Even with this new info, trying to shiny hunt 4 eevee, I found that it was easier and quicker to just do the 31 combo and fly over with max lure active and shiny charm. It takes too long to keep catching and finding the next eevee. Old method has lower odds but is still quicker at least in my experience getting 4 eevees
It's a fair point. Once you catch 100 of any species you get the catch bonus which makes them easier to catch. At that point it goes much faster. But in the case of eevee it has a ton of spawn points so you can see 4 or 5 at a time so I agree that's very fast rather than catching them. I caught all my shiny eevee that way and it didn't take me that long at all.
I would say it highly depends on the rarity of your hunted Pokemon. For example i needed 300 catched squirtles for the shiny one and luckily with already knowing the real mechanism. When we consider that there is just one Sauirtle to spawn at the grass simultaneously than the continued catching combo is the way to go for rare spawns. For Pokes where 4/5 appear at the same the occupy method is better I guess.
What are the odds with lure but no shiny charm with the door method with having a 31+ combo capture ? I can't have a shiny charm now, are the odds 1/1300 (I read that information on Reddit)
You can get this info from Serebii. That is the best place to get official shiny odds for any Pokémon game. Just Google pokemon let's go shiny odds and select the result that is at the Serebii website.
I have horrible luck. A few years back tried for a shiny Charmander and got to a chain of 245 before it broke. Never saw a single shiny. Then started trying again recently and I'm sitting at a combo of 288 and still no shiny Charmander.
So... If I chain Spearow, only the next Spearow spawn will have the good odds? I've chained Pokemon in the past to get other shinies. Like I chained Pidgey to 31 and got a shiny Bulbasaur, followed by another chain of 31 and got a shiny Metapod. Was it just luck?
This is the exact same question I asked when I first heard about this. The short answer is yes it was just luck. But remember those spawns are not full odds, just because they don't have the good good odds. Factor in shiny charm and lure effect I believe. And your odds in this game improve dramatically because the shiny appears in the overworld which means you're constantly shiny checking a lot of pokemon. If you had to encounter them to see if shiny this game would be garbage. Anyway yeah it was just luck. I did the same method you're describing for literally my entire shiny living dex series with over 250 shiny catches along the way. The game is just a lucky game do to other mechanics like the overworld shiny spawns.
you do have the good odds. it only applies to the next one that spawns of the species you are comboing. So if you caught number 399 Venonat then the next Venonat that spawned had the good odds, and if you caught that one then the next one that spawned has the good odds. But if two spawn, only one has the good odds.
The door method and combo method do not crossover. The main reason why is after you catch a Pokémon the next one will automatically spawn. The door isn't necessary. Now if you do hit the door, we don't know if that has any effect on the next spawn. It might, it might not. So with no way to know the best bet is to avoid the door. Now if you do want to do the door method then you only need to get an 11 combo because the Porygon that spawns will have about 1/1000 odds which is the best you can achieve without continuing the combo. It's tricky because there's things we still don't know. Best bet is do the 11 combo and hit the door, or continue the combo and keep it going until shiny.
I don’t want to believe this! :( so what are the odds if you stop at 31 outside the next consecutive Pokémon? Is this true than for the entire odds up to 31 if someone would decide to stop at a combo # lower than 31?
The odds are 1 in 1024 assuming you have lure enabled and shiny charm. Serebii has the odds for catch combo bonus below 31 combo. Combo 11-20 is 1/585, combo 21-30 is 1/372.
@@I-Bet-You-Didnt-Know you get a tangible reward with a catch bonus that activates around 100 or so catches. this is vital for hard to catch pokemon like snorlax so the shiny doesn't run when you finally do get it. worth considering at least
9:29 run animation. If I save the game when a shiny appears and if it escapes I soft reset for have a second chance? I will have the shiny back? Or no?
I'm currently hunting in Let's Go in late 2023 first run of the game. Was told the shiny hunts were very fun from other hunters. Has been fun, but after hunting for three days for a blue duck decided to look more into the odds more and found this video. Application the info and update on such an old title. I'll pass this video to my shiny hunter community.
Thanks for the comment I really appreciate it. I wasn't even willing to believe this info when I first heard it because it went against what the previous data mines said. However the evidence speaks for itself when presented correctly. Thanks again ☺ 👌 💯
Only problem is that it consumes lots and lots of balls and depending on the Pokémon lures if you want to continue catch combo for always having highest odds but at least they aren’t that expensive in these games
Would it be better to do a constant catch combo past 31 for always having 1 in 300 whatever odds or to just get 11 to make more appear and get 1 in 4096? (no shiny charm since I just started) Got a shiny butterfree a few months ago just staying at combo of 31 but I just saw this.
