@@mithramusic5909 Orion doesn't rattle. You're just mad it wasn't bigger and are a crybaby. I'd hate to see how you handle driving on a freshly-paved road if Orion makes you scream in pain while millions of children and families can handle it no problem.
It's also possible that maintence is at least partially a factor in the roughness. Maintence at a lot of parks has been slipping post Covid, so perhaps some of the newer B&Ms haven't been maintained as reliably as B&M's older coasters.
Great video! I rode Pipeline Surf Coaster a few months after opening in 2023 and it was smooth and exciting. I rode it again this year (2024) and it had become noticeably rougher than I remembered. Same seat each time
From an economic standpoint, B&M used to price their coasters highly. I wonder if the coasters pricing, a number of higher profile parks already having one or more B&Ms, and the direction of the economy caused B&M to pivot to cheaper coasters with lower build quality.
It’s mind boggling that Talon and Hydra are about to be 25 and 20 years old respectively, yet both are smooth as silk. Meanwhile, Iron Menace just opened and shakes you the entire time.
Hydra was rough in its opening two years. Hydra is actually the first time I noticed this. Maybe they've fixed something in the last couple years, since I haven't been to Dorney in a while
I first noticed this with Hydra at Dorney Park. Banshee has had a bad rattle since about it's second or third year, not just the last two years. I noticed it again with Orion right in its opening year.
With ki being our home park as well, my wife said she wouldn't ride banshee again after her last experience. Very chattery in the valleys like you said. I really feel you should propose this as a video idea for Ryan the Ride Mechanic. It's obviously a wheels contacting the track issue and he may be able to not only give us more insight into why it's happening, but maybe as to how they can fix it.
I think this might be something with the trains, I ride Baron 1898 a lot. most rides are really smooth be there have been a few that have been kind of rough for such a small ride. but most are fine. I often sit at the edge seats and those are fine too. but I do feel like intamin, new gen vekoma and rmc have surpassed them now. I'm so glad vekoma is back and Intamin seems to finally get their stuff together so apart from this year itself. its a good time to be a coaster fan
I have ridden dr diabolical probably a dozen times, and rode iron menace a few times this past weekend. I have only had rides on dr diabolical with roughness in the last row on the ends. Iron menace is rough everywhere except the front row center. Rode front row far left side and it makes every seat on dr diabolical seem glass smooth in comparison.
Another important issue not in the video is the fact that B&M does not make very many family coasters, and when they do, it's expensive. Considering how the coaster industry is atm, that's not a good thing
I’ve always been a big B&M fan, but the past couple of years I’ve ridden quite a few coasters of theirs with a rattle…some very uncomfortable. They never seemed to have any issues outside of the stand up models….but just this year I’ve had rough rides on Kumba, Apollo’s Chariot, Flight Deck, Thunder Striker, Alpengeist, Hulk, and Penguin Trek… So some of the older ones are getting a rattle…but the newer ones like Banshee, Pipeline, Penguin Trek, Phoenix Rising, Iron Menace, Dr Diabolical, the new Hulk, etc should not be having these issues. I don’t get what changed…but they’ve been failing out of my faves lately…and when it comes to the Sea World/United parks, I’m actually beginning to hope they get away from using B&M if this is what we’re going to get. I wanna see a giga at Busch in Tampa, but not from B&M if they can’t figure out what’s going on.
You also forgot about Penguin Treck. For being a FAMILY coaster that isn't that intense, fast, or anything that shouldn't put stress on the track, it was pretty shaky. Granted, I was in the second row where it should of been pretty smooth, but it was really disappointing when I came off after that bad rattle.
Bro this will negatively impact the amusement industry as a whole if B&Ms keep having this negative reputation parks aren't gonna opt for their attractions and usually B&Ms are a tried and true coaster type that'll always be successful and it makes me sad that it slowly isn't the case anymore and then parks won't buy B&Ms and I love B&Ms they're smooth, reliable, fun, not intense but who cares it's a freaking coaster have fun on it for Pete's sake I really hope they can fix this cause B&M is in my top 3 for favorite manufacturers behind Intamin and RMC
Ah yes, the ol' "B&M rattle"...a trademark feature. They all have it, or will eventually. I just avoid coasters that have OTSRs to spare my ears. Banshee is smoothest in the front of the train. Teal train is currently the roughest (but all three shake a lot).
I was at Alton towers and it was March 25th and their reborn ride (nemesis reborn) an inverted rollercoaster i went on the front row and it was very smooth but next ride I went row 8 and their was a very noticable rattle and a bit of headbang so I totally agree
I have an idea. I think at this point, B&M should INTAMIN should merge together to save one each other’s lives. Maybe they could bring back Giovanola from the dead in a sense?
I agree! I went to kings island for the first time this summer and unfortunately I don’t think I was feeling very well to begin with and I rode diamondback in row 16 and I ended up not riding any other coasters that day. But I did ride mystic and soapbox racers before it though so I got 3 credits in total that day! Fury 325 has a rattle in the middle of row 5-6 which is usually the rows I get assigned to which leads to me having to take a long break before riding anything else. I really hope B&M can get back to the smooth and reliable rides like Intimidator and AfterBurn! And fury in the back 2 rows.
BM's are far from smooth..Iron Menace was rough out the box, that ending is brutal.Even fury has a shake on the outside seats. The inverts are rough .Valravn at Cp at the bottom if the 2nd dive is bad in the back row, instant headache bad
I 100% agree. Iron Menace was such a letdown in terms of smoothness. Everything was bad except for the drop and it was even rougher than their 100 year old woodie next door
I believe that B&M have started using a harder tire compound on their trains. This might accentuate some of the imperfections in the track. also any sort of track imperfection aren't necessarily B&M's fault as they contract a company (Clermont steel fabricators) to manufacture this track and I doubt B&M incorporate roughness into their rides as a feature...
I think B&M has many chances to get it together and im a B&M fanboy and im not happy with there new additions they still get more Hypers and Wing coasters to make so they better get it together
Is it possible that this is more a problem with the smaller dive coasters? The banshee thing, it's getting older, and from my experience if you ride in the first half of the train it's perfectly re-ridable. The other two you mention are both "mini" dive coasters iirc. I think you are being a bit broad here. You say "coaster built in the last 10 years" but only give 2 real examples. They've built a whole lot of coasters in the last ten years but it's only these two I've ever really heard any complaints about, and this is the only time I've heard anything bad about Dr. Diabolical.
