    Paul, takes all kinds out there evidently. I am a beekeeper in my 7th yr of keeping bees, and have moved up to around 40 beehives. I teach classes and try to give advice to people on forums on Facebook. We have a guy that is just started his second year of beekeeping who is trolling the sites telling everyone they’re doing things wrong and telling people like me that I have no idea what I’m doing. everyone gets their number pretty quickly and basically ignores them because it’s a waste of your time and breath. The rest of us know what you’re doing and why are you the thing to do. Thank you again putting your knowledge and experience up on Facebook to help the rest of us amateurs.

    Well, considering all the problems it has had it would be no surprise if there was something badly bodged mechanically. Anyway, you found lots of things, some of which were really obscure, and you've sorted them so well done.

    You're heading for 10k subs so there would be something wrong if you didn't attract the attention of a few windup merchants and "you shouldn't do it like that" experts. If they want to parade their ignorance and stupidity in public that's their problem. The rest of us, the vast majority, enjoy what you do and appreciate the time you take to educate and entertain us. i used to own a Lightning Clubman, had a bad habit of eating the timing side main bearing bush, the bike felt and sounded like the whole bottom end was going to fly apart, the bush used to work its way out and get eaten by the timing gears. stripped the engine rebuilt with all new bushes, bearings and shells, couple of thousand miles it happened again

  • @brockett

    The battle cry of the armchair know-it-all, "YOUR DOING IT WRONG". As you are well on the way to 10k subscribers you must be doing something right. I am an idiot and not a mechanic but was once at a junior drag-strip event when a friend of a friend's newly built lawnmower engine would not start. After a good look and a long think I began to realise the ignition was 180 degrees out due to the ignition side crankshaft being incorrectly fitted to the flywheel. Lesson learned was that, "new" and "rebuilt" doesn't always mean "right".

    May be a stupid question but I presume the engine mounts including the head steady aren’t loose. My Goldie vibrates like a b*stard when the head steady comes loose. First time it happened I thought I’d run the main bearings!

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  ปีที่แล้ว

      Funnily enough, when I checked, the bolt from the head steady to the frame was missing, so I replaced that and tightened some engine / frame nuts and tried again, but it was just as bad, so no video footage showing it fixed sadly.

  • @mc2594
    @mc2594 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm wondering if by 'jack hammer' it's _pinking_ or has _pre-ignition_ maybe needs a lead additive, richer mixture or is too far advanced, You ran the Bike as a 'result' but under load the problem shows, that says it's probably not mechanical, at least to me it does.

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  ปีที่แล้ว

      The timing is spot on and I would expect the carburation is, too - my money is on something mechanical.

    • @mc2594
      @mc2594 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@paulhenshaw4514 - I only based my thoughts on the fact that at the end of video 3. everything sounded fine but going through the ride footage again I guess it's also possible for a mechanical engine fault to only become apparent under load. Fuel would be ok presuming the Lightning head has hardened seats put in for unleaded but sometimes a lead additive or sacrificial element is used instead.

    • @paulhenshaw4514
      @paulhenshaw4514  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never, to this day had any issues with unleaded petrol and standard valve seats, without additives, but in any case, this example of 'clatter' actually feels unpleasant and harsh - it can even be felt through the handlebars and I fear something may be about to make a bid for freedom!

      @@paulhenshaw4514 My mate used to take me to play rugby on his 650 Lightning. We would do wall of death stuff through the Blackwall tunnel. One day, we were coming down a steep hill on the M2 and the bike vibrated so much, the rear peg fell off. I was wearing fashionable Brutus loon jeans, which quickly ballooned up, putting lots of pressure on the other peg. Which promptly fell off. Terrifying stuff!
