Best question so far Bruce. This might be a long answer to a simple question, but here we go. Not sure if you have watched the whole series. The quick version is I’ve had a few issues with this grill. Turns out when I thought I was cooking at 225 I was cooking closer to 325. This is where I can say I can’t definitely answer your question. I can say it wasn’t as smoky as my barrel cooker, Weber or even my Yoder. With that being said with the temperature issues I had with this one I can’t give you a solid answer on if it was running right what the smoke flavor would have been. These ribs on this cooker was minimal. Just my experience with this cook running hotter than I thought it was. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment.
Owner of a RT-B380 here. My fans have never cycled like that on a heat or cool down. I do know (since i'm from the area where the grills are made) that the original controller had some issues and that if your grill is not functioning smoothy; the most likely culprit is that controller. RecTec support gave me a new controller for free and the instructions for replacing it can be found online or on youtube (just removing a couple of screws and unplugging the old and plugging in the new. Ribs look killer!
Just a tip with the rec tec grills. The pid controller will feed and feed to keep your desired temp. Don’t leave the lid up like traditional grilling. Good looking ribs.
Yes, do not leave the lid up. I was cooking pork shoulders at 225. And I went to wrap the shoulders in foil . I closed the lid and came in 5 minutes, the temp went from 225 to 500. I called reqteq and they told me not to leave the lid open. The grill is losing heat and dumps more pellets to raise temp.
Have had my Reqtec 380 for about a week now, that little guy holds temp like a boss! Tech specs say it can go down to 200, maybe I'll try that on my ribs. I like to soak mine in Cherry Coke overnight for my tenderness. Really great pellet grill, perfect small size too!
Just got my grill two day's ago and I'm enjoying. I'm going to do my first baby back ribs today I'm going to try just a dry rub and then I wet I'm just going to do to it see how it turns out think with the dry rub I'm going to put them in aluminum foil after a 2-hour cook and let cook for another additional 2 hours at 225 all the way and then the other one just put sauce on it and let it cook for 15 minutes and see how it works thanks for the video
The pull back on them looks really good! This Monday I’ve probably seen so many comments about how awesome rectec is, that bullseye looks pretty sweet! Good video 👍
Thanks. Me and this unit are having a love/hate relationship. They turned out pretty good for a first try on this unit. Thanks again for checking it out.
Just leave it at 225. They weren't your best cuz you turned up the heat. Those rubs have brown sugar in them and that's what caused them to burn. Can't rush ribs. 4.5/5 hrs at 225, you're good.
Most likely was temperature calibration issue. I've notice using temp probes it was around 30-40 degrees above temperature. So, I had to calibrate it accordingly.
I may be wrong here... but my understanding is that the Bullseye is a direct heat grill... you're not really playing to its strength with long slow cooks without some sort of heat deflector (hence the char on the outer edges) better to go with one of RecTeq's more traditional pellet grills for something like this that require low and slow cooks.
*a very cool setup!!* but i still prefer a charcoal BBQ! and watching it with having a few beers! haha the ribs look delicious!! I really want to get a BBQ so I can make some! I miss this type of food! hope you are well man! have a great week! :)
Those racks looked pretty good Doc, the rotation would of helped ya out👍 that being said I hit all 3 racks..lol...thanks for sharing brother, have yourself a great week, you all stay safe!👍👊🍻
They defiantly hit the spot. It's just kind of an odd set up with those holes in the deflector shield. For a first try on it they turned out pretty good for sure. What do you got? 4 days and counting?
It sound like very noisy, i prefer only sound during a BBQ are, dripping meat juices on the charcoal, birds singing and open a can of beer hi hi hi, nice review again, result looks amazing and sea salt mustard is the one for me Dr,-i Chef Richard
Smooth shaving there Doc! Those are some nice looking ribs for sure and nothing like some nice ribs!! BBQ? I say its better late than never and better never late to eat some great food like that!! :))
Those looked great! I bought a rt380 today.... just waiting for the delivery. Would it have helped you to place a drip pan with water inside to help with moisture and catch the drippings?
Man I went and picked up some ribs today from a new BBQ place by my house today and they were just smoked no seasoning no sauce 🤷♂️ Who does that man???😂 Now I’m setting here watching you cook up some nice juicy saucy ribs.. I’m so depressed lol.. great job brother those look all so good!
You definitely got an early production 380 with a defective controller. Almost everyone I know that has one has gotten new controller from Recteq. I know it’s 3 years ago but I hope you got replaced. I love owned a 380x for about a year and got the 380x deluxe black last week. Best grill/smoker in the world and I own a total of 14 (not joking).
Just curious why you disabled the comments on the tomahawk ribeye video? You should take the video down. Seems you “trashed” RecTeq with your own errors. You are the only one to have that issue, id chalk it up to carelessness. A drip pan and removing the steaks would have prevented the fire and bad review. I’ve enjoyed your videos until that one.
Dose it have smoke taste?