It's hard to say. If there's a ton of spawns on screen like Butterfree then that would be fine because your odds are going up due to the many spawns on screen. However if you're hunting a single spawn like the Porygon in the video then your odds remain at 1/4096 because one spawn at a time. If there was 5 spawns you can see how that effects your odds dramatically because it's now 5/4096 which is like 1/800 or something like that. That's why this game is considered to have easy shiny spawns. Since you don't need to encounter to see the shiny then you're always shiny checking. Anyway I'd think of it like that.
I know its 2023 but i have a question... If the place where you are shiny hunting has like a house where you enter and you reset the spawns, when you come back the first one to spawn should have the higher odds right?
That is a tricky situation since we have no data. I wondered the same question. To me if you're doing the combo then keep doing the combo and don't use the doorway method. Because if you catch one in your combo, then the next one to spawn will have the higher odds. So there's no need to reset using the door anymore. We don't know for sure if you catch one for the combo then hit the door if the next one to spawn will have the best odds because there's no data for that scenario. So yeah I recommend to not use the door method if you're using the combo method. Combo method has the best odds. However if you're hunting something rare like the Porygon you could use the door method to avoid the time spent on the combo. However in my experience the combo wasn't that hard to obtain. I got a shiny using both methods and they took similar amount of time.
Ok but my question is, say I’m chaining Pidgey. If two or three pidgey spawn near-simultaneously in the area in hunting, and I can’t tell which appeared first, does it matter which one I catch, or do I have to catch them in the order they appear?
Good question. It doesn't matter which one you catch so don't fear. One of them has good odds and one doesn't. But you can catch either one and it will increase your chain count which makes the next one spawning get the good good odds. Hope that makes sense.
Im super late to this but i just got my own copy of pikachu. So the 31 combo strat is irrelevant now? Because i keep messing it up by accidentally running into a different pokemon. And ps i havent beat the game yet. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
If you run into a different Pokémon that does NOT affect your combo. This is a common misconception. You can run away from any Pokémon (including the species you are comboing) and it won't break your combo. This is helpful is a Pokémon is about to run away then you can run away first and preserve your combo. Every pokemon has a unique run animation that tells you it's about to run. If you see that animation then you need to run away immediately. The 31 combo is the best method to shiny hunt, the only difference from how we thought it worked is that you need to keep catching them. Don't stop at 31 combo, keep catching them. The door/ladder method is still really good the odds are about 1/1000 that way which is actually quite good. The 31+ combo is much better odds but acquiring the combo can be very time consuming like in this case with Porygon.
You can catch any spawn, doesn't have to be the next one that spawns. As long as the combo goes up the next one will have the good odds. This won't make sense for Porygon since only one can spawn at a time, but for other stuff it will.
so, only the common pokemon that spawn more than 1 we should keep the streak past 31? and on single spawns what does it mean or the chances of other pokemon spawning shiny? ex. i was at 31 for bulbasaur and have see 10 different pokemon become shiny and not the one im targeting
They all are different so you can do any part individually. Even if you have no charm the lure and combo will work. 118 catch combo is not a very large combo so don't worry just keep on going. The random chances can take forever to finally produce a shiny sometimes.
So just to clarify, we get the 1/274 odds (for the pokemon we are comboing) consecutively or is it just for the 31 combo next Pokémon that shows gets it.
Good question. Every time you catch a Pokémon with combo 31 or higher on that Pokémon, the next spawn of that species gets the bonus odds. Other species do not get it. And multiple spawns of that species won't get it. Only the next one that spawns after each catch. So when you get 32 combo the next one has bonus odds. Then when you get 33 combo the next one has bonus odds. It's just one at a time and not the other species.
@@JonnoPlays okay but im wondering if the species you are comboing is having multiple spawn at a time ? Do you catch one more and refresh the zone or just catch them all ? Because they already spawned and are out of the shiny luck but if you dont know wich was the actual spawn of increased shiny and refresh all of the other are out of the shiny luck ? I dont get it.
I'm doing a fresh run of this game on a different profile of my Switch and want to do a shiny run as i play so hopefully i don't go crazy. Trying to start w/ a Nidoran♂ and i don't know if my 3rd party joycons are great though i am out of practice w/ catching that way so doing the more reliable method for me and playing in handheld.
It takes memorization to get the motion down perfect. Handheld is easy mode for sure. Try extending your arm forward so your elbow unfolds and the controller makes a quarter turn towards the floor. Hard to explain but that's what I do anyway. Also make sure your controller isn't crooked it should be parallel to the floor.
