It's not that simple: It doesn't provide guidance on whether to not harm others out of duty (most people today) or out of the recognition of how it's self-harming (egoists).
I agree, but unfortunately people can get emotionally traumatized by improper upbringing, through no fault of their own and this can affect every decision they make. No one starts out in life stating "I'm going to perform back breaking labor to earn my living for 30 or 40 yrs". It's something that starts out from necessity and becomes a lifetime of drudgery and regret.
Isn't living as human the purpose of life in objectivism? If the essence of human is reason and reason is concept formation, identification and reasoning based on perception to self-direct (ecological definition), THEN, living as human means, living rationally, that is, a life constituted by the use of reason.
A human being's essence, or soul, is comprised of their chosen values. An individual's value hierarchy will make up their essence. Reason is the unique human faculty that integrates percepts into concepts.
@@tennoio1392 But what about someone in their 30s still living off their parents? They’re alive, they have the value of life, and therefore, by your description, they have the purpose of life. I believe rationality is both the means to achieve values and an essential component of the ultimate purpose: human life. However, the 30-something living in their mom’s basement may possess biological life, but not human life in its fullest sense. This is because they aren’t exercising reason or fully engaging with reality to their capacity.
@periteu oh, I see. If you're talking about the definition of a human, then yes, you're correct. But if we're talking about purpose then we're talking about chosen values that will change from individual to individual. With rationality being their means of attaining said values and achieving happiness. Happiness and life meaning pretty much the same thing as far as I understand it, in objectivism.
Well that's all I needed to hear!! 😂😂😂 Who do you possibly think you can sway with such a ridiculous comment? You basically said nothing. Show us one instance that identifies Onkar as what you're claiming he is.
It's so simple. Seek happiness without harming others.

*Pure wisdom.*
A down to earth explanation well done.
Amazing audio quality on this one
Brilliantly simple
Very high quality audio considering it was recorded 45 years ago!
The purpose of my life is to have a comfortable life, without harming others, then get off this planet clean and quietly without fuss or pain.

Is that all you have to show for 7 and a half million years work?
Fun fact, that's also what you get when you multiply 6 by 9.

Life is the goal, rationality - means to achieve it~

@@johngleue By essence, I mean what defines a human as human-what sets us apart from other animals. That essence is reason.

I just want to make it clear that Onkar Ghate shuold be thrown out of the Institute. He is a collectivist traitor, as are his associates!
If you are a board member, I suppose you have a chance of making that happen. But what did he do to warrant such action?
Well that's all I needed to hear!! 😂😂😂
