Near the end, Mark used a whale to destroy an empty boat. This is incorrect: whales and serpents only destroy boats that have passengers; empty boats are ignored and remain on the board. Also, it looked like a swimmer or two moved multiple spaces in a single turn. A swimmer can only move one space per turn (but players still get three moves total, so, e.g., you could move three different swimmers one space each).

+foglight11 I actually bought this for my parents last Christmas and finally got them to play it this year. They loved it! I think I would include this in our list of board games to introduce friends to board gaming.

Good pointers at the end with the 1+2 on boat forced coop vs. screwing people over other places on the map. Remembering the pieces value is the absolute key.
There are some differences that I spotted, when compared to the 1982 version i played as a kid: * It had dolphins that can take your swimmers to safety similar to boats, 1 dolphin/swimmer though. * The whale is a great octuopus. * There is no dice to roll when moving monsters but a roulette-like disk with a little bead that directs if you can move a sea monster/shark/octupus (15 in 24 or 5 for each creature or 62,5% chance) or a dolphin (9 in 24 or 37,5%) and they could also move either 1, 2 or 3 steps or D - Dive, move to anywhere (empty I think...?) There are more differences, but I either can't remember the rules, didn't spot, or CBA writing down ;) .

I don't own the game, so I could be mistaken, but I was thinking from a review video I had seen, that the island tiles had to be taken from the outside in. In other words, I think the island is essentially supposed to erode away, & not implode.

But you are mistaken sir, here is a quote directly from our rule book:"You must respect two conditions when you remove a Terrain tile.First, you must choose a tile adjacent to at least one sea space (even if it’s a space which previously had a Terrain tile). Second, all of the Beach tiles must be removed first, followed by the Forest tiles, and finally the Mountain tiles - this is to represent the Terrain being closer to the sea sinking first. If a Beach tile is completely surrounded by Forest and/or Mountain tiles, remove it as the last Beach tile (even if it not adjacent to a sea space). It says on page 4 in the instructions that the Sea Serpents, Sharks and Whales have no effect on each other. They can occupy the same sea space. This is written right under the Using a Die Result.
My 7 year old son really wants to see a play through of this game before deciding whether to buy it with his birthday money. Thanks for the swearing- will try to find one elsewhere on TH-cam that I don't have to hit mute on.

You cannot go onto a ship from sea as a swimmer from an adjacent sea space is what is written. Underneath that it says you can go onto a ship as a swimmer from the same sea space. So you must be on the same sea space as the ship, then it is allowed.

I got this board game in like 1982 or something and it has been my favourite game ever since. SO angry :) SO amazing!

Used to play this game with my family and friends when I was a kid. This was a nice dose of nostalgia.

Fun game for all ages and yeah even people who don't like or play board games. The expansions are fun too and reasonably priced imho.

Unfortunately you cannot go from Sea to ship.. (3rd bullet under “Explorers on Sea (Swimmers)”.
