  • Government forces in Mozambique are fighting to regain control of a remote area in the north.
    Soldiers are trying to push back ISIL-linked fighters in Cabo Delgado province, a resource-rich region.
    The fighters have taken control of the port of Mocimboa da Praia near offshore gas projects.
    Over the past three years, monitoring groups say more than 1,500 people have been killed.
    Will other countries need to intervene to stem the violence?

    I am a mozambican and the problem of Cabo Delgado CANNOT be the one of regional assymetries. For starters the neighouboring province of Niassa, is way poorer than what Cabo Delagado is. It is a province that hasn't significant mineral resources (which are a good source of income to local people), is away from the ocean (therefore people cannot practice fishing except the ones that live around Lake Niassa) and it has little to no development. In contrast, Cabo Delgado is a thriving province that has mineral as well as energetic resources in abundance, it has a proper land for agriculture, it is a coastal province among other things.
    Aside from Niassa, there are provinces that are even more poor than Cabo Delgado which is the case of the Province of Gaza located on the southern part of Mozambique.
    The main problem in Cabo Delgado must be the one that every subsharan country that discovered huge reserves of energetic resources faced. War profiteering. People are trying to make a profit out of war. Simple as that. This is business as usual.

    • @osvaldodanett8674
      @osvaldodanett8674 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This problem is being caused by western interests (definetly france and usa). The general idea is to vandalize the country, remove the population from the local area, minimize the country benefits while the project is being developed, end up bringing a foreign security force to "protect the area" and allow uncontrolled looting of resources when the gas pumping starts. As for Mocimboa da Praia port, these oil companies need this port for their operations, thats why they want to seize with violence. People say that the terrorists want to destroy the gas project, and come up with these usual western excuses of islamic terrorism, poverty and government negligence of the youth, etc. But the true that matters is that the project project facilities are up in the north, but have never been attacked by the terrorists. The attacks occur all down south that area. The only attack occured once in a village located 7km from the gas project. But on the following day, the oil companies had on contractor clearing the area and setting foundations for their additional facilities. So, this so called terrorists are "servants" of these oil companies! Thats why you are 3 years and nobody of these "western terrorists" has come to claim their intentions or demands!!

    Such a shame, Mozambique is such a beautiful country.
    But of course, thanks to socialism, the country is dirt poor, and is going nowhere. I mean how does an army run out of ammo ffs? African countries that gain independence and cleave to socialism just go backwards. Most of Africa is in the same position, everywhere is fukked, everyone is poor, no formal employment, most live below the poverty line. It's just a vicious circle, mostly due to corrupt governments who keep the population uneducated, it's just too easy for an armed rag tag gang to cause havoc, because the armed forces are a joke, poorly trained and poorly equipped ... Let's be honest about this, and most African 'leaders' are mostly disgustingly corrupt and only there for the money and power trip, after all the 3rd world country's are pretty much all in the same poverty boat with masses of uneducated and unemployable people for this very reason, Europe and the western world aren't to blame for every woe of the 3rd world

Same case in America, the gov kill strong leaders like Malcolm X and Huey P Newton.

They are going to go after Zim and SA, then Angola. They will be able to take over Africa, they have been going from Sudan to West Africa for years and now that they were defeated in Syria, they have shifted their main efforts to Africa.
      The West had better take note and help. It is nothing to do with marginalisation. These countries have been under self rule for over 25 years, now. It is the Islamists.
