Wow. Well done. Even though I have brown eyes, I suddenly realize that "blue" is not referring to color but to sadness. This is the best version of this I have ever heard ... and it stopped me in my tracks.
Quite an unknown fact - my dad actually was the man 'Behind Blue Eyes'!! The Who came to Brighton many years ago and stayed with my dad and his housemate, who was their 'minder'. They started writing it there and then having met my dad - ex-military, lost his family and was trying to build his life again from scratch as a bouncer. He still has the most piercing blue eyes, and incredible tales and stories.
Story checks out, however there is no guarantee that it was your dad specifically. I don't want to call you a liar, but it is a fact anyone can google.
Not true. The song was writen as a part of "Lifehouse" project, a failed rock opera which Townshend was writting after "Tommy". The song is about the villiain of the story, i dont quite remember the story but i'm pretty sure that your story is a lie
@pieter5237 cool story bro.... you weren't there though were you, so how could you know. Maybe it was written with that in mind too...and I mean they were probably under the influence of many substances, but ultimately my dad's experience directly with them, and was it being written about him.
@@vickymcdonald3167 but that's exactly what Townshend said. He never mentioned anything about it being written about an ex-military. And the only (known) person which had any influence on this song is Meher Baba, Pete's spiritual leader at the time. Also i've seen far too many fake stories in yt comments under a song from people trying to get attention. So unless Townshend confirms it, i wont belive that. Not saying that your story is definitely fake but there must be some proof outside of your father's story. Roger Daltrey was definitely not taking drugs and drinking big amounts of alcohol so he would remember if they met your dad. (I think he's really a hero. To get back to normal life after losing family must be incredibly tough)
Amazing voice. So many "artists" today feel like they have to do all of the vocal acrobatics and show off their voice. Finally, someone who actually SINGS a song the way it is written and still makes it her own! Absolutely beautiful!
@@patrickperry8951 He's also a giant douche but I won't really disagree. I was at summer sanitarium when that whiny assclown got booed off stage but he did do behind blue eyes well.
i have been around long enough to know the WHO version and later on the LIMP BIZKIT version, the original was good and the remake was a good modern version but you nailed it, never change your style, that accent of yours makes it so unique and in my opinion its the best version ever, keep up the good work...
I agree whole heartedly I have too been around for both and you nailed it throughly and with pin point precision keep up the great work and never stop being you
This song always reminds me of my oldest son. He connected to this song to show me how he felt years ago. I haven't spoken to him in 7 years. You did a great job expressing the loneliness, the harshness, the despair. And yes he does have blue eyes.
Thats because the people only remember the legends. In every year of music history, there were crap - rly rly bad music. Best excample: The 80s. I am am musician and working with instruments the last 20 years and keep smiling when the people say "oooh i am such an 80s fan, such great music, its amazing" - actual, sure i could name 200 great songs by name everybody knows and thinks its a legendary track. But i could also show u dozens of lists, with an hilarious amount of Vinyl releases who re absolutly crap. And the crap was dominating the 80s. The today known "80s" were born in the 90s by looking back and only naming the "Hits". But these re not rly the feeling u had in the 80s.
I love how your accent comes out in your songs. 99% if the time when people sing their accent is hidden. Definitely one of the best covers I’ve ever heard! Keep up the good work Janet!!!
@Big Cat Little Lion I think covering 'Everybody Hurts' - singing the lyrics would be a good mental health activity for Janet because there is hope in that song. If there's one thing we all need.. is hope.
Loved you since your 1st audition on TV, dear Janet. And now, years and years and years later, your voice still makes me shiver. Sending you love ... T.
You are my favorite singer now. There’s something in your voice, your tone quality, your phrasing I don’t know, it seems the music remembers what I don’t. You are amazing. Very few singers elicit this emotional response.
I’ve heard this song countless times. I lost my kids 10years ago to a foul person. They came back to me this year. This cover made so much sense to me. Thank you.
You meet people 50% or more with the love you give, you deserve that much or more back!! Carry that Celtic cross high!! You are the perfect example of what pure Irish beauty and kindness is!! I and we wish you only good health.!
2019 calling the 2016 Janet Devlin: Dont lose your voice, dont ever lose the core that is you...because U are awesome! Cheers and alot of love and care from good ol´ Sweden!!
