    Very clear explanation. I’ll be trying to adjust mine today. Thank you.

    Excellent. Top drawer. Spot on! Wonderful to see someone who works hands-on and knows what they are talking about. There are a dearth of you folks on TH-cam:) My EQ-G thanks you. I suspected the problem, you confirmed. Weird they come out of factory with sloppy gear adjust, eh? Thanks from Florida USA.

      The mounts are mass produced at the Synta factory. Thanks for the comment.

      You are kind. Yes, so I have read about Synta. Also learned Synta had acquired Celestron awhile back. Did not know that. One big happy family. I do like the mount. I now have it and a Celestron AVX. Naturally, I will be comparing them:) AVX is darn good. EQ-G seems beefier and a bit more solid. We'll see. Cheers.

    I found it weird that once if I get rid of the backlash in the wormdrive, my gears get really hard and tight to be turned (though it's still movable and won't get binned, I did the tests), is that normal?

      plus, my gears make a clucking sound, and the PHD2 guiding graph is looking mad... really worried about it :(

    I just got my HEQ5, and I absolutely love fiddling with shit, but I think I'll leave mine off for a while until I get to know the mount, and then when I adjust it I'll appreciate the difference a bit better..

      Glad you get to enjoy it. I moved away so I ended up selling mine.
      Not all mounts come out the factory with that grinding noise. But of you hear it and it bothers you, this adjustment is the fastest and cheapest way to rectify it. Upgrading to a belt kit is all fine and dandy but I got great results with this. I also did a complete rebuild of my mount but the amount of time I put in didn't warrant the results I got. Yes I could balance faster, yes it turned smoother and yes I had another small increase in tracking quality but it took a lot of time.

      @@thespyk Yea, I live in Ireland, and we have a lot of cloudy nights here, so I'll probably end up spending a lot more time messing with the internals than actually using the mount!
      But mine is dead silent unless it's slewing at a high speed, a lot of the time when I was testing it I thought it wasn't working, until I realise that it's moving slowly and quietly!

      Interesting, I just moved to Ireland myself. Cork 😂

      @@thespyk Oh really? I live in Cork too, Clonakilty! You know what I mean about the constant clouds so then..
      I got the 10" Dob out for a while alright last night, but I'm waiting on a camera to arrive before I can start astrophotography.

      @@JoeBob79569 yeah I've been contending with the clouds. They come over suddenly here. I'm in Wilton in Cork City. You can use a DSLR for AP. That was my main imaging setup. I'm taking a trip back to RSA in March and will hopefully have enough space to bring my ED80 to Ireland with me.

    seems like a lot of people have trouble with this mount my question is if you know the mount has problems why do people buy it? pay 1150.00 and then have all the problems i dont understand would a better mount be the answer.

    • @thespyk
      @thespyk  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Budget. We can't necessarily afford a more expensive mount

    Thanks, but I don't think close up the gear together will be the tracking good , the blacklash is in worm gear !! You should adjust it

    • @thespyk
      @thespyk  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have done so. Please see my HEQ5 Rebuild video. Believe it or not, these gears do cause backlash. It was one of the first things I did when I got the mount.

    Awesome video! How about on a Orion EQ-G same as NEQ6

    • @thespyk
      @thespyk  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It should be a similar process. The EQ6/NEQ6 are very similar in design to the HEQ5. I actually think they all come out of the same Synta factory.

    Wow, looks like a meat grinder to me. And they sell it for $1000? Nice, the Chinese guys likely have at least 300% margin on this.

    • @thespyk
      @thespyk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the older model of the HEQ5. I haven't seen the insides of the NEQ yet but I suspect they look the same.
