It really is mate, the orange and grapefruit really lift it. I called it a French lavender, P&B call it an English lavender. It's definitely lavender though.
@Artisan shaver I’ve discovered that the excellent Proraso range is “accidentally vegan” though not marketed as such. Good to see these vegan soaps available though. I’ll have to get some. 👍🏼
Hi Mark- Great shave and soap review; thank you! This sounds like a nice scent profile for the soap. The razor seemed liked a nice performer. I hope you have a great weekend ahead. Definitely a relaxing one. Be safe and be well. Best regards, as always, my friend!
Thanks for watching, Mike. I hope you're doing well. The hot weather took it's time but we are finally baking. It's lovely. Enjoy your weekend buddy. I hope you get your feet up and take it easy. Be well mate.
Nice shave with a low cost razor. Really does make me wonder why people but cartridges. Each to their own I suppose. Enjoy the weekend with the long awaited sunshine.
Oh my goodness, Roy. It's boiling 🤩 Yes, I wonder the same although, when I was a young man although there were still a few safety razors available in my local shop, cartridges were the mainstay. As a youngster, I thought a safety razor was so old fashioned. So my first razor was a Wilkinson Sword Profile cartridge razor with a red handle.
Hi Bradley. I hope you are all well, my friend. We are doing okay and my Mam is so much better, thank you. I feel like I have got my old Mam back again. All the very mate. I bet it is very hot in your part of the world. We hit 30C yesterday, in the shade. That is very hot for the UK.
Thanks Will. It really is a nice brush. Some of the other brushes PAA make look very nice but I have a feeling the have a large base. I shall have to have a look, armed with a ruler, this weekend. Take it easy mate.
Hi Mark. That was a really enjoyable shave to watch. Of course when I shave I don't have to talk to a camera as well. I appreciate doing that must require some practice. Your relaxing conversational style reminded me of 'the old days' sitting in a barbershop waiting your turn. Often the barber would engage the whole waiting room in his homespun philosophy or political views. Many a time the problems of the country have been put right in the time it takes to do a 'short back and sides'. Anyway, good to see you using a bog standard Gillette razor and getting some impressive results from it. I had often wondered how good those cheap 7 o'clock razors were. Seemingly not too bad. Also, very interesting to hear about American vs British shave brushes from the past. I had no idea there was such a big difference in the quality. Thanks for the video and have a great weekend mate!
Hi David. Thank you very much. You are right about the old barbers; I used to go and see a fellow that, over the years, had picked up so much information about a wide range of topics that he seemed to be a genius. Perhaps he was. He certainly kept us engaged and entertained, whether he was busy or if you were the only one in. He was a really nice fellow. Enjoy the weather mate. Take care.
I love those PAA brushes. I recently got the Green Ray and it is fabulous. Magically seems to hold as much lather as the Atomic Rocket. I’ve been eyeing that solar flare for awhile too but now I have to look at Heritage Collection 😱😄
HI, Mark. When you mentioned that Tatra blades are Czech in origin, I recalled that this is where Astras were made before a Russian company took over the brand. Some may think this a mere historical footnote, but it's always seemed to me that the Czech DNA accounted for the Astras' superb qualities, and it's nice to see a Czech blade making it back into the limelight. The Czechs' manufacturing know-how stood out long before, and kept up all the way through, the Cold War. Sorry to be so late to the post. Cheers.
Hi Warren. I had forgotten about that - I'm sure you are right and yet it is my believe, maybe mistakenly, that Eastern bloc countries were not well renowned for quality products. The story on the Muhle website about their factory being nationalised was quite interesting.
Hadn't known Muhle had even been in the GDR. Well, that accounts for the R41. :) But as for the Czechs, they were the exception to the rule you cite. Manufacturing became a huge part of their economy following the breakup of Austria-Hungary. I'll be interested in what folks have to say about the Tatra.
Have not tried any P&B soaps yet, the lather looks really good and those smaller pucks are a good idea, might actually get to use one up. I have one of those Gillette razors still unused in it's package that I think is made in China (only Chinese writing on it) but same design with plastic handle as the 7o'clock ones. Keep safe Mark.
The free International shipping might be quite good for those overseas; the cost of postage over here is outrageous these days. It's interesting that yours only has the Chinese writing. They are not solely made in India then. Perhaps they are not made in India at all. Cheers mate.
Cheers for the video. I've recently 'invested' a fiver in the Gillette 7 O'clock Sterling and while it does feel very light/cheap it shaves really well and would make an ideal travel razor as it's light and mild so there's no need to worry about packing pre-shave oil, aftershave balm, alum, etc. I usually do 2 passes and it gives me a DFS but I'm wondering if a third pass could get me BBS still with no irritation - need to try. I still probably prefer my EJ 3one6 for this type of head but it's marginal the final shave result is the same.
Hi. That was a decent investment for £5. It does make an ideal travel razor and gives an easy trouble free shave. What more could you want. Thanks for watching, my friend.