Your gift is to be able to sing any song and make it as if it's the first time that I have heard it. Your clarity and richness enhances the lyrics and the story of any song you sing. I have never commented on an artist in my life, but I hope you realize how much of gift you have received and that you find your place in this crazy world.
Never get sick of you voice sister much ❤️ you Accent rocks my world Old blood, I’m Australian you see and the Irish sound in your voice touches somthing so deep in my soul like my forefathers are calling me home
Why on earth would anyone give this a thumbs down? She's lovely, sings beautifully, and it all comes straight from her heart. Geeze people, give the world a break.
It sounds beautiful (though personally I like a tiny bit of sliding on the notes rather than each being perfectly tuned). I miss the middle section though, for me emotionally that's the heart of the song. And if I shiver, please give me a blanket / Keep me warm, let me wear your coat. Missing that, and putting in another verse, was for me the worst crime of the Limp Bizkit version. But to each his / her own :)
It's the Limp Bizkit version ,that's why. I'm pissed off. What a let down NOT to hear the great lyrics in the middle section. It's extra special when a Female sings it.
She has the perfect voice to make this song both beautiful and unique. Would not work for every song but with this song the fact she didnt just cover but made it her own, a little like the Laura crowe cover of SOAD - Areials.
Been following you since your audition year's ago, so glad that over the years you've stuck to singing how you want to sing and not conforming to what's popular, you have a very soothing singing voice.
Holy hell... the vocal talent, the beauty with which she sings it, the lack of song-ruining vocal acrobatics. The everything else. (edit) My ears thank you so
Such "true feelings" you have Janet. Your voice. Words cannot describe. At the end, you are just a Child. "May God stay close to you forever. Amen." Thank-you for sharing.
I have been a fan of the Who for many many years. This cover , in my humble opinion, is the best I have heard. I felt the song thru your voice very powerful and hypnotic at the same time. All that from such a light and beautiful voice. I truly hope you never give up on your dream, such a beautiful voice and a beautiful woman. I wish you only success and happiness.
When my fist clenches, crack it open Before I use it and lose my cool When I smile, tell me some bad news Before I laugh and act like a fool And if I swallow anything evil Put your finger down my throat And if I shiver, please give me a blanket Keep me warm, let me wear your coat Without this its a Limp Biskit cover not a Who cover imo good version though
I agree. I have listened to the Who since late 60s. This is the purest cover yet. I am deeply moved and wish the Who's version could have been more like this one because I believe it was wrecked once the full band comes in after the solo intro. Thanks for doing this cover. I bid you peace.
Meh, u say that cus shes hot. I thought it lacked emotion. Pete hid his sexuality because he would have been a pariah. I doubt this girl has ever been told "no" in her entire, short, little life. No offense, but pretty people, especially, young, advantaged women, not only have people lining up to open doors for them, they dont even know the doors exist. Not saying its wrong, just that its been empirically proven.
Your voice is astonishing!!!!! You are an earthly angel... sent to us..... please don’t let the music industry change you, continue to be that shining star that you are✨🌟 ✨🌟✨simply BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
Janet, salute your spirit for being so inspirational. Stay Strong, healthy and just be yourself.Let the Time prove that you are one of the most soulful vocalist of the 21st Century to have ever lived.

and her voice adds so much poignancy to the lyrics
She's got her unique style
Fred Durst sang it the say it was supposed to be
She does have a good voice for singing, however, you say "a song the way it is written" yet she mixed and matched the lyrics.

I’m willing to bet The Who would absolutely love this cover.
the simplicity of her voice is what makes it so special
Janet, your voice and your eyes are mesmerizing.
please continue to sing from the heart as you do

45 years later and it is still an awesome melody.

I was thinking the same thing about her sweet accent ❤️
The surname, the accent, the red hair........I'm guessing Irish? Sweet!

You're right but that's how everyone found her. We didnt know her before then. X factor was a good thing for her. It gave her a fan base.
Would love to hear her sing REMs "Everybody Hurts "
yes, would be a perfect song for her
Would love to hear her rendition of that song. It fits with her song types and could soothe a lot of hurting souls.

As I listen, I feel a whole new meaning to this song. Janet has the ability to do this to many of the songs she sings.
Awesome is the only to describe it...Janet has sung it the way it was...close to 50 years and still so strong...
So haunting
Jesus! How rare is it that a cover blows away an original?
