    .......#1 Swiss Army with saw , #2 4-5inch Leuku , #3 7 or 8 inch Leuku or 8 - 10 inch Khukri .....love bellies , cut/ chop well ! Grizz 🐻 great video !

      Very good choices Grizz. SAK's are great probably the best choice for a folding knife expecially as you have other tools. I find the awl super useful and the saws are great expecially the slightly longer ones. I have never used a khukri. So often thought about getting one. Another heavy duty stick tang tool that I should have mentioned along with Bill hooks. Thank you for sharing your choices.

      I think I would probably make different choices every day 😂. I even changed my mind during the video (did you notice it was the Marttiini folder on the thumbnail not the Mora). DBK is a great channel, very funny but also very informative. They really know their stuff.

    Thanks for this interesting and thought provoking video. Assuming I had no axe, my choice would be a small to medium kukri, + a 7 inch Leuku, teamed up with a 140 MM puukko. As you say, most leuku and puukko blades are made by the same firm, so there is not much to choose between them. Folders have their place, but not in serious outdoor situations.

    Terava 140, Hultafors OK4 and a Mora 2000 (and the OK4 is a luxury). Nothing larger needed nor anything smaller. Food, wood working, one pocket-sized and one a proper tough beater to get the fire going...that's 90% of my knife needs right there plus the three combined don't come to much more than a hundred euro. You got some nice looking knives there mate, that Joker is a looker for sure.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good choices, the Joker is a really good looking knife. They seem to be making some very good stuff nowadays.. Mora 2000 is a great knife. Not used mine in a very long time, which is a shame.
      All of yours scandi grind I notice (except for the tip of the 2000).

    DBK guys are crazy and hilarious! I love their test videos though. I feel like I've done this before idk when it comes to knives lol. Leather sheath with a dangler loop(agree with ya on that), jimpin, decent size, full tang and a good steel that can take a beating. Wood or micarta handles preferably on a fixed blade knife, probly 4.5" long blade and handle. Choiled up area to get a good grip is nice too for me cause of sweaty hand syndrome haha.
    That big knife looks nice mate!! Nice collection Tim, I need more fixed blades in mine. I got one of those BPS knives coming, supposedly lil beasts. A joker maybe later on. Hard to say for folders as I have so darn many now, the ontario rat 1 is really growing on me(video coming soon I promise lol). Ahhh there is Uni! Hello to Uni!

      Looking forward to seeing how the BPs (is that right, I wanted to write BPM 😂) looks.
      Does it have jimping? You might have to get busy with the dremel.

      @@KuukkeliBushcraft Lol at Uni, Beas does that stuff too if she sees me talking to the camera haha. Jelousy I think lol
      I think the model I got has jimpin on it yes, there are a few I have I wish had jimpin though and dont(in my collection). Im afraid to ruin something if I mess with it and no idea what grinding attachment to use or how to even do that lol. I saw an awesome ontario rat 3 fixed blade on sale today in a local store(needed neoprene boots Im sick of wet soggy feet crossing the stream lol back at camp) for 50 bucks man!! Leather sheath, I had to walk away before I spent more than I went in there for...talk about dam temptations mate lol

    Hi , love the videos and enjoy the information content , I'm not a fan of traditional wood and leather just for the sake of it , my favourite knives are eg ,
    Gerber US 1 .
    Gerber Principle bushcraft.
    And if I had a third it would probably be the Tops bushcraft survival knife.
    Thanks.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There can be issues with both wood and leather with damp and splitting with the wood so there is a lot to be said for synthetic materials. Not so familiar with either Tops or Gerber knives to be honest (except for seeing them on TH-cam all of the time). I saw Gerber have some really nice looking scandi grind knives come out recently. Might get myself one of those.
      Thanks for sharing your choices and for watching the video.

    sturdiness is dependent on the steel not just the tang,and how the knife is made,how they harden the steel,do they stamp the blade do they coldgrind them do they create stress in the steel,seen very thick blades snap in half,seen thick knives bend,seen tangs snap where the holes are drilled for the handle,a sturdy partial tang or sticktang should hold fine same with skeleton tangs if they are done right,full tangs are nice but it gets heavy.only way to find out if a knifge is sturdy is to use it,also helps to google the brand name with the keyword fail,some brands fail more then others.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I should definitely have said something about the steel and heat treatment. I actually did a little but I mostly talked about 80CRV2 and it wasn't very good (the footage not the steel). Great advice about googleing the brand and the word fail.
      Thanks for watching and for the comment.

    Just found this channel and going back through the older videos. Tim, do you still have your Marttiini Lynx Lumberjack? If so how has it held up. I'm considering getting one for a general camp knife. I've used Marttiini fillet knives for decades and really like them. Enjoying your channel.

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Scott, glad to hear that you are enjoying the channel. Still got the lumberjack and also got the black lumberjack that I have had for about 10 years. Pretty standard Finnish puukos really. Very functional, easy to maintain edge. The stainless ones have a rather soft steel though. I did break the tip of the one in the video but probably my fault more than the knives. In general pretty good knives and good value for money.

    So if you was to grab one knife for survival which one would you go for.
    If you only had to chose 1

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For survival? Jääkäripuukko I think, strikes me as being pretty robust. Maybe a leuku if I can't have an axe. If my life depended on it it wouldn't necessarily be what I would choose for a camping trip. Robustness would be vital. The problem is knowing how robust a knife is without pushing it beyond it's limits which is something I have only really done with knives that are poorly constructed and by accident or a lot of wear.

    You got me thinking, my three knives:
    - Bark River JX6
    - Fällkniven F1
    - Sacki Neckknife
    I own, but rarely use large knives, I prefer medium (

    • @KuukkeliBushcraft
      @KuukkeliBushcraft  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never heard of Sacki before. Just looked them up. Seems like all of the videos on TH-cam are in German 😢. Looks like a really nice neck knife though. Never owned anything by Bark River or Fallkniven but both companies have an excellent reputation. I also generally prefer an axe over a big knife and a saw helps immensely too.
