PAT ABOLD 1ST NAME ON T-SHIRT,RACED AT OSWEGO SPEEDWAY,CHAMPION 1992,WATCHED HIM RACE A LOT,AND WIN A LOT.SPEAKING OF OFFSETTING ,THE ENGINE IN THE SUPERMODIFIED IS OFFSET,I THINK IT WAS JIMMY SHAMPINE WHO STARTED THAT FOR THE SUPERS,SHAMPINE WAS ANOTHER GREAT ONE I GOT TO SEE RACE,HE IS REVERED AT OSWEGO.ROB HOFFMAN IS SUCH A GRACIOUS ,KIND,WITH A TROVE OF RACING HISTORY,THANKS FOR INTERVIEWING HIM,AND BRINGING THE STORY TO US.
I loved the Ascot picture on the wall of his shop. Such great memories of an awesome family. The first midget I drove was a Curtis with a flat head 6 Studebaker that came from Indianapolis in 1968 when I was 16, I will never forget the first Offy I drove in 1969, my senior year of high school. Thanks for the memories Don
Didn't realize you raced an Offy; that's incredible. There is just something special about a Kurtis Kraft open-wheel car with an Offy...some of the prettiest race cars ever built. Thanks again, Greg...HMM
Very good job!!! I also liked the Tim Richmond shirt!!! Tim could really wheel a car no matter what is was!!! If Tim would not have died Earnhardt would not have been a 7 time Winston Cup Champion. Please do a Tim Richmond story!!!
You know...that's a good idea about a Tim Richmond story. I know he was from Ashland, Ohio I believe, which is not far from me. Thanks for the idea...HMM
The trouble with your site Mr.Hoffman is I forget what I was supposed to be doing the minute I start watching. Just great stories that jog my 81 year old brain.
That v6 car had to be the car when Rich and Rob were on the Hidden Hero’s show. You can still watch that on Utube if I didn’t wear it out! I’m not sure how your ever gonna top this story!
thats quite a collection in just the cars and engines, but they used HANDBREAKS BACK IN THE DAY thats crazy with that much speed no footbreak I thought in the pictures of the drivers reaching outside the cockpit with the lever was for shifting gears, that was the brake thats crazy and putting a car backtogather after that wicked flip in a week that cut it into shows what they were made of back in the day but yea hes lucky to walk away from that one to race again.
I was a little kid running around in the infield that day, so I didn't actually see the crash, but I was there and saw the aftermath. It'd be neat to see those pics your dad took. Thanks Tom...HMM
Rob may well have been the youngest crew chief in the actual 500 at 20 but when Todd Gibson (who is listed as a Hoffman driver on their shirt) tried to qualify for the 500, his son Gene Lee Gibson was his crew chief and was 17. They did not make the race however.
THERE'S ANOTHER DRIVER THAT I WATCHED RACE AT OSWEGO,TODD GIBSON,00 FLINTSTONE FLYER,AND GENE LEE LATER ON RACED AT OSWEGO,WITH BENTLEY WARREN,BUCKY BUCHOLZ,WOW HISTORY MAN,SUCH A SMALL WORLD WE LIVE IN,
that is so cool

Andy Linden set a record in 1951 or '52 at sharonville, I remember the time was 12:44.
Wow...were you there? Thanks...HMM
