But why Winnie the Pooh? Turns out, the Chinese government abhors the cartoon character. To put it in context, it began in 2013 when Xi Jinping made an official visit to the United States (US). There he was snapped with then US President Barack Obama.
One of the pictures of the two walking together went viral with several bloggers pointing out that Xi Jinping looked similar to the popular cartoon character in the photograph.
The picture reminded many of a scene from Winnie The Pooh cartoon series featuring Winne himself and the Tigger. It goes without saying that Tigger was Obama and Winnie was Jinping.

Your videos seem very sincere, but the problem is that sincere videos don't necessarily have depth. I was very impressed with one of your videos that described "It's okay to criticize the government in China", and my assessment of that episode was that it was "superficial". China's high-speed rail is fast, its traditional culture is wonderful, we knew them,and the content you filmed is actually very popular and not very controversial.
You are always confused why you are criticized for being part of Chinese political propaganda, because your content is the same as the propaganda. It might be unfair to say that, but it's hard for foreign youtubers not to be criticized if they can't produce more in-depth content in China.

I think the thing about the Internet is that it gives everyone a voice - it enables people like you to share your opinions, and it also gives people that disagree with you to have a voice too, that's just a reality that we all have to live with, for better or for worse.
I know that there are people out there that have a personal issue with you guys and what you are doing and with your content, but at the end of the day, if you believe in your message, and are staying true to yourself, then that is all that matters. It is sometimes a bit disappointing that on social media it seems like there is little room for proper dialogue these days... a lot of people go straight to personal attacks, or are obviously trying to discredit those that they don't agree with... But I think that at the end of the day, we can all just agree to disagree and go on with our lives.
If there comes a day when everyone can come together and communicate respectfully about differences, then that would be great! But in the meantime, labels that other people place on you shouldn't matter. I've realized that it is extremely difficult to make everybody happy. On Chinese social media, I also experience people who personally have something against me... I am sure you are familiar with the term "財富密碼“, which I have been called hundreds of times - but at the end of the day, I'm just going to keep doing what I am doing, and as long as I can sleep well at night and don't have any regrets about what I have done, then I think that is all that counts.
Just stay true to yourself, and do things that you feel proud of - regardless of what you do in life, there are always going to be people that think that you could have done it differently or better... Lots of backseat drivers!

I don’t like the term white monkey. I’ve heard people doing gigs where they pose for a photo shaking hands for a ‘fake business deal’, I mean isn’t that just advertising? Every businesses does advertising if they can afford it and if they can afford more they’ll hire models or actors. Why is that called doing white monkey jobs...
Because they were brain washed so hard that they had now hard coded stereotype of China. This stereotype is ingrained so deeply that they don’t even realize that their statements are blatantly double standard.
Agree, as what Matt and Lee said, doing something which is normal outside China, Western medias just put a negative view on it if you do it in China. For instance, a normal advertisement in China, reporters would call it propaganda. Foreign ambassadors of China would be called as shills by the media. I have used to their double standards for so long 😌
The difference is that advertising you will know it is advertising, you know they are actors. But for those fake employees or experts, other people don’t know they are actors, people assume that they really work with Chinese companies. I don’t like it personally, marketing fine, you want to have a good image fine but not lying to other people, there is fine line in between.
@@EH-pe2sv Well first of all advertising is not necessary a lie to audience. It is just a way of broadcasting an object to audience. In fact, in this case what the influencers are doing is just truthfully reporting their experience. Another bizarre aspect of this issue is that when the exactly same thing happens outside China, when people are not explicitly informed before hand that this is potentially advertising, people are very acceptable and tolerant to this form of advertising, in contrast to their harsh criticism to the same thing when take place in China.

Basically their argument is: if you cover China you must not skip critical aspects like poverty, democracy deficits etc. And indeed from a real journalist you should expect this. But you are 'just' youtubers with a respectable community and in your output you add some classical influencer marketing pieces. If I hold them (serprentza, etc) to the same standards I would ask them (operating from the US right now) where is your coverage of the unacceptable poverty in one of the richest countries in the world. The deficits in infrastructure, the rise of pure propaganda news outlets on the right...
