Thanks Matt. My daughter gave me this book for Christmas as well as FFF Fly Pattern Encyclopedia. I really like the QRC codes that link you to his videos. I like that he is trying to stretch your skills. I think each fly featured will enable you to do other similar flies with the same materials.

I'm with you there James! My first tying book was a beginner's book from Orvis in the 1980s. Sitting at my mom's kitchen table learning to tie an Adams. Oh boy, those first flies were scary. :-)

But sometimes I can't help but feel jealous when I see other channels out there, who have below average content, and haven't made a video in nine months, and they still get more subscribers every month than I do! I am glad you said what you did. I really liked the book, but great photography makes the very complex patterns look way simpler than they are. I was getting frustrated, and I have been tying off and on for probably 30 years. I am glad I was not the only one that felt that way.

Great review man. It's funny, I actually found your channel through Barry's. One of your videos was a suggested video, while I was watching some of his. Definitely glad I clicked the link. Love your tying tutorials. Very easy for me to follow along, especially since I've only been tying for a couple months.

Definitely love the way you look at things. Nice book and the pictures are awesome the scan code thing to videos is a smart thing, I like.it but I'm to new to fly tying should go to a more experienced fly tying tier. Keep it Tying.
Thanks Pablo. Keep tying and you'll be there before you know it. But DO watch his channel, just don't get discouraged when you tie one of his patterns and it's not as nice as his. Not many people can tie one as nice as what he does. :-)

I agree, a lot of Berry's patterns are difficult, fir advanced tiers. I tie for five years and my Humpy still doesn't look good... But his channel /Book are very good and more for traditional patterns, like your channel (no Perdigons in all variations)
Thank you my friend! I tried a humpy last year, after about three terrible flies, I gave up. I should take my own advice and keep trying it until I get one right. :-)
Oh yeah, Kelly is an amazing tier. I always thought he leaned more toward the big meaty streamer patterns, which I don't tie or fish that often. I'll have to check him out again. Thanks for the note Gary!
Kelly's flies are top notch and he has done a great job advancing large streamer patterns .However, his videos are very thorough but with a bit too much dialogue for the content.
Ben- yep, I agree. Great content in his videos, but it is indeed a time commitment. Same with Josh Varner, who ties a lot of Kelly's flies, and does great, but you have to be ready to spend 30+ minutes watching!

only been fly tying from april of 2020 so very new to it and fly fishing getting things together over this time.....hope for a better 2021

I’m torn between the feather benders book, the one I told you about, or the fly tying for beginners 50 flies book.
If you're still pretty new to tying, my first recommendation is usually Dave Hughes Essential Trout Flies.
