    HOPEFULLY mine arrives in a couple of days. CANNOT wait to see the screen and put the watch to work.
    I'm downsizing from my current 6XPro Solar and looking forward to seeing what the difference in screen size is like.
    I've only had the 51mm Fenix's so hope I'm not disappointed.
    Good video boys.

    Thanks for the great reviews on the Fenix 7 / Epix 2 / Apple Watch 7. I'm a cyclist, not a runner, so I think with my Garmin Edge on the drop bars the Epix 2 will be more than I ever need. There is this one question left that I have to make my decision final; how much time does it take to fully charge the Epix 2. And is there some type of fast charging available like 30 minutes of charging gives you an other 8 hours of battery. That would make the Epix 2 come even closer to being the perfect watch. Thanks again!

    • @ijustzeke
      @ijustzeke 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I charge my watch using a GaN charger from Anker that's around 60W. So it will max out whatever the max charging capability of the watch. I usually just charge my watch for 20 mins - 30 mins and I get tons of battery out of those minutes... I'm speaking like days.

  • @MattLeech
    @MattLeech 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    During ultras I'm usually using turn-by-turn navigation. When you discuss using maps with regards to battery life (e.g. multi-band + always-on = 15hrs), are you also using turn-by-turn navigation? Something else to keep in mind is that battery life will deteriorate with age, so in twelve months time maybe the Epix will no longer last the ultra distance.

    • @Yielar1
      @Yielar1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I ran ultras I'd be getting the Fenix 7 with Solar but since I don't I'm going with the Epix 2

    • @30mattdavies
      @30mattdavies 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dc rainmaker has given a better explanation than I could on why this is unfounded. It’s in the comments on one of his recent uploads. The fenix suffers from degradation too. All battery rechargeable tech does

    • @MattLeech
      @MattLeech 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@30mattdavies Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure why you think my statement is unfounded, it's well understood that batteries deteriorate with age. It could be that you're referring to my comment "maybe the Epix will no longer last the distance"? If so, I don't think this is unfounded either; when my Fenix 6X Pro (not Solar) was new, Garmin's claim for a GPS activity from a full charge was 60 hours, but an ultra I ran at the time using GPS and navigation took 15 hours and the watch finished with 9% charge (I remember this because the non-6X runners I was with either had to turn off their GPS or had their batteries die, and at the end of the race they were asking about my watch). Turn-by-turn navigation obviously uses additional power. I've ordered a 7X, I'm definitely not risking a smaller battery for the sake of a shiny sparkly thing.

    Calling this a Fenix with an AMOLED screen is a gross oversimplification. For example the epix can not load other maps (marine etc) that the Fenix 5/6/7 can. Can mislead buyers to get this, thinking only difference is the screen and battery life.

      It can be useful for SUP on new lakes , running out to snorkel sites on the waverunner in the ocean (like the keys), kayaking inland or open water. Navigation in Mangrove areas, etc. I understand I might be in the minority but you can install them on the Fenix, Descent, D2, MARQ, why not epix? Other maps like Pacific Crest Trail detailed maps, Boundary Waters detail for a canoe trip. Garmin has a ton of specialty maps that are useful, just not on the epix…

    Why does nobody mention that there are problems with the watch(epix2/fenix7)?
    If you look in the forum you will see countless posts about individual software problems.
    A lot of random reboots, poor swimtracking, wrong altitude and wrong sleeptracking, map details missing, screen goes off and a lot of other bugs. Even with the latest update there are a lot of bugs. This watch is around 1000$ - i want it to run smoothly and not super bugy. A lot of youtubers are reviewing this watch but no one mentions those bugs - why ? Just have a look at the garmin forum and you will see what i mean. Hope this helps people to get a other point of view.

But, Garmin is inching towards the prices you pay for a high quality quartz or medium mechanical watch. Those are not trackers, granted. great review but sadly, even tho I really want this fab screen, I don't think the battery life will last for my ultras using turn-by-turn nav and music and being a slow runner. I do have a question tho. Re the wrist-based heart rate monitor - if you have a small wrist are you likely to get a more accurate reading with a smaller watch? Does fit have anything to do with it? I bought the Fenix 6 X and returned it coz the HRM was just mental and the pace monitoring was useless when doing track work. Thought maybe for the Fenix 7 I should get the middle size watch. What do you guys think? Thanks

    Nice watch, but well, a Fenix 6 Pro plus an iWatch (or other OLED smartwatch) are still cheaper. Not jumping. For outdoors/maps/navigation a smartphone is better, for vitals an Oura ring is better, for running or working out with a chest strap even a FR 245 or 745 is enough (no optical HR sensor is good for me, with HIIT or otherwise). Practicalities are not really justifying the Epix 2, the looks/price are (given the features). When the days of love are gone, it's just a watch, not even a nice mechanical one, waiting for the new versions to replace it. I think it might be quickly price-adjusted as soon as it faces some competition, which I am sure it will. Still, nice work Garmin, setting the bar for that.

    Thank you for the review. I'm fairly new to the whole Garmin ecosystem, having purchased a Vivoactive 4 in October to help me with weight loss and being more active.
