clearly decided by who is using it? I would like to add though that the 5D and the Lumix are consumer/prosumer level cameras, and they hold up quite nicely against an almost motion picture grade filmcamera. You get something like 85% functionality at 10% the price of the Red One.
Compressed internet video - not a good way to compare cameras from another. Red One will always be the best. Just think about it. Fixed cmos problems, 4K res and 12 bit vs aliasing, rolling shutter, HD res, 8 bit. Just look at these shots together in full res and then compare! But at the other hand are still cameras a pretty good low cost alternative. Good at low light. BTW Red's new MX sensor will now also do the job in low light situations!
get on board bro DSLR is the future, and there hardly used on a constrained budget unless your talking about a 550D. The amazing spiderman, the hobbit, the great gatsby to name a few 100 + million dollar films all shot on DSLR (RED EPIC).
isn't this test abit deceiving . All the cameras are using different lens. GH1 - ultraprime CINEMA lens Canon - canon L - ziess -SLR lens RED - Nikkor - SLR lens The prices and quality between the SLR and cinema lens are huge.
I read your message and it caught my attention, because it is the typical argument of Canon fans. A couple of years ago I made a production with a Canon 5D and we also had a panasonic GH1, really the material that I ended up using, was the GH1. The Canon did not win us at the end.

i think that all the shots look amazing , nice work
A very soulfull video and very proffessional amazing cutting. I like this piece! It's a real masterpiece!

Great video by the way ;)
I own the GH1, i LOVE it. simply amazing.

Canon 7d vs Panasonic GH1?? Video wise and also as a all around camera, who would win??
fantastic !!!!

Can you tell me the name and information of the actress in this video?
I see a lot of people making excuses for the red. its big and expensive enough to stand up for it self. all i can say is I won't be buying one any time soon but my gh1 is in the post
@sbusumacinta Many people already can't tell 720 from 1080, and some of them can't even differentiate standard def!
I'd love to see these compared to the Epic's 6k capture.

What picture style was used on the GH1 and was it hacked?
Thanks
Ian MacDougall I don't think so, see the date of the video, in that days it was just the camera settings, no magic lantern or something
Fink - This is the thing

Whos the lead girl in this?
anyone know the song?
@ben6fingers hahahahaha well said mate, my 5d mk2 and a gh1 are on their way.
i'll third this: SONG!!!???
If you've never heard of the Red One then you should not be looking at this video or discussing anything technical on this page.

@cosnovitz Haha I did the same thing.
Red one win
No one ever uses a DSLR as an A cam. Let's be real now.
really?
1 Lumix
2 Canon
3 Red