It's possible you didn't notice the shiny but otherwise no. I had a few hundred combo on my Porygon. Just keep your eyes peeled and keep catching! Make sure you are in an area with high spawn rate. The more spawns on screen the better. You can also reset areas by running away and coming back if you want the spawns to clear out so new ones can take their place.
Currently on a 240+ Combo for Vulpix... still no shiny. I feel like im doing something wrong. I usually catch a vulpix and then go through the door to reset spawns, does the next vulpix that spawns after i reset spawns still get the boost and i am just unlucky?
There's no point to go through the door to reset the spawns especially after you caught vulpix. The thing we don't know is if you still get the catch bonus if you leave the area and return like what you're doing at the door. I would recommend to just catch vulpix and wait for the next one to spawn. It doesn't take that long and it guarantees you get the boosted odds since there's no way of actually knowing. Just forget about using the door basically. Catch vulpix and when the next one spawns catch it too. Best of luck I struggled with this logic greatly when I was doing my Porygon hunt so I know how you feel. It will shine eventually. But yeah stop using the door if you want the best odds just catch them
Ive been looking for shiny growlithe for a very long time catch streak almost 200 and going in and out of the same door on this video starting to feel like something is wrong :/
Going in and out of the door is your problem. There's no need to do that if you are doing combo. Keep catching them one at a time. Or do the door. But don't do both that's wasting time.
I noticed that you failed the porygon, but you only used one berry, is there a reason why you didn’t use another berry after it broke out of the pokeball? Once it breaks out, the berry goes away so using another berry increases the chances of catching it again.
it already did the run animation before so i knew it was going to run away as soon as i got the chance. one the run animation executes you have to run away immediately or risk breaking your combo. however, oftentimes I will attempt one more throw knowing that i'm risking my combo because if that throw is not successful then the pokemon will run nearly instantly after it breaks out of the ball. in that case you need to be literally spamming the B button to run away and I've actually run away while the pokemon was running and managed to get away successfully but there are a lot of times I didn't get away too. anyway it's a very risky move and i had to play thousands of hours on my game to understand this behavior fully.
No it wouldn't. Running away is ideal in situations where the Pokémon might run and break your combo so it's fine but the next spawn won't have the boosted odds.
it's not uncommon to find something other than what you are targeting. shiny hunters call that a "phase" and you are at "phase 1" when you get the first unwanted shiny, phase 2 on the next unwanted. all the way until you get your target.
Yeah that's your best bet. There's only a few pokemon I wouldn't recommend that for but for the most part it's always the best way if you can spend the time getting a combo going. You'll have the best odds possible that way
Kinda make sense. I mean, all the shiny I got from Let's Go Eevee was because I kept on catching and kept going up with my catch combo. My Nidoran, I went up to catch a combo of 124 until I finally got one. My psyduck was a catch combo of 223 until I finally got one. Plus, it is more funnier that way. Instead of just standing there waiting for the shiny to show.
All the ones I got were from getting 31 combo then just checking the rest from there. So I really didn't believe this at all when I first heard about it. But then I did my research and found out it's accurate which I could hardly believe. I had to change my whole mindset about how shiny hunting in the game works. That's why I made this video too because it's just like a mind bender for those of us that played since launch in 2018.
you misunderstand my meaning. rare spawn refers to the spawn that occurs at 11 combo in every area of the game. this spawn will vary, but in 90% of the routes it is Chansey. this is a hidden game mechanic but easily provable. just get 11 combo on anything then go wander around and 1 chansey will spawn just about everywhere you go. however porygon spawns in one area, snorlax is down in cerulean cave, lapras spawns in the water, etc.
Does the catch combo odds disappear when you leave the area? Or every time the Pokémon you’re trying to get spawns? I’m thinking of combining the door method with the catch combo method
Door method won't work. Your combo doesn't change but the only spawn that gets the bonus is the next one that spawns after your last catch. There's no way to know if using the door messes with that logic and in addition to that you only get one spawn with the best odds after a successful combo catch so resetting with the door would still only result in one spawn with good odds (so we think but again now way to know if the door cancels that) and the rest of the spawns would just have the same odds as if you had no combo at all. The only one spawn that had the boosted odds is the next one that spawns after successful combo catch so you're just hunting one at a time no matter what you do. Just keep catching it will be faster.
after 31+ catches you’re at the max shiny rate and the chances dont increase beyond that but you have to keep catching the same pokemon till the shiny spawns which can sometimes be 100+ till it does
@@JonnoPlays caught it shortly after this. Got lucky with some at about 170. Have lures. No charm yet. Decided I wouldn't progress through the game without catching shinies lol

I hunted eevee for 4 hours straight
Going in and out of the door is your problem. There's no need to do that if you are doing combo. Keep catching them one at a time. Or do the door. But don't do both that's wasting time.
