  • For the last episode of For The Love Of Kitchens season 2 we take on the challenge of designing a totally moody and elegant kitchen for Liz and Dan’s Manhattan apartment. As you can probably tell from the beautiful mood board, this is a good one.

Love this show. So creative. The styles are quite unique. It's so relaxing watching this how they make everything themselves.

What would you do if you live in a beautiful old building with high ceilings and the kitchen has ochre coloured hexagon tiles. I am not gonna remove the flooring. I have not figured out what color kitchen will go with that floor color! It’s a yellow/orange ochre floor color.

Hello, wow it sounds like a great starting point. Colour is so subjective we'd always suggest getting some colour samples and seeing what works in the space. Lighting can completely change how a colour looks so it's always best to test it in the room if you can. No projects with yellow floors come to mind but we've done lots of projects with terracotta tiles. Deep greens, off-whites and greys all go really well with terracotta. You can see all our favourite projects on our website - devol.ltd/KitchenInspiration. If you're looking for a kitchen, our design team would be really happy to help - usa.enquiries@devolkitchens.com

@@deVOL.Kitchens thanks! I will add that the ochre floors also have a dark red border tile around them…reminiscent of refectory red. Would you maybe go for dark red cabinets then?

We have Refectory Red cupboards and warm mellow yellow walls in our New York showroom and they look great together! You can see photos here - devol.ltd/BondStreetShaker

Hi deVol, single young mum from North London. Wanting to renovate my rental kitchen with open shelving with only base cabinets drawn by linen curtains. Do you have any suggestions to complete this on a budget❤

Hello, oh this sounds lovely. We'd always recommend checking out second hand pieces to try and save some money and add character. Linen curtains are a great idea as you can create something really beautiful with a simple rail and some old fabric. Best of luck, it sounds very exciting!

@@deVOL.Kitchens thank you for your response, when it comes to second hand pieces to try and build a free standing kitchen. What would you search on Vinterior/FB marketplace to find free standing pieces?

@@rsrs-cw1jh We like to go to antiques fairs and often visit our local one in Newark as it has fascinating pieces and you can examine them in person, but you can pick up some great bargains on things like Facebook Marketplace and eBay.
