I have been enthralled with Mike Oldfield’s music for over 40 years now, there are some great videos on TH-cam Tube…my favorites are with Anita Hegerland…sadly, Spotify is missing a lot of his music, including this album.

This is the first MO album I ever heard, and for years it was the only one. I was like 8yo and my mum used to listen to it, and then I borrowed the tape from her and played it on our tape recorder over and over again. The Wind Chimes part I and II was like an adventure journey for me, I used to visualize whole action adventures in some fantasy lands just based on listening to the music. After over 30 years, it still brings vivid childhood memories. The good ones. Cheers.

A pity that Mike Oldfield isn't getting credits for his music, the different styles, mixing western music with Asian influences. Too underrated unfortunately.

Très timide, je rêvais et inventais des chorégraphies dans ma tête, faute d'oser me produire sur scène lors du spectacle semi-professionnel de mon collège (Part I et II). Et je m'aperçois que je me souviens de tout : les changements de rythmes, effets, explosions et parties plus douces. Waouh, ça fait du bien ! Passionnée par l'anglais, j'avais aussi retenu toutes les paroles par cœur des autres morceaux chantés. 36 ans dans la figure, mais que ça fait du bien de s'échapper à nouveau sur cet album de MO. i got the lord of the rings books and this cd as my xmas presents back in the early 90s... listenign non stop to this cd while readon lotr this album is forever fused with lotr in my mind

Cuando era adolescente la música de mike me gustaba tanto que pensaba que tenía una especie de enfermedad, ahora que existe Internet veo que no era el único.
A todos aquellos que denostan a Mike por "degenerar" en calidad musical, que echen un vistazo a su talento derrochado desde su juventud temprana. Debemos mucho a este genoo. Ha cumplido con creces y se merece estar considerado entre los más altos de la música.
No haga caso a eso, los músicos con los años no se degeneran, les pasa como el buen vino, mejores todavía. Yo comparto esa magia de su música, y es lo emocionante. Muchas gracias por compartirlo . Traveled back to my youth. The first time I heard this album I was 17. It was back in 1988. Once I pushed play this album on tape and plugged my earphones there was no end of dreaming.
Some of these songs have not aged well at all, but I agree. Even a weak album from MO is still worth checking out. The vocals on this one, though... ugh. Why bring in professionals to sing bad vocals when you could have done that yourself?? #bringbacktheklingon
@@s1d299 -- this is certainly one of his weakest albums (and I have most of them). I love Mike's instrumental pieces, but many of his songs aren't great, and this album's full of them! Rarely listen to this, and now I remember why!!

Why is this album so rare! I can't find it on any website on vinyl for anything under $100.00, and even on CD It's hard to find, plus it's not on Spotify or any of those apps.
@@ivdragoslav Amarok is my absolute favorite album of Mike. To me even my favorite composition of all the music ever made. But when i said 'my favorite of all Mike's regular works, i meant the 'ordiinary popmusic' he did in the eighties, like Crisis, Discovery and Earth Moving. But Amarok..., o my, that's the real thing!

@@ivdragoslav Hm, interesting approach. I too love both sides of the album, but the way i listen(ed) to the instrumtal part, The Wind chimes, i always experienced it as a more smooth composition, while Amarok is a bomb-blasting trip.
19:39 best part . You can feel the minor of the notes..nostalgic but smoothly pleasant. Strong simple drums Epic bass line . even at 20:12 as well. This part is, for me, the beauty of life . 20:43 also well. Infinity genius of music. What a trip in our emotions and memories. Very sentimental.
Its short, but if you're looking for more, Oldfield often repurposes earlier themes in later recordings. Actually this one feels to me a lot like one of many re-incarnations of the famous riff (or an echo at least) in the last ten minutes or so of Tubular Bells Part 1 (and the same idea was later re-used electronically in Tubular Bells II "The Bell", and sort-of again in Tubular Bells III "Secrets"). "Musica Universalis" in Music of The Spheres also has an unmistakable echo of this, and I seem to recall there are further short "echos" of it in some of his other long pieces, Wind Chimes here being one example.
This is very far from Oldfield's best album, but it was one of the first I heard as a child, so it holds a special place in my heart. And even a mediocre Oldfield album is way better than most other artist's best.

This is very far from Oldfield's best album, but it was one of the first I heard as a child, so it holds a special place in my heart. And even a mediocre Oldfield album is way better than most other artist's best.
Did´nt know it until now. Of course bought it immediateliy...
