    Jo, the whole idea of lift bridges is to help motorists understand that life is better when its slowed down. You should aim to help as many as possible :)

    I just watch your episode 001, and left a comment there... When we used to have a boat, my wife, daughter and I used to have a few weeks in the summer, taking the boat to Oslo, from Skien. All through one of our boats the first one, could do almost 30 knots, we almost never did more than 4 knots. It took us 3-4 days "cruising" one way to Oslo. These days, we are looking for a boat just like the first one we had, cause we could take that one a trailer, and have it at home when not using it!. Test testing testi... You're so funny! hahaha...

    Looked up Doncaster on Google Maps, the quick facts box gives it an interesting history and information. I was intrigued by the tall church tower, which it seems is the Minster Church of St. George. (hey the dog got his own chruch! LOL) Exhibits at the Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery include a 1914 Cheswold car. Even the market sounds rather interesting. The You Tube Narrow boaters all need to start a campaign to get Google Maps to better identify the canals, such as when you search a name, it would show the canal over its length in yellow or such to make it easy to find. Yes, 360° "canal view" would be interesting.

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve tried to talk Google into lending us one of those crazy expensive cameras and paying us to do canal-view, but so far they’ve ignored me! M

    yes its all perspective ,, through ignorance humanity learned a inquiring mind is needed to learn , So be persuasive with the lift bridges ,a subtle routine , a hat with a catch phrase just for the paused drivers , Soon all the canal boaters will have the same hat and it will be a movement , the news will cover it and everyone will know , maybe something like " Plan For a Breather lift Bridges allow a minute for a breather during the daily rushing commute

    Yep still stuck, the Trent went briefly in the yellow and I got all excited but the next day it went back in the red it's so frustrating for everyone getting stuck but at least you and Phil are still putting out cruising vlogs who had become near possible for most of the vloggers lots of reviews and maintenance vlogs. Thanks take care you three. Alan.

      @@Leonard_Smith Phil is Narrow boat Journeys, been doing this for years he is great too because like Jo and Michael he will point out the best moorings, boater facilities and shops etc which I always add to my Pearson's Guides as you never know when it could be a useful tip. These are the best two sites I reckon for that kind of information. Alan Cabin Cruiser Adventure.

      We got slowed down a bit as well... the storms kept us in place, as did quite a few river sections. Actually just made it on to and off the Trent ourselves in the VERY brief time it wasn’t in flood... too much water hath fallen on this country this year! M

    Just a thought on what seems to be the hot topic of our media, it seems to me that the requirement for self-isolation after a contact with COVID-19, or at least after arrival from a country affected by the need for self-isolation, would be an ideal time for navigating a canal. You are unlikely, other than shopping journeys, to be amongst a crowd of people and so long as you can look after yourselves for the required 14 days or so of isolation then you should be fine.
    I guess the negative aspects could be if you actuall;y came down with the virus how would you get the medical help you rquired?
    Oh well, here's hoping that your journeys keep you out of reach of this insidious disease and your days are spent happily cruising the cut - to coin a phrase.
    To get back to nicer topics, for those 5 or 6 weeks of enforced idleness, how did you keep George occupied and active as he is used to?

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We’re discovering that yeah, the boat is automatically a kind of quarantine... it’s funny being nervous going out to shops, although for me the main nervousness is that I’m gonna have to blatter someone about the head for hoarding something silly. Sigh. We’re doing fine, we’re still cruising and we’re going to keep making videos for the duration. As for George, he gets at least three walkies a day, with extensive ball throwing... though that was a wee bit harder in Doncaster, due to lack of good park nearby. M

    Another great video! Thanks we enjoyed watching it! Hope all is well there. Are you all stocked up on supplies? This C virus isn't something to take lightly. Another two days or so I will be set. I'll buy another big bag of Sadie's favorite dogfood and a couple extra boxes of treats and finish up stocking up the houses. Not sure how bad this virus is going to hit America, but I'm taking it seriously and making sure we're stocked for weeks in case the supply chain gets interrupted or fails. Hope all is well!