@@DrTasteGoodBBQ where u able to fix the temp?

It is normal for the unit to cycle when on lower temps to regulate the temperature.

Good info. TY

Wow, looks great my frnd, well done. I love the sweet baby rays. Thanks for sharing. 😃😁😎
Thank you. Always need some sweet baby Ray’s in the pantry.

How did they turn out?

Recteq sells drip pans to go under the grill to catch the drips and prevent fires.
The outcome is amazing DrTasteGood Mammal despite the grease drip.
Thanks Bob. They turned out pretty good. The drip was a bummer though.

drooling over here... those look heavenly!!
Thanks! Much appreciated. They turned out pretty darn good.
Great cook! i was wandering how it would do for the low and slow! I need to make some ribs soon again! Cheers Doc!
Thanks. They turned out pretty good for a first try on it.
Good job on those ribs with that grill. I'm going to have to look up that sauce. It sounds interesting.
Thanks Richard. It’s pretty tasty stuff.
Now ya talking. I cook a slab of baby backs every other weekend. Fantastic video. Mmmmm 🕶😎👍
Thank you. Always a good weekend when ribs are involved.

I agree with you there Richard. This sucker is loud and sounds like a rocket ship.
Wow. Good looking and delicious, my new friend.
Thank you. Much appreciated.
Dr. T what's that pellet dispenser you have? Really cool.
It’s called the Pelletcan. www.pelletcan.com/products/pelletcan

Your setup is looking as great as those ribs look!!
Thanks. They turned out pretty good for a first try on this grill. Learned a couple things.
Those looked great! I bought a rt380 today.... just waiting for the delivery.
Would it have helped you to place a drip pan with water inside to help with moisture and catch the drippings?
I would say on any slow cook a drip pan would be a great idea on the RT-B380.
Ha. That’s a new one for me.
Man, those ribs sure look good. I am starving. Haha 😄
Thanks for checking them out Mike.
I was thinking about buying one of these but man that is too loud. Also I didn’t realize it is direct heat. How would a brisket do on it?
If you do get one use a drip pan for everything. From my understanding it’s not really meant to be used as a smoker.
Great sharing.
Thanks for checking it out.
You need to center your deflector to prevent hot spots.
The top right 12-3 o'clock position on my bullseye deluxe is hotter and deflector is centered.
Look delicious.... Super👌👌
Thanks. Much appreciated.

Not a fan of yellow mustard but I use it on ribs and have never tasted it
It is pretty fascinating that you can’t taste it after cooking. I didn’t think it would be possible. Thanks for watching.
Mustard is just a binder...shouldn't taste it....gd work.
So, watching the video, TH-cam placed a "Slimming Swimwear" ad right over the video of the ribs. Hmm, trying to tell us all something?
Not knowing Michael. I don’t pick what ads go up. Thanks for the info though.
I could only imagine how much drip I'd have if I cooked burgers with thos BBQ. bummer it doesn't have drip catcher..
I agree with you 100%.