Nice info man thanks for the update on the odds and stuff. I wouldn't say lied to, more of the data miners misinterpreted everything tho lol
Imagine telling the whole world wrong information and they believed you for years..... LIES 🤥
Would running away from the Pokémon still count as caught for the next Pokémon to appear with higher odds?
No it wouldn't. Running away is ideal in situations where the Pokémon might run and break your combo so it's fine but the next spawn won't have the boosted odds.
@@JonnoPlays Alright! Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it.
So basically you can stay at a catch combo of 1 if you. Want to have the 1 in 1024 odds?
I waa chaining Graveler in rock tunnel, and a shiny charmander appeared?
it's not uncommon to find something other than what you are targeting. shiny hunters call that a "phase" and you are at "phase 1" when you get the first unwanted shiny, phase 2 on the next unwanted. all the way until you get your target.
I haven't played this game in a long time. those let's go streams are very nostalgic!!!
Same here! I want to do a shiny hunt in this game sometime soon. I wish I had a second console for it
I did over 113 catch combos for Diglett *without the shiny charm* and got nothing.
Yeah, so, what are you saying with this?
113 isn't a large combo. not sure if you thought that would impress people. try getting to 500 and then let's talk.
I dod not known this but i still just kept catching Pokémon off the same species
Yeah that's your best bet. There's only a few pokemon I wouldn't recommend that for but for the most part it's always the best way if you can spend the time getting a combo going. You'll have the best odds possible that way
Good to know this, im still looking for some shiny pokemon in this game.
Happy to help.
I got a 5 catch combo and caught a shiny eevee but a 156 catch combo to catch nidoran male.
Just goes to show its truly random.
I don’t believe the odds…😂 I’ve been hunting a weedle for the last two days and still no luck…. ☠️
Weedle should be easy to find in viridian forest. Keep you eyes peeled because it is easy to miss in the grass.
Currently trying to find a shiny eevee in my 302nd catch combo found shinnies of the other Pokémon but eevee
Stick with it the game can take a while sometimes.
Did he say Chansey was a rare spawn bro I just got one today on Pokémon let’s go pikachu
you misunderstand my meaning. rare spawn refers to the spawn that occurs at 11 combo in every area of the game. this spawn will vary, but in 90% of the routes it is Chansey. this is a hidden game mechanic but easily provable. just get 11 combo on anything then go wander around and 1 chansey will spawn just about everywhere you go. however porygon spawns in one area, snorlax is down in cerulean cave, lapras spawns in the water, etc.
Shiny luck
🍀 ✨
Good video but honestly feel like it’s too stretched out, imo this could be explained in 3-4 minutes if you were more concise.
Go make your own video fam. Nobody stopping you 🤡
Lol 😂
@@JonnoPlayslol yea nobody stopping her😂
Yeah I got almost 2 consecutive shiny magikarp by doing continue catch combo
Almost?
Bro over 65 is not a high combo I got 1194 took me like 12 hours
Pretty sure that combo maxes out at 999 sooooooo.... 🤷♂️
It dose but I was keeping track through the amount of them I caught In total in the Dex also this was not ment as hate I love your vids
Just making sure I understand so if I ever get a catch combo of 100 Magikarp I would have better chances
after 31+ catches you’re at the max shiny rate and the chances dont increase beyond that but you have to keep catching the same pokemon till the shiny spawns which can sometimes be 100+ till it does
If you're hunting magikarp yes.
1306 ekans combo and no shiny just to test it out, my luck is super garbo
That's intensely bad luck. You do have shiny charm and lure enabled right?
@@JonnoPlays yessir
i finally got it 1489 ekans!
well not like some people announced that already in february 2022 and the video is from july and it got recommended to me in september xD
Some people still don't know though. I gotta let my people know.
not me out here on catch combo 240+ again with no shiny rip
Sadly that can happen though it's rare. Shiny charm and lure helps.
@@JonnoPlays caught it shortly after this. Got lucky with some at about 170. Have lures. No charm yet. Decided I wouldn't progress through the game without catching shinies lol
One of the best TH-camrs
Thanks fam
Shock Azure 😱 shock Jonno
LIES! LIES! LIES! 🤥
I ended up getting a shiny pikachu while hunting a weedle with a combo of 67😅 still a shiny
That's a good one congrats! 🎊 🎉
Thanks for letting us know
It needed to be said.
I got 3 porygons 😩
Transfer to another game?? 🤔
@@JonnoPlays
I just got a Shiny Kadabra but can't evolve last pokemon of the dex.
I'm glad I never decided to hunt in this game until like two days ago 😅
Lol it's a fun game to shiny hunt in for sure
