  • Here's an overview of a small project I've been working on over the past few weeks. I wanted to incorporate sound clips from real defect detectors into my own project, some of the audio clips came from defectdetector.net/ which is a great resource for learning about defect detectors in general. I also included a brief layout tour at the end, it's still a work in progress but I'm looking to model after Indiana in the late 90s. Maybe I'll do some more layout videos like this in the future

Any chance you could share the sketch?

This week I'll be rewiring/improving the circuit board I created a while ago, I'll make a followup video with the full installation and sketch + wiring diagram very soon

Well where did you come from? Suddenly a single video about your model railroad about using Arduino supplied controls combined with a NCE DCC System. It sure looks like you are headed to fully automating it's operation. Great first video just Outstanding!!! Are you considering using JMRI software? I've started a system where I intend on fully automating a DCC-EX Command Station starting with JRMI's Decoder Pro and Panel Pro so I can begin to operate my layout. I would love to know your background and possibly compare notes. Once again, That's a Great Start...

Cool! If you’d be interested there is a video of a Harmon Model 75 doing its vocabulary speech test on my channel, if you wanted to put another detector style into this setup, feel free to use it!

Just checked it out - great stuff, I appreciate the offer. This week I'll be rewiring the board I made, if I'm up to the task I'll think about adding those audio files too

Thanks, I’ll probably have everything available in a future video when the project is finished and installed. I think it’s a great way to learn about arduino and I’m hoping others will find it fun too. Stay tuned!

I am very interested in this project. I wonder if you could use an ESP32 instead of an arduino.

Interesting, I’m not familiar with it enough but I’m sure it’s possible - maybe I’ll try it in the future
