    I gave myself the Rosa Classic palette and lots of individual single pans for my birthday last year and oh do I love them. They are beautiful to paint with and so affordable. Hope you will love yours too. Happy belated birthday!

    Hello and happy birthday! (a little bit late to say) I just wanted to tell you that Rosa Gallery has become one of my favourites since I discovered them in the summer of 2020. I also like QoR watercolors but here in Europe, Rosa Gallery is much more afordable. Enjoy your paints!!!

    Now I’m intrigued! I don’t like White Nights because they feel heavy and unnatural to me for some reason, except for a few colors, browns and blacks. And I heard people comparing it with Rosa - I thought they are similar in qualities. But the ones you showed here are looking pretty luminous and light

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The romantic set is quite heavy, which is why I stuck mainly to transparent, single pigments, and they do feel pretty light! I need to start actually painting with them now! I don't have any White Nights to compare with though, sorry!

    • @weekend_art

      Thank you Helen! I think I’ll buy a few just to compare and report back :)

    • @djhadaverde
      @djhadaverde ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello! I must say that they are more transparent than White Nights and most of them flow like QoR watercolors. I think the quality of Rosa Gallery is higher. I like White Nights, don't misunderstand me, they are good paints, but I choose Rosa Gallery over them, I find them better paints. You won't be dissapointed.

    Ohhhh… I’m very interested in the single pigment Rosa gallery paints. I wonder if I could get by with 9 full pans? I think that’s how many pans one of my empty travel palettes can hold… and my local art store carries that line, so it’s gift-card purchasable!

    I just got some Rosa Gallery paints today (bought them individually). They are so bright and beautiful. I wonder if the ones labeled cad (Cadmium Lemon and Cadmium red) are true cadmium or substitutes... I think they are too cheap to be real and I hope I am right as I would rather not worry about touching and playing with them. Do you happen to know?

    • @helencryer
      @helencryer  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Had a quick look online, and Lindsay Weirich (Frugal Crafter) says they contain real Cadmiums.

      @@helencryer Thank you for getting back to me so quickly! Do you take precautions with cadmium paints? I usually avoid them (they are too expensive anyway and I don't want to deal with the health issues) but now that I have these, I wonder how to use them safely or to just put them away or give them to someone.

      I rarely ever paint with Cadmiums (mainly because I don't like their opacity much), and mainly only have a few that came as sets, so I'm not too worried about their very occasional use.
      Thanks ever so much!!

    I have a lot to say 😂. I’ll write more later, but yea, was NOT impressed with their PB60. My only other real issue with Rosa’s..they don’t list staining and I’d say 90% of them ARE staining.
    You missed 1 single pigment I think, cobalt blue. It’s listed as granulating, mine had very little granulation, but I still love it as it’s a bit less bright than their other blues..mixes into a beautiful mossy, natural green with aureline. I also got a Prussian blue from white nights that I added to the set. (The young lady who distributes here in the US carrie’s both brands). I know Chromium lists as opaque..I’m a bit confused how everyone seems to have their own interpretations of opacity..the Chromium is mostly opaque in mass tone, but as you can see, lovely transparency when diluted just a bit. To ME, a color is OPAQUE if it covers all or most of a black line in MY swatches, even when water is added..but, that’s just me. Both transparency and staining seem to be subjective…although, it seems like most people, including this blind old lady, can SEE when you try everything to lift color and a ton is still left on the paper..that it’s staining. 🤷🏼‍♀️
    Regardless, I love the chromium!
    I FINALLY got my replacement iPad..have been largely offline the past 2-3 weeks. But, that’s ok! I’m actually already having some issues with the touchscreen..but I think it’s just a matter of tinkering with the settings. This is the newer Air and most of my settings didn’t transfer
    I got some stunning handmade paints by a girl I’m working with to make some mixes with earth pigments and minerals. I got an extra-large pan of her last batch of PO49…ok, NOW I understand what all the fuss is about! 😂 She’s cut her inventory for now so she can focus on her mixes, make some more single pigment earth tones and try out some new ones
    She had collected some manganese from what was once known as the Inland sea here in the US. She also got some amethyst from the same area..fun fact: manganese gives amethyst it’s color! Anyways, her manganese grey/black actually has just a bit of natural sparkle from the crystals! I’m going to play again tonight to come up with a “starry night”-think moon glow with just a touch of sparkle..OR Black-grape with a touch of sparkle! The problem is trying not to get too much sparkle..we don’t want a heavy sheen, nor do we want glittery paint. So far, it looks like a combo of the manganese, amethyst, toned down with some purpurite.
    One last thing, you said you got those from cult pens…I wish their US Shipping wasn’t $20 😂. They seem to be the only ones with the 28 new inktense..and there’s some BEAUTIFUL new colors, including a pale pink! If I need a pale pink background now..I mix, usually the carmine pink, with the white inktense..maybe tone it down with a touch of one of the purple/violets. (I use my textured Caran D’arch palette to scribble a bit of each in a drop of water. I try different mixes every time to get a permanent background layer that I don’t have to worry about it lifting or mixing with my paints.. ) But if you haven’t seen them, go check out all the new colors!
    I’m still catching up with videos…Happy Belated Birthday!🎉

      Hi! Yes, I missed quite a few single pigments for various reasons. I agree that opacity ratings vary a lot, and are just a rough guide!
      As I'm still reasonably new to the world of watercolour, I started off just being attracted to colours without worrying about opacity, but I realised that most of what have become my favourites, are transparent, so I'm exploring more of those for now.
      I'm glad you're getting sorted with technology, and the handmade watercolours sound gorgeous!!
      I took a look online at the new Inktense as soon as they were available from Derwent's online shop, but I'm not hugely impressed - there are three I'll be buying open stock - the pink you mentioned, a turquoise, and I think one of the browns. I have the Caran D'Ache palette too!
      Happy painting!!

      Hi Elaine! Cobalt Blue does not granulate as much as other pigments, I think. I have the Schmincke Cobalt Blue and it does not seem to granulate. You only notice a separation in mixtures but that's it.

      @@awatercolourist I JUST ordered Sennelier Cobalt Blue Deep. It appears to be heavily granulating..but I’ve been wrong before (too many times to count 😂) if you or anyone who reads this has tried it, please let me know! I’m primarily getting it to mix.…and my daughter wants me to paint her antique “Panjo” and says the gentleman who sold it to her says he’d repainted the “pan” part years ago with a cobalt blue. Just to clarify, I’m making a painting of it, NOT painting the panjo. 😂

      @@awatercolourist KoZ Kourtney’s Paints! Like I said, she’s taken down quite a bit, but it’s temporary. I just ordered a few more yesterday..including her potters pink and her PB60. Her Earthtones are beautiful!
      Edit: just checked, she put most back up, it appears she was just editing to remove those she doesn’t have at the moment. She’s still listing her PO49 (she’s also got a beautiful PO48)HOWEVER, While the swatch is in the Earthones, to order, go to the drop down in the “yellows and oranges”. And yes, the price is correct. 😁. Kourtney is very generous with her paints! It does sometimes take awhile because most are made to order.
