@Biff Tannen it’s a crazy rabbit hole that one quick summed up version is that families grandchildren built the ufc off the wealth of their family essentially also obviously other things went into it but that’s just a very quick summary
My Sicilian Great grandparents were close friends with the Maceo's. They were great people. Yeah. He was a mafioso, but only in the outlaw sense of the word. They weren't gangsters though. He provided vices that everyday people wanted. He didn't shake others down or victimize any innocent civilians in a violent way. They also helped a lot of Sicilian businesses in the Galveston/Houston area.
The Fertitta brothers still run Galveston to this day. Tillman Fertitta owns the Rockets basketball team and many of the hotels as well as the pleasure pier. He also owns all of Landry seafood many other Texas chain restaurants
The Maceos were very kind to my mom's family. They have my gratitude and respect
The Maceos made Fertittas who they are today.
His brother Rosario was the face of the family in Galveston. It was one of the saddest things I've seen to wake and learn the the Balinese didnt survive Ike. It was the shit!
Sam was the face (the Velvet Glove) and Rosario was the enforcer (the Iron Glove).

Maceo pronounced, May-cee-o.
Also, it was the Hollywood Dinner Club, not Diner. And, as someone else mentioned, Sicily is not a city.
