@@BMWFanatic Ok...just hit 148k on my 2009 E92 N54. Rear turbo disintegrated and I've always changed my oil and babied the turbos. Bought Vargas Stage 1 Turbos for $1300 and installed those, oil pan gasket, and also had to replace my high pressure fuel pump ($700 from FCP Euro). Had to replace fuel injectors with index 12s 2 years ago. Put in 3rd radiator last year. Replaced coolant reservoir once about 2 years ago. Replaced Valve cover gasket at 80k miles. On my 4th battery. Replaced both turbo actuator valves. Replaced OFHG at 90k miles. I have a JB4 VERSION 2 Tune still with methanol injection (but hardly ever use either). I changed out my vacuum hoses three years ago. Also do all fluid maintenance on schedule. Hopefully I can get another 100k miles out of it now.
Another thing to consider beside mileage is time. A lot of these cars are 12 years old but only have 50 - 90K. They will have the same issues with hoses, gaskets etc, even if they haven't hit the 100k.
You are Awesome. Valve cover gasket replacement is a beast of a replacement (at least on my 2011 X3). Did oil filter and oil filter cooler gaskets alongside that last year. Hopefully won’t be doing that again. Saved a couple thousand in labor though and that was worth it for me. Budget 8+ hours rather than 2 for that if you haven’t done it before.
I don't think you realize how much time and money you save the N54 community. I wouldn't have purchased my 335i if your series of videos didn't convince me that these cars aren't hard to work on.
My first issue with my BMW at 101k miles is spark plugs and ignition cylinders misfire. Buy the parts from trust websites people! Auto shops and dealers will charge you a lot for parts. Plus buying your own parts feels good cuz you know what you're putting into your car. Now go to a trusted deal for labor.
My 2008 335i was a nightmare. Injectors, water pump, and HPFP all failed under 30K. My 2011 335i was much better, only major failure was the radiator, but it did last me almost 177K miles. I hope my 2018 340i is at least as reliable.
How’s the 340i? My old neighbor has one and we talk about it, he’s got the 2017 340i and has like 10k miles on the clock. Only had a sensor failure this far. How’s your experience?
Best way to prevent almost all of this or prolong life is to keep the oil changed! I do mine about every 3k just to be safe. Even at 3k the oil is dark and already saturated with many contaminants.
Just flushed my brake fluid today, that would be a good video DIY. Have 88k on my 2008 and never had a problem yet and i have now been tuned FBO for 5k running E40. I have done all of the preventative maintenance except replacing the valve cover but did replace the gasket. Great advise, it definately helps to keep it going strong and keeps money in your pocket. 2008 335i JB4 + MHD
i didnt really know how bad the maintenance was before i bought it, i had a car that required little to no attention and not sure i prefer having a monthly mortgage payment going out for my new to me car..
My old trusty 2007 328i has 176k and I never had to change the O2 sensors I use marvel mistery oil here and there. I haven’t even chance the valve cover gasket, soon I will.
My 2011 328i just turned 170000 just starter and batterie still runs great smooth as can be wouldn't ripple a glass of water, no joke I'm going for 30000🤞
Would you consider doing a DIY on the oil filter housing gasket? Seems like a fairly common maintenance item, but not a lot of good tutorials out there.
This really isn't much different than long term maintenance on any turbo car. Looking forward to picking up a 335i. Problem is I want a white convertible sport package manual if they even exist lol. Prob gonna have to go cross country for it
So I am in dilemma, I know someone from a friend that has 2008 335i coupe in mint conditioned at just under 100k miles with M3 wheels (it looks beautiful), inspected by 2 master BMW technician with completely no issues at all. All major components replaced just before warranty ended like HPFP, twin turbos, injectors, coil packs, spark plugs, new coolant tank and few other things. This was all serviced by BMW private mechanic that took care of the same car for 6 years. The guy wanted a 7500 for the car. I took the car for a drive and everything was super smooth and no problem. The thing is I am not good enough to fix all the upcoming problems myself. The car was in such a good condition that I just wanted to get it since I feel like this chance might never come back. Do you think I should take it?
Where any gaskets replaced? Valve cover, oil filter/cooler(if equipped) and oil pan? Those all like to go out around the 100K range. Other that that, everything else is sounding good!
As far as I know, oil filter and cooler was replaced as well. I am not sure about the gasket but I am willing to learn to change that myself. Oil pan I have no idea. I think I want to be part of the BMW fanatic and buy the car since you have so many tips including insane cheap oil change video. Subbed :)
How come I haven’t seen you do pads and rotors yet? Quoted $1750 from dealer did it for $350 with upgraded parts. They also wanted $1900 for shocks and just picked up front and back bils for $550 from fcp. Need to also do valve cover and seals plus trans oil/cover/seals/shift solenoids. (No issue on the trans but it’s time)
I can get a bmw 328i coupe convertible for 5,500, it needs a valve cover gasket replacement and it’s mileage is 94k it has a small dent on its driver seat
Thanks for the info about what to change out at the 100K mile mark. Would you also recommend the oil pan gasket? I do know that they tend to fail as well. Have you had that problem? Keep up the awesome content!
I am new BMW owner & i am curious to know have you had any maintenance problems in between that 92k & 155k miles thats 5 years with no maintenance problems???
Love your posts. I have a e 90 and love her. In the process of doing the 150 k.things you recommend on my e60 2006. Both cars were 1 owner. Are there any other items I need to address? I have done new plugs. Oem on both cars e90 Bosh plug wires. Also needs and of cover and valve cover gasket replaced I have a small build up of oil in cylinder 5. In closing... I've done new water pumps and coolant and both vehicles I used all OEM everything is there anything I'm missing
Too late I got hit for $6000.00 just for the valve cover and vanos system. The valve cover leak took out the water pump housing (plastic) and the oil filter housing gasket.
I did a VCG replacement and I’m at 106k miles. I had the famous burnt oil smell and smoke coming out. I spotted the leak right on the exhaust pipe behind the right most bottom portion of the engine. After putting everything back together and ran the engine I got a engine malfunction check engine light saying reduce engine output. This frustrates me because prior to the job I didn’t have any lights on! What could this be?
I am looking to buy a BMW 2011 Z4 3.0i with only 12K miles on it. Are there major service repairs which would normally occur based on the years rather than high mileage? (Other than oil changes or filter replacements)
I just copped a 08 manual transmission 335i and this is my second one and this time around I have extra cash to add all the cool mods to make it go faster which is what I’d like to do but I was wondering if I should do all the things mentioned in this video first before adding mods . Does anyone have any advice or would like to share an opinion ? My car is currently almost near 100 k miles . Should I just wait for it to start acting up or do it ASAP ?
You are awesome! I have n52 platform but still your videos helped me so much thank you! that pedal up are you were talking about with the oil cooler that can also happen if a vanos seal leak happens! My vanos seals were leaking onto my belt and the belt was spraying the oil on to the top of the oil cooler on the n52. N52 cooler is similar to the n54 cooler. Fyi

Hello I’m new to your channel, very great content. Question. I just bought a certified used. 2007 335i with 85k mls. I doubt the transmission fluid has ever been changed. How often is that recommend? Other sources say it’s a lifetime fluid is that true? Thank you in advance.
Change the transmission fluid now, if you haven't already. "Lifetime" for BMW transmission means around 60k miles or 100k km.
Hi thank you for all of your videos, very helpful and when the belt tensioner video is coming? Also I want to know if there's a video for the master flow sensor??
