The advantage of WCing in the quarters is that you can avoid getting players in the last 16 where there is a clash between two big hitters. There could easily be Italy v France type games in which case you duck out but then wc in players from whoever gets through. It’s also odds on a weaker side will provide a shock out of the eight games so then you pile in on their opponents in the quarters. It’s also worth noting once it gets to the knockout stages is harder to get clean sheet points as 0-0’s go to extra time but the opposite is true for attacking players who have a chance of an extra 30 minutes to score.
You need to consider that the number of players you can have from one squad increases as the game goes on : Quarter Finals : 5 players Semi Finals : 6 players This coukd definitely be an advantage for those keeping the Wildcard for the latter stages.
Can look at it the other way and think do you want 5 players from 1 team in the quarters, you’re limiting the amount of points you can get going that heavy on one team. Say for example you have 2 defenders and 3 attackers from one team and then they lose 1-0, you’ve absolutely shafted yourself.
@Rigg96 of course it all depends which teams progress, but chances are that one or two "weaker" sides make it through. So for example if France came up against Switzerland in the quarters, I'd personally be going heavy on the French. There are many viable chips strategies, but for my team, I can comfortably play strong squads in MD1 and MD2 with free transfers alone, so keeping WC for the quarters has the most upside.
@@dg2911 Bad example as Switzerland knocked out France in the last Euros in round of 16 😂 I disagree about it having the most upside. Firstly in the group stage you can target all the good fixtures with the top players, this is likely where you’re gonna see a lot of the top players get braces or hat tricks. When you get into the quarters the games are gonna be tighter and against hard opposition. Then you take into account that there is a smaller pool of players to choose from. Even people whose not got a chip left for the quarters are gonna have majority of the top players, so there isn’t much to gain. The only way it benefits you if there is multiple major upsets in the round of 16 eg France, Portugal, Germany, England. If three of them go out in round of 16 then yeah you’ll get the advantage, but that’s highly unlikely.
@Rigg96 My predictions are based based on recent form/stats/player data as opposed to a h2h from 3 years ago. There's a risk/reward factor to either strategy, and if you're playing both chips in the Group stage, you're relying on zero upsets later on. There's no right on wrong at this stage....just the bragging rights of those who come out best at the end and claim their strategy was clearly a no brainer. Much like the fpl debates of when to bench boost or free hit, someone always comes out on top.
One advantage of a chip in knockouts, is that if 2 big teams face eachother in the round of 16 (and you avoid those players), it's easier to pick up players from the team going through in QF
it is a good team, but with most of these players having a good chance of performing well in MD2, I would consider using the 2 transfers to improve the team (maybe target 2 Croatians who play Albania) and keep the wildcard for MD5
I believe you should think about using the unlimited in matchday 2 so that when this round is finished it could turn out that your matchday 1 side with 2 transfers is perfectly adequate for matchday 3, and you could delay your wildcard for a later round. ALL the best.
that is possible but also very risky as there could be heavy rotation for MD3....you could end up with 5 or 6 players not starting. I would prefer building a team which 85% good for MD1 and MD2. the other 15% will be specific to MD1 (probably 2 italians who play albania) and I will rotate them for MD2 using my 2 transfers, probably targeting the Croatia v Albania game, or another game with a big goal potential. And that keeps my Wildcard for MD5.
@@fpl_mcfred1 I'm just responding to what Ed says around 18:50 in the vid where he says he is hoping to avoid using a chip in MD2 but is concerned about the fixtures his keepers have. I don't think he has realised that he can only play one of the keepers, so it will force him to either use one of his transfers, accept that he only has one keeper option that week or pushes him into playing the chip.

Lunin and Verbruggen both play on the 21st for Matchday 2 so you are effectively giving yourself only one keeper that gameweek.
Myb he will use cheap or trade after gw1…
He literally says he's going to wildcard in MD2
@@fpl_mcfred1 He still has 2 subs after gw…

@@neilcoombes3111 fair enough, that's a good point
Can you do 2 substitutions and then play the limitless card saving the new changes for matchday 3 when it goes back tit eh original team?
My dillema is: Trossard, Wirtz, Jorginho VS Gundogan, Eriksen, Calhanoglu ? Any ideas which trio is better? I am using all my chips on group stage
What is your stand on double/triple up in attack? Enough goals for all?
will the changes in the value of players take place every match day? is it stated by how much and in what point ranges?
Hey guys, Szoboszlai or Jorginho for captain today ?
Seems that the fanteam game is restricted and not available globally 😢
Good luck 🤞
Thanks again Ed , afternoon of the start with Scotland 🏴 already, to shock the Germans 👍 Thanks again 👍
Just moved to a new address, don't have an up to date photo ID. No Fan Team for me :(
why cancelo and fernandes on the bench?
18:18 tf he said.....
that won’t be your bench order will it?
Bench order doesn't matter, you sub in players in any order
mbappe may be injured do you take a chance. mmmmmmm
What happened to Pickford being a "no brainer"?
I changed my chip strategy.
MD1 my Captain G.SUDAKOV😌
You realise in MD1 you can potentially have 5 different captains ?
