very interesting, i didnt know anything about it more than i know someone who used waveguide slot antennas for ATV on 10ghz or so seems easy to design your beam wide with slots, thats make this antenna interesting much!
Thanks Andrew, you know your a McNeil fan when you see copper wire on the ground and pocket it for building something neat. :o) We can still buy feric chloride here so maybe a marker masked etched panel would be neat to make. In the 80's they phazed out metal and wood shop here, I remember a ditzy girl taking her thumb almost off in a bandsaw once. That was the nail in the coffin for co-ed shop class. Too many distractions with the girls around LOL! I am glad the UK had proper manufacturing classes in 50-60's since my BSA shows the creativity that Brits can have, when not in a pub at lunch in Birmingham of old..

The old BSA factory should have been made into a museum and protected by the heritage foundation. They produced such a diverse array of products for the UK and the world it was far more important than any castle from 1066. But that's just me. :-)
andrew mcneil Yup, BSA motorcycles are one of the true gems us colonial outposts got from those castle dwellers. LOL! More thumbs up from Indian cab drivers than anyone else on my 441 BSA. The Rocket3 is too much a blur. :o) I have upgraded most the Lucas stuff but their zenor diodes and rectifiers are very durable.
andrew mcneil The narrow beam seems to be 90 deg from what you have said: if you were to make six slots on the horizontal direction you would have a narrower beam on the vertical direction.
You should use a high thermal mass iron (I prefer the hakko horseshoe tip) for soldering large things, because the well allows you to apply a lot of solder quickly with high heat. Acid flux works really well, just flux the solder bar and seam.
could you not use a mustard tin which is actually quite small and should be easy to cut a hole for the socket and is easily soldered and might be a good idea to use the old style bin lid as a reflector don't know about the length of the supports to mount the feed unit at the focus of the bin lid.
would it be more powerful i you had a longer one with more holes? or holes in all directions? Or does it weaken it when there is more holes? You make it sound like as if this is more powerful than your other antennas in the range it can get. What would be your longest range antenna?
+xwsx001 The power remains constant. It only depends on your transmitter. The area that power is spread over (the beam width) increases with more slots. This was explained in the video.
well meaning when compared with another long range wifi antenna can this beat it if they both has to target one source? If not which one is better for long range single source?

would etching the slots on a pcb work just as well? would be easier and tidier and then could be a sealed unit
