@Rutgers Today Though saxophone does have a nice sound, clarinet has a different and unique sound that I believe fits rhapsody in blue better. As well as that, clarinets can glissando at the beginning.
who owns the white, golden Keyed plastic sax Ornette Coleman played in "The shape of Jazz to come" that I could see at 0:51 (that's it?) and the transparent_plastic Charles Parker played in Washington? Congratulations!
I saw another curved sap sax but I can't recall who'd made it. Guess since he's since passed I can say, it belonged to Mr Marshal Ripps. Is this the same one I saw back then in Victoria BC? I once worked on an F sax, not Tiny's.. I do remember asking him about it and he called it a Metso Alto. That was by CG Conn. I recall him saying back then the thought it more of a symphonic instrument, hence in F and others in C. When the military got into saxophones, the all went Eflat and Bflat except of course C melodies more for dance bands. Anyone know if that little curved honey was Tiny Ripps horn? And how common are the F ones?
Thank you for sharing all those precious information about the saxophone. Really beautiful video. By the way the largest saxophone collection in the world is owned by Attilio Berti in Italy…
I’m pretty sure Rhassan Roland Kirk used to play that horn which looks like a straight-ish tenor with a cup thingy where the bell would be. Great video, thanks for posting.
I love the saxophone! I’ve been playing this instrument ever since I was in 6th grade. I still play now in high school, and I will continue to play for a really long time. I play the alto saxophone in marching band, and I play both the alto and tenor saxophone in concert band. I tried playing a little bit of the baritone saxophone when I was in middle school, but it was too heavy for me. I just stick to playing alto and tenor saxophone in school. My old marching band friend played the baritone saxophone in marching band before he graduated high school in 2019. I really want to try out the soprano saxophone because that instrument looks like a golden clarinet kind of. My high school band room doesn’t have one sadly though. One of my friends at school has his own soprano saxophone that he uses for jazz band which is super cool. The saxophone wasn’t actually the first instrument I learned because I played the drums before saxophone. I joined the school band in 4th grade at the age of 10 to play the drums. I play both the drums and saxophone, but I would stick to playing the saxophone in school because they’re a lot of drummers in my high school band. I would love to have a giant saxophone collection like he does because that would be really cool! I would has different types of saxophones and they would be different colors. It is awesome that he has the biggest saxophone collection in the world! I have these saxophones in my collection: Gold alto saxophone Teal alto saxophone Gold tenor saxophone Gold baritone saxophone

There’s always a curved soprano sax.
Michael Hdz you can get a piccolo saxophone
there are other brands that make curved sopraninos. try rampone & cazzani
I heard that Orsi still makes curved sopranino saxes in Italy.

Him: I have 200 in my collection
Me: nEveR mInD tHeN

This guy must be rich
In this economy
I'm sure he's a professional musician and collector who can refurbish old saxes for money
i think he just doesn’t have a wife or kids to spend money on
YEAH
Yeah, you don’t have to be rich to have this kind of an interest. You can have a limited amount of money and still focus it in this particular area.
this collection is really amazing! thanks for sharing!!!!
Where do you get your reeds for the rare ones?
Garrett Ring he probably makes them himself
maddie wants to die maybe
The curved sopranino used mass produced reeds
You can make blanks and cut them to the size you want
Most likely the hey are hand made by him
凄いサックスの数…

Biggest Collection in the World? Maybe in 2016. Today the biggest collection is in Italy - Museo del Saxofono. I'm looking forward to visit it.