Hi Mark, I hope I didn't miss you mention it, but are you in possession of a Gillette tech, and can you compare the shave off the 7 o'clock to it? Because it lock so similar to a early tech, I wonder if Gillette just transported the machines to India and continue the production. It would be great for people who want to try tech shaves.
Hi Alx. I borrowed the 7 o'clock razor and unfortunately have returned it to it's owner. It was a good idea to do a comparison shave and if I ever have one in the den again, I will do that. I do like mt Gillette Heavy or Fat Handled Tech. There are a lot of variations of the Tech over the years. I think it the razor Gillette's produced the most of. What would you say 1940's through 1970's - perhaps longer with these new 7 o'clocks.
@@FriendshipShaving hi Mark, now I'm the happy owner of a tech a the sterling. And I can say, the sterling is very close to the tech in its shaving, next to identical.
Hi Mark, looks like a comfortable shave.I like the lavender scent which reminds me that I haven’t used it for a while. Interesting thoughts on vintage brushes. In general I have the feeling that the variety of shavegear made in Europe was and still is limited. I wonder what‘s the reason behind. Due to shipping costs ans taxes buying from US is getting quite often expensive for us in the rest of the world. Have a nice weekend mate.
You are exactly right, Sven. Postage is expensive both ways, these days. It would be nice for all companies to have free postage but then the custums tax would probably go up 😉 Enjoy the sunshine buddy. All the best to you all.
yes love that brush paa do a few that are homage to the old style brushes . see nice shave off a basic but effective razor and they don’t break the bank . i think vegan soaps have come a long way i am quite happy to use one they do a fine job now days . and that one looks a good one .
Hi Paul. I have another PAA brush, The Starcraft - I think, I'd like to swap sometime as the base is just a bit big for my hand. I'm in two minds about it. They do great brushes at the best prices outside of China. Vegan soaps are superb now. It always used to be that people preferred the performance of a Tallow soap - not so much these days. Cheers.
A. I have the Rapira branded version of the Gillette '7 O'clock Sterling Safety Razor and approximately 6 weeks ago I acquired the British Slim Twist ( J 2000 or how you termed it) Razor. I can say with absolute certainty the handles are IDENTICAL right down to the number of vertical groove lines running the length of the handle and the unfinished opening at the bottom. B. As for your dislike of a prominent Branding Logo on Contemporary items but acceptance and/or liking of them on Vintage item; I'd say you are not alone in this but such thinking is probably not predominate. I think it is classified as an "Idiosyncratic" way of thinking and that tends to be based more on the eccentricities of an individual rather than a collective way of thinking by a large number of people...Just ruminating out loud. ;-)
Ruminate away, my friend. Some of the things I like about the branding, and information, on old brushes are the fact that they are vintage and provide a visible reference to firms that might no longer exist. The term 'set in rubber' appeals as a historical point of reference to the material. Somehow 'set in epoxy' doesn't match up. I'm sure it is somewhat idiosyncratic. Interesting. Thanks for the information about the Rapira and 7 'o clock razors. They must be made in the same place then.
Hi Eddie. That's a good question and, in the name of research, I went to the den for a half and half comparison of the razors (seriously). It was handy I needed a shave. The Sterling shave is very close to the Rockwell on setting 2. I couldn't really tell them apart but perhaps the Rockwell was minutely smoother. 👍
@@FriendshipShaving thanks Mark that might help people with sensitive skin if its like plate 2 on 6c 7 0clock sounds like a good razor ! Keep up good work
Lovely looking Shine and texture to the soap, smashing price as well.
Hey Paul. Yes, there is that! 😮 Add on the postage etc., and it does get a touch expensive. Harrod's might be cheaper 😀 I hope your keeping well mate.
Nice shave with that razor Mark. Wishing you many blessings sir.
Thank you, Chris. You take care now. Love to your family.
That does sound a really lovely lavender scent, Mark!
It really is mate, the orange and grapefruit really lift it. I called it a French lavender, P&B call it an English lavender. It's definitely lavender though.
Vegan shave soaps can be hit and miss in my experience but P&B are always a safe bet and no surprise to see they have produced a quality soap.
It's a very nice one, Doug. I've been quite fortunate in that I have not tried many vegan soap but I have had some good ones. Cheers mate.
Nice shave Mark! That's a nice option to get a smaller size soap and at a good price for you guys in the UK 🇬🇧 👍
Have a good weekend!

Thanks Steve. All the best mate.
Fantastic shave, Mark.
Hope you and mum have a great weekend.
Thanks Lee, you too!
I really love the old American brushes, too. Heritage Collection really do make stunningly beautiful recreations.
I totally agree, they are very beautiful.
great video mark, always on the lookout for new vegan soaps, thanks :)

I am 100% with you on the visible branding. For some reason it looks iconic on old brushes but just tacky most of the time on newer brushes.
That is exactly it Lee. Iconic versus tacky. One day Yaqi will be iconic - maybe not, eh 😉
