Zack, brilliant TV. I'll be looking forward to the TV session where you can announce that Pocket Wizards (TT1 & TT5) supports Canon's in-camera flash control menus (e.g. adjustment of power between groups). BR Michael
It's about time something like this came out. I have a sugestio for future episodes, can you show all the features of the multimax it is easter to understand how they work if we can see them in action, the manual is hard to understand I'm a more visual type of person I hope you will consider my request. Ronnie
Ok, like the other comments, i am liking this series... i have been struggling to get consistant results with my MiniTT1 & 3 FlexTT5.. hoping the videos cover useage.. Thanks Zack
@surferjc and i should add ive been in touch with customer support and they never have any answers for why the system doesnt work as it should. One thing which really angers me is when they work, produce images, then suddenly for no reason black lines start invading the shot.... and when the mini tt1 is on camera the attached flash (580 exII) sync speed drops- it wont even produce a clean shot at 1/125 let alone 1/250th. New firmware (out summer 2010) still not fixed my probs.
can you do an in-depth demo / tutorial on the PocketWizard MultiMAX / showing how to use all of its functions in detail ? Or does anyone know where i can find something like this?
i agree with a few comments below- i've had 1 mini tt2 & 2 flex tt5 since january 2010 & find them totally unreliable ie it is very rare that they will work in what could be called "professional" conditions where you need them to work at least 90% of the time(preferably EVERY time). They stop working sometimes mid shoot when they have been working. I also have the Bowens gemini flash card and find this 2 be the LEAST reliable. I want more tests performing by PW. Im on Canon 7d & latest firmware.
Helllo. Are MultiMax compattible with Plus II ? I understand channels are the same, so if i set them to channel 1, my multimax will trigger PLus II units set on channel 1, but on what group ? MultiMax sees Plus II units on Group A ?
In a nutshell, yes they are compatible. You can learn more about channels here: wiki.pocketwizard.com/index.php?title=Channels Need to contact us further? Send an email to info@pocketwizard.com
Hello - thank you for your answer but, you really havent answered my question. I was on a job, a have 5 multimax and a guy here had 4 plus IIs. You dont answer a potential client to your new sistem by giving vague answers, in a nutshell, or by referring him to somewere else. You give a straight answer, one that is complete and solves the problem. In a nutshell the cleaning lady that works here knows pw a re intercompatible with each other having heard over the years conversations betwiinn me and other photographers because i also lend people lots of lenses. And if you dont know the answer why are you the one answering ? What i find out by trial and errot because your answer did NOT provide any usefull info at all !!! was that they work only on the first channels but those dont provide grouping so if i buy these 4 plus II and use together with multimax they are reduced to plus II functionality. I hoped i can use plus II on group A and still have other multimax on groups B, C and D. but that would have worked only on channels 17-32 which plus II dont work on. I hoped you can give me a solution to this but no, you did NOT ! what i find is i can use a second multi max conected to the 1st one in the camera port and have that on L button, so i can on-off the flashes that are triggered by the plus IIs. But why do i need to find this out muself and i have zero practical advice from you guys ? PW does not have today 10% of the market position it had back in the day and I can see why people say on forums pw, while undoubtely an icon, is just like typewritter, an icon of the past. Next situation i encounter: i use 2 flashes per stand and one multimax as receiver, with one flash connected to the flash port and the other to the camera port. Do i risk something here ? Also i expected from you to warn me about those Fcc and Ce markings on the side, because i learned the hard way they are not compatible. Can you send me some kind of firmware so that i can flash the plus II so i can use them on channel 17 and have them permanently pre-assigned to groups A, B, C and D ? thank you for the 2 lines dropped while polishing your nails with that Oh, i just cant be bothered attitude" and i really expect complete answers that can help in practice. All the best !
The correct place for an in-depth and timely technical discussion is with us directly via info@pocketwizard.com. The link above contains the following words which answer your question (and potentially others): "Standard Channels 1 through 16 are considered Classic or Legacy Channels and are the most basic PocketWizard Channels. They are used for simple triggering scenarios, and contain no zones, power control, or TTL functions." The key words in there are "no zones." That link also contains detailed information and further links about CE versus FCC radios. Yes, you can connect 2 flashes to one MultiMAX as you describe. The MultiMAX manual has no prohibitions against it, and mentions that functionality in the Delay section. No, we cannot reprogram your Plus II radios to specific channels and zones. Sorry! Consider a Plus III. I'm sorry this support experience did not meet your expectations. I highly recommend you use info@pocketwizard.com in the future. The comments section of a 6 year old video is not usually considered a place to get active support.
Thank you. i stronglu believe that this is exactly the place if you guys wanna regain the position and market share you once had, because my first question was at point and simple and needed a simple straight answer and NOT a "go check further reference"answer. It is just my bad habbit of giving people which fail at first too much credit that transformed that simple question into a in depth, timely and technical discussion ...

This young rambles like this is a home video. I prefer this type of info delivered direct and like a spread sheet. Tell me what each can do and their relationship to each other. Compare specs. Episode 1 did nothing for me.
Cool to see the old stuff. Great vids. Keep em coming.

Be good to see them in use with manual flashes that don't have pocket wizard incorporated in the flash.
