Karen's brother is Richard and he was the magic behind the Karen's voice with his song writing and arrangements. His gift musically equalled and complimented Karen's vocals. It's like he knew exactly what songs would be the best fit for his sister.

One of my favorites of Karen's. This is probably the most haunting song the Carpenters ever did. Having said that it is
also very beautiful giving who is singing it. Her brother's name is Richard.

So beautiful. Every time I listen to the Carpenters it breaks my heart. So sad no one could save that sweet girl.

What made Karen so great was that you as the listener could feel that she LIVED these songs, and that's sad, but it made her the queen of this genre, and Richard's arrangements always made her sound even better. I really miss her.

I think this song and This Masquerade are the two songs that really showcase every level of Karen's voice. I have others that are my favorites but these two songs really do show what a stunning voice and range she had. Thankful for the short time we had her and the music that she left us. Also, Richard never gets enough credit for his arrangements and song selections besides his own musical and singing talents, but it took both Richard and Karen for the magic. Karen did some music that Richard did not produce and it did not have the same sparkle.

What a beautiful voice and who can’t relate to this song at some point in their lives? Karen was a treasure and Richard was the arranger. An all time duo. ✌️🙏❤️

I don’t remember this song by the Carpenters. I grew up listening to them, I have a deep alto voice and I could sing with Karen. Thank you for introducing me to a new favorite, and introducing them to a new generation. They deserve to be remembered.

I have an alto/tenor voice, too. I always loved singing with Karen because I couldn't reach a lot of the high notes the sopranos sang.

Her drumming is often overlooked. She reportedly thought of herself as a drummer who sings rather than a singer who drums. Being able to do both so well is a feat duplicated by very few. That voice is the reason for a boyhood crush on my part.

she was a once in two lifetimes VOCALIST STORYTELLER not just a great singer, a skill (storytelling) that 99% of singers today utterly forget to do.. ULTIMATE singer who sang TO the listener NOT AT them... add in her phrasing, intonation, perfect diction and enunciation, perfect pitch and tone and you have in my opinion the greatest female voice of love and romance songs ever. Looking for love, finding love and losing love..

  • @helokopter924

Great reaction. Im on my late 60s, so remember KC very well on the radio and TV specials. Amazing, but predictable how 99% of You Tube reactions are similar to yours. They were most successful in early/mid1970s when she received 4 grammys. She began, with her brother Richard, by playing drums. Recognized by 1975 Playboy poll as rock drummer of the year. KC's voice, especially contralto, was the best female voice - ever. No auto-tune, gimmicks, or screaming. Her studio nickname was 'one take', since she always sang a song once in studio without a single re-take. She sang to you with mesmerizing emotion, perfect pitch and enunciation. Her voice made you listen to her. She had no professional voice training. John Lennon told her at an LA restaurant that she had a lovely voice. Every female harmony in all of her songs was hers as well, sang, then dubbed into the song by Richard. She never knew true love, nor how good she really was. KC was a one of a kind female vocalist with the voice of an angel. She was never happy with way she looked. She had a few friends, one was Dionne Warwick. She had serious onset of anorexia in 1975 that continued the rest of her life. She died Feb 1983 at 32yo due to complications from anorexia.

She had a golden voice. We know what she's doing in heaven, she doesn't just sing "like" an angel.
I got to listen to her for years, The Carpenters came at the right for me, my "musically informative" years. I was 24 when she died.
She was as beautiful as her voice. Brother Richard.

I'd highly recommend "Now" as it was the last song she ever recorded in April of 1982. It's a stunning song in general, but made even more so when you learn that what you hear her doing is a one-off "throw away" scratch vocal only meant to help the musicians lay their parts down, then she would come back later and put the 'real' lead vocal on it. She never got the chance to, but it's absolutely perfect as is. Side note, Elvis' live drummer Ron Tutt plays drums on it (he's the reason I ever started playing) and he's in the video. The recording of this song was re-enacted by Cynthia Gibb as Karen in the TV movie "The Karen Carpenter Story" near the end of it.

Karen's brother's name is Richard. They went to UCLA taking music and that's where they honed their craft. An amazing voice and amazing drummer. I was sick the day she passed away from a heart attack due to passed issues with eating disorders. Karen was on her way back to health when she passed away.

Whereas Karen was the voice of the Carpenters, Richard was the music. He is an incredible musician and arranger. When Christmas comes around again, listen to his instrumental version of "O Holy Night". It is on the Portraits album. I have been listening to this song since the album first came out, and it still amazes me! I love Karen's voice too!

Check "Now" from 1982, the last recording Karen made; and also some of the too-few standards Carpenters recorded (eg. When I Fall In Love, Little Girl Blue, I Can Dream Can't I)...

Karen's brothers name is Richard. Karen worked so hard on a solo album, which was blocked from being released by her brother for years. It was eventually released but years after her death. I always thought he was jealous of his sisters talent? Even now, after all these years, when anybody mentions The Carpenters or plays their music, our first thoughts are for Karen's beautiful voice. Thank you for choosing this, it always makes me cry and is among my favourites, along with Yesterday Once More, Rainy Days And Mondays, Goodbye To Love, There’s A Kind of Hush and (They Long to Be) Close to You.... and so many more! We've heard, and will hear in the future, many great voices but there will never be another Karen Carpenter. Sending hugs from a rainy Scotland x

    • @evadwall
      @evadwall 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Not exactly. While Richard wasn't necessarily pleased with the results, he had no final say if or when it would be released. A&M Records executives made the final decision and Karen went along with it. In fact, Richard included a couple of the song on a Carpenters anthology album some years later.
