@@HeadStrongElite Excerpt from Sonny's old blog · · · People are probably wondering who the song "Emily" is about. Is it about Jon Weisberg's girlfriend or my ex girlfriend? Lets clear this shit up right now. First off, it wasn't written by Jon and it wasn't written by just myself either. It was written by the both of us. At the time, we were both dating girls named Emily and we thought what better way to show our emotions and feelings to them than to write a song. So that's what we did. Jon and his girlfriend are still together. But Emily and I split up a long time ago. We actually met on the internet on Myspace. One of her friends had gotten her into liking our band after showing her our old Myspace. She sent us a message and I had gotten back to her on my own personal account and added her to my friends list. After that, there were a few trips to Rouge and what not when I had free time. We however, split up because I'm not good at long distance relationships. I cheated on her when I was on Warped with my band. I told her what had happened because I didn't want to lie. Honesty means a lot to me. Awesome revamp of this song.. Sometimes bands come back and they're just terrible, but not this.. I would even say the song is much better now.. 10/10 -ign
I think Sonny wrote the lyrics to all of their earlier songs, since he was the primary singer. So it gives the music more soul, since he would be enthusiastic with singing using his own words. I can't clarify that since I don't have any of the CDs, but I think that's usually the case with all bands.
Damn, I'm excited for the rest of the album now, definitely picking it up. I saw the cd at work, not knowing they had a new singer. It was cool of them to redo some of their earlier songs.
The original wasn't any more emotional than this version. Sonny couldn't stop his voice from cracking every other line and it made him sound like he was crying. Spencer is miles ahead of Sonny vocally.
Spencers a better singer than Sonny ever was, in a traditional sense, I don't think there's any grounds for argument there. But I don't think Sonny was trying to be that anyway so it'd be a doubly pointless argument. That's what's always been great about "emo" and "screamo" and punk/metal/rock music and all its subgenres anyway, you don't always have to be a great singer, you just gotta have something meaningful to fucking say.
Cory Miller meh, they're both really different, so it's not really fair to compare them. it's all about preference really. as a non bias person in this situation, i grew up listening to this song in 2004, so i perfer the original, but this new one sounds great.

If that were the case every genre would call for the same singers that win American Idol competitions, or sing in theatre/opera. Punk is about expression and emotion. If you can get that across I could a fuck about your vocal range or vibrato. And Sonny did that way better than Spencer does, especially evident on this song.
Spencer no doubt has a better range, but Sonny had greater highs for sure. Cleaner highs. And taht's saying something because spencer has a nasty high range. The highs fit their old sound. Spencer barely pulls it off, as far as the old sound that is. I think overall it's an improvement, but that's just my opinion.

When they sing the part "note to self I miss you terribly..." it used to sound very cool with the difference in voice between Matt and Sony, but with Spenver they sound pretty much the same lol
This version in all respects is the superior track. All talent in the band has been polished with years of experience, spencer is a much better vocalist than sonny, etc. the only thing that even puts them on par is your sentimental value to the original. Other than that, you'd be blind and deaf to even consider the original better than this.
I grew up listening to FFTL. Saw them several times at warp tour and other shows. I stopped following them after Sonny had to stop singing. First time hearing Spencer. He's really good. There's no replacing Sony though
Stop comparing this new man to Sonny. I am just glad they picked someone who kept the vibe Sonny did, and revitalized their older hits. Both are amazing for From First To Last. Don't be a bunch of dicks just because you're behind a screen. This band is back at the point Sonny had them at. I love it. Sonny is gone, he moved on. Whatever makes him happy. But From First To Last needed dead trees. They are back to their prime. Just with a new lead
If someone took sonnys vocals and dubbed them on top of this version of the music it would basically be like when an anime character reveals its final form.

This is definitely not post hardcore this is some other slightly similar kind of stuff mixed with metalcore
Its a great cd and the singer sounds great, just quit hating and write an album instead.

If someone took sonnys vocals and dubbed them on top of this version of the music it would basically be like when an anime character reveals its final form.
