You should be able to tell the difference between engine oil and trans oil. They dye transmission oil red, for that exact reason. It was obviously coming from the front. If it was red it would be coming from the cooler line. It isn't unusual for an engine to leak minor amounts of oil. What I saw wasn't a minor amount of oil so if it was leaking like that it isn't road worthy, let alone off road worthy. If your transmission oil is dark, and you serviced it recently and it does weird shifting things you've got other problems beside a bad oil leak.

@@michaeldose2041 the transmission fluid was was pretty dark. I am hoping we can start digging into it this weekend.

When you say trainsmission oil do you mean transfer case oil? As far I know Jeep JT and JL have sealed transmission.

@@molevich3329 No, I’m pretty sure it’s the transmission. I topped it off and it’s driving fine now.

Seems like the classic Pentastar moment, I hate to say it but those oil filter assemblys are suspect and cursed.. did you put the all metal replacement in last time? I've heard even those are hit or miss with parts quality these days. I've even picked up those oil filter assembly as trail trash so it's common unfortunately.

@@vinceimp9581 yeah, I had it replaced with an aluminum oil filter housing.
